  1. i hate to think how many times theo has had a late night out with maddon that ends with “seriously though, closer pitches first in a tie game on the road or i set your stupid car on fire” only to find out the next day that maddon was too wine drunk the night before to remember.
  2. Bryant knew that was going to hit him even before it left the pitcher’s hand
  3. hendricks immediately shifted from looking like he wanted to pitch into the eighth to looking like he wouldn’t finish the sixth. thanks addison.
  4. the horsefeathering mlb.tv between inning things that says “during this break in the action, here’s a popular clip from mlb.com” while the giant mlb.tv logo is displayed in the center of the screen is breaking my brain YOU CANT SAY SOMETHING SO SIMILAR TO WHAT IS ON THE SCREEN BUT NOT WHAT IS ON THE SCREEN
  5. my name should always be green just for fun
  6. i will start gam thread
  7. if it helps i can do a second entry
  8. I’ll take this team too. Will pm wild card!
  9. we’ve talked about this a little bit this offseason, but mlbtr did a nice breakdown of how minimal the panalties are for crossing the luxury tax threshold are here: https://www.mlbtraderumors.com/2018/03/offseason-in-review-chicago-cubs-10.html IN RELEVANT PART:
  10. why is chris long so good and kyle long so terrible
  11. looks stupid switch it back
  12. No. Neither of those things is inherently different from the basic game of baseball where you have 3 outs per 9 innings to advance a runner from home to home. It is much different. And dumb. And it will only slow the pace of play, because nothing slows things down like guys in running position in extras. I'm fine with it but would rather it start happening in the 12th inning or something. They can play it out for 3 extra innings and then try to speed it up. It's not about pace, obviously. But stupid long extra inning games are stupid and can tax pitching staffs to the point that it could linger on for days. I will not shed any tears if they are severely diminished. extremely long extra inning games are great and have basically no impact on the average length of a game or baseball being so long and slow that it doesn’t generate new fans. also if teams are that concerned about their pitching staffs they can send out position players to pitch which is also great.
  13. This will be the enduring Arrieta memory for me. First playoff appearance of the Theo era, franchise on a 9 game playoff losing streak, wild card winner-take-all game on the road. He crushed their souls so badly they threw at him just to try and get him off his rhythm. Arrieta responded by stealing second base, and then finishing the last 3 innings of the complete game shutout. He was a horsefeathering bad ass and I'll always love him. that game in pittsburgh is the only playoff game i’ve ever been to and i’ll never forget it. i never wanted the cubs to re-sign jake, and that honestly makes me sad for being a smart baseball fan, as i will almost certainly never have another night as fun as jake shouting out that he was going to kill the pirates and then killing the pirates. great man.
  14. he felt completely on the verge of being andy pratt most of the time.
  15. thanks for being good sometimes but I’ll help him pack
  16. stop pretending spring training means anything. mikolas is a nice bet.
  17. the ninth inning thing is a terrible nonsense nightmare, but i like the make-your-own-lineup thing quite a bit for both teams starting in the eleventh or something. as the sam miller piece argues, if we’re going to negate the fun of long extra innings, let’s install something that would be even more fun. this would accomplish that.
  18. There's a segment of Cubs twitter that just wants to spend, spend, spend, this year and next. Partly, it's because they want to get the best players (back end of contract be damned) but I believe a part of it's a dislike for billionaire owners and specifically the Ricketts and wanting to spend their money. i hate conservative horsefeathers billionaires like the ricketts and sincerely believe the low level luxury tax implications are extremely overblown but i’ve never thought for a second that the cubs should consider going after jd martinez. those people are crazy.
  19. it’s fun to do bad things
  20. quintana undervalued here
