  1. We have a winner. No we don't. :? well i'm confused an upset by your presence too
  2. after getting in a screaming match with Martin Jol in practice.
  3. Looks like the Gooch is headed to Newcastle on loan. http://soccernet.espn.go.com/news/story?id=405435&cc=5901
  4. I was thinking the same thing. 3 of the 6 games I am going for actually are giving away items and not those stupid scratch tickets that you never win at. Last year all of the promotional dates I went to all I got was worthless scratch tickets. I never won. I won a Billy Williams autographed ball.
  5. We have a winner.
  6. yeah, if he wins the gold glove that'll really change my mind
  7. delete this thread and start a new one! I hear Modzilla is a Bears fan. You hear correctly. :DC'mon, Modzilla. You're definitely not supposed to be using the general, wussy smileyface. Use something more terrifying like this http://www.tfn.net/~mats/animss.gif
  8. i don't see how this is much different from urinating on your own hands, which we all know is something that is acceptable to do if you want to toughen them up a bit. I'd pay a dollar to do it.
  9. depends what you're willing to spend and how lucky you get on the day the tickets go on sale.
  10. Would it be better if I wrote that Kenny Cooper is slow as hell and almost got caught from behind after being sent thru with about 15 yards to spare? yes.
  11. i love the crappy AP postgame writeups: "Cooper, who was nearly offside, scored on a breakaway in the 80th minute." What incredible insight. Really gives me a picture of that goal.
  12. I would be shocked if they gave Prior more than 1 year at this point. There's no reason to offer it, unless he's willing to take peanuts in the 2nd year. Maybe they offer him an incentive-laden deal similar to Wood and Miller? I don't see the point. They'll sign him to a one year deal worth about the same as he made in 2006, possibly a little less, but likely a shade more. He's not a free agent whom they need to entice to return. He is under their control, and their only obligation is to offer a contract no less than 80% (or similar) of what he made last year. Apologies all around. I thought he was a free agent after the 2007 season. He was called up too late in 2002 for that year to count, so the free agency clock started ticking in 2003. That's why he's not a free agent until after 2008. Zambrano was up in 2001, and pitched 108 innings in 2002. http://mlbcontracts.blogspot.com/2005/01/chicago-cubs_112114177768677294.html That site has him at 5.042 years right now. So he'll cross 6 this year. http://www.mlbtraderumors.com/2008_mlb_free_agents/index.html That site also has him as an FA after 2007, before 2008. The conversation was about prior.
  13. According to this article, the Cubs did not offer him a raise.
  14. I don't know if anyone else has mentioned this yet, but how different would that last drive have been if the Chargers had a timeout to work with. unfortunately Marty blew the timeout on that stupid challenge, just because he didn't understand what had happened.
  15. I'd just like to state how much I love the Joe Buck sad voice after Gould kicked the game winner.
  16. Ok, here's the deal: AT&T was the god of communications. Then they were broken up. Then, in the span of a couple years, cingular bought their cell phone service, SBC bought their long distance, and comcast bought their cable. They went from being one of the biggest companies in the world to not existing in a few years by being split into pieces, with the weird result that there are "AT&Ts" out there that provide different services owned by different companies. Let me help. Cingular was owned by SBC. At&T wireless was owned by AT&T. When Cingular merged with AT&T wireless, Cingular became a joint venture between SBC and AT&T. Then SBC bought AT&T, and took the AT&T name. Therefore, in order to put all of their services under the same name, they are renaming Cingular as AT&T wireless.
  17. so the scouts are the arrogant ones, eh? you do realize you couldn't be relying on more biased sources unless you asked the players' grandmothers, don't you? i mean, come on. I just ask the players themselves.
  18. i'd like to see a link showing that the sponsors are going to pay most of it. it'd change my mind on the deal... oh, there's another rumor that Edgar Davids might come here also.
  19. That's my concern. They just gave one guy more money than the rest of the league makes all together. That's an incredibly risky move for a player on the decline. I really don't like this move. For $50m annually? That could have bought you probably 6 other players from Europe under the Beckham Rule that probably help 6 different markets more than Beckham helps the league. I don't think this signing means MLS is going to attract top talent. We can't even keep our top talent here. You're telling me European and South American talent are going to ignore going to Serie A, the EPL and La Liga just because Beckham is here? I don't buy it. The league has no idea how to officiate technically sound players. He's going to take a bloody beating from oafish defenders. This move just doesn't make any sense beyond marketing to casual fans who are going to go see him once, and then walk away wondering what the fuss was about. If the MLS is doing this in order to attract top talent, it's not a good move. if the league is doing this in order to make a splash with the media, then it's a decent move. Also, this sets the price really high for other players rumored to be considering coming here. For example: Ronaldo. Can MLS afford to bring in Ronaldo in 1-2 years for somewhere close to this price? I tend to doubt it.
