  1. maybe some people want to work in coal mines full of carbon monoxide too! freakin government infringing upon our rights. Well clearly, people who work in coal mines have the same career options as nfl athletes. They make about the same salary too! there's absolutely no reason to force people to make this choice. paying people relatively large salaries doesn't change the equation at all. knowingly making people make this choice is basically evil. HEY POOR PEOPLE, WANNA GET RICH? get concussions and ruin your brain for my amusement.
  2. the smoking comparison that whoever raised on the last page is awful to the point that i don't know w We let people ruin their later years by letting them smoke too. Maybe education could be better, but shouldn't it be up to the individual if they want to trade a potentially long and healthy life for one with the fame and money that the NFL provides? The problem is that people have their post-football careers ruined by clean and dirty hits alike. That and there is a ton of gray area between what could be a clean/healthy tackle and one that would be ejection worthy. maybe some people want to work in coal mines full of carbon monoxide too! freakin government infringing upon our rights.
  3. i can't believe how willing people are to let football players ruin their later years in the name of awesome hits or whatever. hit a guy with your helmet, you're out of the game. that should be the rule. i'm sorry if it's not old-timey enough for you, but the old-timey people were wrong and we need to be right.
  4. everybody knows that once you show your midriff in public people have the right to send you pictures of their penis whenever they want
  5. you were thinking of mizzou, i make the same mistake all the time
  6. how else are you going to make room to start both colvin and fuld
  7. Aside from consistently starting Hill over Castillo, what has Quade done to make you think he isn't a good manager? i didn't care for the "castro is being dumb so we're going to pull him out of the lineup and make him watch games" bit.
  8. i said at the beginning of my post that i was born in 1985 and didn't watch baseball before 1995, so that's when i was starting. i don't care about what happened before i was aware of the game. please read my posts before making useless replies to them.
  9. i was born in 1985, my first real season as a fan was 1995. watched games and stuff before that, but didn't watch everyday and have the ups and downs. so that's your context here. IT WOULD DEFINITELY BE MORE FUN TO BE A FAN OF: yankees red sox rays white sox angels phillies braves marlins cardinals diamondbacks IT WOULD PROBABLY BE MORE FUN TO BE A FAN OF: tigers indians twins a's mets giants rockies WE ARE ABOUT THE SAME AS: rangers mariners padres dodgers astros WE HAVE IT BETTER THAN: blue jays orioles royals nats/expos reds brewers pirates
  10. i'm not saying this was the worst season of all-time or anything, but . . . which of the nine extra wins compared to 2006 was your favorite? which of the 1.5 games closer in the standings compared to 2006? which of the three pythag wins better than 2006? i mean, i guess this team was better, but it wasn't a ton better, and i don't really think it's all that unreasonable if somebody wants to say they hated this season more than that one.
  11. yeah that's a bad start. it's nice that he didn't give up any runs, i guess, but we all know that's a terrible way to evaluate a pitcher.
  12. i put doughnut in quotes because i thought i would get in trouble if i said gun
  13. the hendry bobblehead should have a "doughnut" in its mouth
  14. you don't think getting embarrassed in a major league baseball game impressed anything upon him? i can't believe this is anything beyond quade puffery. if you want to give him days off, go for it, sounds great. this is stupid.
  15. victor martinez makes less because he is way less good. his best offensive season isn't as good as dunn's career average. and he's older, and he's got catcher years on his odometer, not standing in left field years. he would need to be a ton cheaper, and even then i don't know that i like him all that much as an option. we don't appear to be on the verge of having a team that can sustain a .800 ops at first base and not care.
  16. yeah, but quade is so much of a teacher and mentor that he doesn't even care. seriously, that's what this is about right? quade is showing hendry how much he cares about young players and how good he is at teaching them how to play the game the right way. this is why the interim manager thing is just a disaster, quade clearly cares more about upping his rep in the eyes of hendry than he cares about just letting our good young players play.
  17. i hope suh celebrated that night by hooking up with several attractive young women he had never met before
  18. That's nonsense. Why can't he hit leadoff? There's even less of a sample to go on than the BS that people used to try and claim Soriano could only hit leadoff. His value is tied to his OBP and that's quite valuable at the top of the order. Wow. Somebody woke up on the wrong side of the bottle this morning. No, I just find your reasoning absurd. So why should he hit leadoff? Because he takes alot of pitches and knows how to take a walk? If that's the case, let's put Dunn in the leadoff spot when we sign him. No...wait, let's put Geo there. what the hell are you talking about fukudome and soto/dunn are not the same type at all. you adding their names to the conversation so you can make fun of the idea of leading them off is just you being ridiculous.
  19. BA OBP SLG .296 .371 .403 .314 .405 .457 . .309 .372 .413 .273 .346 .373 . .307 .380 .430 .325 .393 .475 .298 .370 .414 .326 .395 .516 .331 .396 .455 .319 .409 .465 .309 .401 .471 .309 .390 .481 .280 .394 .429 .298 .386 .466 .252 .351 .386 .200 .279 .304 Any of the above would suffice. Sandberg?? Just checked, isn't Sandberg. Who is it? gotta be grace
  20. Offer is good without any limitation. If it happens anytime in the life of this board it'll happen. what is that? i think you need more quotes, not everyone remember individual posts from four years ago
  21. or if he used steroids Fixed I was told that when guys get injured a lot it's from their bodies breaking down to steroid use. or they are able to stay healthy forever and continue playing at a high level. in conclusion, everyone ever took steroids
  22. Milton was bad in his first year here, Lee has a track record and has built up goodwill with the fans and community. There's a really big difference there. Not as bad as Lee has been this year with hardly any complaints from the media. One got torn to shred, and the other hasn't really been touched. First half of Milton's season last year and first half of Derrek's this year.. Bradley last year: .243 .379 .381 .760 Lee this year: .233 .329 .366 .695 This directly correlates to my post that Derrek's been pretty well protected by the Chicago media because he's perceived to be a quiet leader/nice guy to the media. MAN could that guy get on base. I still kinda miss him, I loved that everybody hated him and I knew better SAME i want to buy a bradley jersey and a taser and go sit in the bleachers. it would be the best day ever.
  23. people have been saying that for years, but i'm fairly certain he's never acknowledged it. i think it's definitely possible that it's true, he's done a lot of really weird stuff.
  24. i liked this a lot
  25. tell lee he's benched until he hits a hr in batting practice if he doesn't waive his 10-5 this is easy.
