They're the two disorders caused by overproduction (or, in this case, overuse) of growth hormone, but the key difference is whether the growth plates of the bones have fused yet. In the case of gigantism, the growth plates have not fused and the long bones can get longer (i.e. Robert Wadlow). In the case of acromegaly, the growth plates have fused, and you get a number of symptoms consistent with growth of non-long bones, such as spade-shaped hands and brow and jaw protrusion. /spent wayyyyyyyy too long studying biology
