pass on jake. sign cobb in that case. hell, even with monty we'll be fine. I think it would be pretty risky and stupid to not sign one of the 3. Especially with where the market is at, if the horsefeathering Brewers are our only competition for Darvish (at an already depressed price) I don’t see why we wouldn’t go get Jake/Cobb at an even lower price with little to no competition. yeah, the cubs are in a nice spot and would be favored over stl slightly if they added nothing, but it would honestly be a shame to take one of the few seasons we have with this cheap core and just roll the dice on this rotation as it currently stands. our 1-4 starters seem more dependable than most, but all pitchers are scary and we have exactly five usable starters at present. also chatwood might take a step forward and be good but it’s also not horribly unreasonable to say we might need to move him out of the rotation due to ineffectiveness by like july. every chance to win is sacred! the old saying still holds true. it would be a real disappointment if we saddled what is otherwise a really good chance to win with a starting rotation with no margin for error. happily, i think that’s very unlikely. now go get darvish.
