  1. If they’re interested in Ohtani they better damn well know it’s gonna me a huge contract and be aggressive. None of this “we tried but he got 200 million more than we were comfortable with” crap.
  2. But I hate him 🤣
  3. Slow couple of days so thought I’d just post this. Ken basically sees the Rangers being a factor here.
  4. Whoops. My bad. Saw opening night on espn and thought it meant their Sunday night game. Thank you!
  5. Got it! Thank you.
  6. Cubs are the first Sunday night game on espn.
  7. What do I use? I want to be proficient in this before the meetings start 🤣
  8. Apparently he’s also interested in the Braves. Though, I don’t see that happening. How do I get the tweet to show up in my post?? Not the link. The actual tweet.
  9. They must feel like they have a legit shot at Ohtani if they haven’t even checked in on Soto yet. Really need to start that dialogue with San Diego though. Juan Soto is a really good option. Of course, it’s early and I’m sure no trade happens until the meetings at the earliest anyway. Still. Call him Jed!
  10. Man, I hated that guy 🤣
  11. Yeah, I tend to agree with that. I know how much Hoyer seems to prefer the shorter term deals though. But honestly, this sounds like something the dodgers would love too. They have the money and did the Bauer contract at shorter terms with a high aav.
  12. https://fansided.com/posts/mlb-rumors-growing-buzz-around-shocking-ohtani-contract-desires-01hex0hpav6y Basically Kiley McDaniel at espn reported hearing rumors of Ohtani wanting a shorter term (high aav) contract with lots of opt outs. Pretending that’s all accurate, it might give us a better chance.
  13. Agreed. Winter meetings is one of my favorite times of the year. And I don’t mean just baseball wise. It’s always better when your team is active and gets a big fish. Here’s hoping we come away with something this year!
  14. This is where I am. I suspect Jed has a number in mind both in terms of years and salary and he’s not going beyond it. Whereas I think another team will get stupid with an offer. The former is probably for the best. But I must admit I’d be throwing a stupid offer at him probably 🤣
  15. Yes, exactly. Ideally you could grab him without including PCA. My thought was just (assuming an extension were to happen) I’d do PCA for Soto if that’s what it took.
  16. I mean the free agent market for position players is pretty poor at the moment. I think Soto will go for a haul to be honest. Having said that, if you can get him for less absolutely. I’m only saying where I would tap out of the conversation and that’s at Horton.
  17. Yeah, I worded that poorly, I was speaking more in hypotheticals. Like I’d trade PCA if I knew an extension was happening type of thing.
  18. Oh no, we completely agree if it doesn’t come with an extension. There’s many prospects I’d hold out if it was just the one year. My only difference being if Soto came with an extension I’d do PCA in that deal. Still not sure that would make me move Horton. But maybe I’m wayyyy too high on Horton at this point, cause I love him.
  19. I’m sure that’s it for some people, I’ve just had concerns with how his bat would translate to an everyday starting role. And would I trade him for a year of Soto? No. Soto with an extension? Yes. And I’ll gladly drive him to the airport as well. Soto is a monster and only 25 years old. I can safely say I’d rather build a core around Juan Soto than PCA.
  20. Damn. I don’t think I could get myself to trade Horton for Soto even with an extension. I think I would do PCA though. That obp is 🤤
  21. Yeah, I’m with the group that doesn’t see this as much (if any) of a needle mover. It seems the area Ross took the most criticism was his bullpen usage. But that wasn’t a good bullpen and I don’t think any manager could have done substantially better with it. Also, while I know this move doesn’t impact payroll, the extra money spent on Counsell is coming from some portion of the baseball ops budget. Do we really want to be setting the record for managerial salaries when we have an owner willing to toss away Yu Darvish due to his salary? Just makes me nervous.
  22. Not to always be the pessimist, but what really scares me about this offseason (even more so after reading the MLBTR free agent predictions) is how little depth there is. More on the position player side. It’s almost like you hit on a big free agent like Ohtani, Yamamoto, Bellinger, etc or you go the trade route. Cause I seriously don’t want us overpaying for freaking Matt Chapman. I like Ohtani. A lot. If I could pick one piece for this offseason he’d be it. But I also don’t want to get stuck waiting for him and everything else dries up.
  23. Does Craig now make more per year than his boss?
