  1. even if the stuff he said wasn’t just blindly grasping at threads of optimism, no underlying team quality would make you comfortable with a half game lead over the brewers and the teams’ remaining schedules.
  2. Disagree. They have two months where they have played less than .600 ball. .519 in May, and .545 in September. i’m mostly thinking about the second half run differential there. this team has been playing like a .500 team for a while now.
  3. we have legitimately not been good for a very long stretch now, and too many of our star players are injured to have any real hope of making a surprise run in the playoffs. i voted for forgot how to hit for 2.5 months and the injury one.
  4. only guy on the team who hasn’t been talking to chili sherlock emoji
  5. and just one of them clinches playing beyond Sunday. I wonder if the Cubs are going to celebrate if they clinch at least a WC berth? My guess is they won't, but then again this team loves to celebrate. I'm pretty sure the Cubs clinched a playoff spot a few days before they clinched the division in 2016 and didn't celebrate, but at that point the division was a formality and worth waiting for. We are getting close to formality this year but definitely less certain. the cubs should only celebrate winning the division and if they collapse and get a wild card they should treat it like the nit and decline to participate.
  6. that’s more like it.
  7. if russell plays for the cubs again, we are all complicit if we keep following the team. they have to do the right thing here. i’m not rooting for the horsefeathering domestic violence team, and that’s what the cubs will be if they let this slide again.
  8. i am tired of this part and want to move on to the part where we can do shitty and still win
  9. NO BARSTOOL
  10. if there’s somehow an enormous loophole that allows teams to sidestep the competitive balance tax by giving players portions of companies in lieu of additional salary, bryce harper is about to be the proud co-owner of a bunch of unused never-trump stationery and like a million bison.
  11. good thing we won that one time.
  12. I was stupid and didn't want them to trade him last offseason because I figured 2017 was just an off year and he'd after more value after he rebounded. This time next year, he'll be Chris Giminez on offense and will have also developed gout or syphilis or something and will suck on defense. You weren't the only one. Posters jumped all over me when I suggested that he should be traded while he still had a decent reputation. My other suggestion was that we should have traded Schwarber when he was the second coming of Babe Ruth. Now that he's a platoon LF/DH, his value has dropped too. in fairness, everytime i give you a suggestion, you just don’t reply and then when i check the papers there are never any stories about a guy who shoved his head up his own butt
  13. And I'm sure if I did a search of the board, I probably even talked about it at the time. I just don't remember it much anymore with a memory like that i am surprised you don’t get up and go to work in the morning without any jorts on
  14. Wrong. 21 pitches is not just 21 pitches when it is spread out across multiple innings. He had to warm up and come in the game, then pitch. Then he had to sit and wait, warm up again and pitch another inning. At this point he's done. He should not come back. But Joe tried to make him sit through another long inning, then planned on having him warm up and pitch again. It was a stupid risk. They should have gone for the runs. They should not have risked their pitcher's arm by bringing him back for a third inning. That alone was reason enough to make the change, but bases loaded with 1 out is absolutely time to take him out. You can't prove how much more wacky and clever you are if you do the obvious thing. i don’t even necessarily disagree with the idea behind it, but i think it’s absolutely true that part of the appeal of letting strop bat there is because of how fun it would be and how much the team would like it if he got the run in or even got a hit. joe likes to put his players in unique situations and the players like it too. i have a lot more qualms with letting strop pitch another inning than i do with letting him take the at bat and trying to get a hit.
  15. yes he said he's resigning because he saw mean gifs about him on the internet
