  1. I think you're thinking of Alex Cora working against Matt Clement. The at-bat lasted something like 18 minutes.
  2. On the topic of that interview, is anyone else thoroughly creeped out by Frank Deford? http://www.hbo.com/realsports/img/252x190/frank_full_252.jpg He has stranger danger written all over him.
  3. He was actually a Cub twice, the end of 2003 and briefly last year. It's like that ex that you take back against the best judgment or you and your friends. You just can't help yourself. Then you're reminded of just how awful it was.
  4. Either that or Lou carries a gun around with him in the locker room. That would make me mighty uncomfortable.
  5. No offense to Mike Marshall, but these are the same "pitching experts" that said Prior had perfect mechanics coming into the MLB. Opinions are like. . . well, you know what. Everybody has one.
  6. I concur. He's tearing the ball in the first couple weeks of spring training, where pitchers are nowhere near their best. Let's see what he does later in the spring and in AAA before bringing him up. The Cubs learned their lesson with Corey Patterson.
  7. I'm assuming someone tossed him some cash. I believe a Chicago Area dentist fixed his teath for free a few years back. Mancow Muller paid to have his teeth fixed cause Ronnie couldn't afford it I guess. And now Mancow is off the air here. The two aren't related, but I just wanted to point out how awesome it is that Mancow isn't on Chicago radio anymore. Actually, it was Jonathan Brandmeier back in the early to mid 90s who found a dentist to donate his services for RWW.
  8. That's kind of creepy. Did she know him at all because if not this move was not a good one in any way. Probably one of the worst ideas ever. Truly one of the worst ideas ever. I know who RWW is and I wouldn't let him anywhere near my house. Joke or not.
  9. Best Ronnie Woo Woo story ever: A girl I work with used to live right across from Wrigley. One morning she goes out for a run and on her way back home, she runs into Ronnie. She thinks it would be a great idea to take Ronnie back to her place so he can wake up her roommate with his annoying voice. A great idea turned into possible police action because this roommate not only had no idea who Ronnie was, but thought she was about to be raped because of some strange man in her bedroom. Lesson learned: Ronnie Woo Woo is a menace to us all.
  10. Exhibits A and B: Vlad Guerrero and Carlos Beltran Until Soriano, the team hasn't been known to go after the best players on the market regardless of cost.
  11. Okay, let's look at the logistics of having A-Rod sign with the Cubs. Scott Boras clients don't take a discount. With the amount of money the Cubs have committed this off-season, and the potential for Z's contract, will the team be hamstringing itself moving forward? I would anticipate that it would take a 5-6 year contract at about $18-22 million per year based on current market conditions to sign a player like A-Rod and I think that's the low end. What are everyone else's thoughts on the matter?
  12. After watching the site go down again yesterday, I finally mustered up the cash (it was a nice payday for me!) and made the donation to become a Premium Member. Thanks for maintaing the site and server Tim!
  13. 102 RBI for Soriano in the leadoff spot? with Izturis in the 8-hole? I don't know, that's crazy talk if I ever heard it.
  14. I also bought Lindy's (Smith and Street wasn't out yet). I didn't much care for their analysis of teams. Sporting News has the Cubs finishing 3rd behind the Cardinals and Astros. Regardless, the next time these sort of publications are right will be the first time these publications are right. They're nice for some analysis of players, but their predictions are usually off-base.
  15. What in the world is going on?! Were these guys being blackmailed into doing this spread of was the cash from Playgirl too good to pass up?
  16. How crazy is it that the lineup is exactly what we at NSBB would look for? I'm heading off to church. Armageddon surely must be upon us!
  17. In a rational world, those concerns would have begun the minute they named Looper as their #4 starter.
  18. I certainly have no problem with the stats discussed on this board, even if I don't always understand them. The "newer" stats I'm more comfortable with are offensively based, OBP, OPS, SLG, etc. I'm still trying to wrap my head around the pitching stats like WHIP, bb/9, K/9, etc. The minute you start talking WARP, VORP or anything like that, my eyes turn glassy and I start sucking my thumb. I've never been good at stats or math to begin with, so I don't think I'll ever completely figure these things out.
  19. Those of us who are upset with today's results shouldn't probably visit the Chicago Tribune post thread discussing Santo. It's pretty vicious. Makes me happy for my NSBB!
  20. Then why have it at all? To give HOF members a chance to include guys who might not have gotten a fair shake from writers. See, the Veteran's Committee wants it both ways. They want to feel like they'll include players from their generation that may not have gotten a fair shake, but then they do the exact opposite. I say they give part of the vote to the fans. Say that they have a Web ballot that counts for 2-3 votes for the top three players on top of the committee vote. I think that fans can be much more objective to who should be in the Hall.
  21. I guess the Cubs now HAVE to win the World Series this year just to boost Ronnie's spirits.
  22. Top vote getters: Santo (57 votes, 69.5%) Jim Kaat (52, 63.4%) Gil Hodges (50, 61%) Tony Oliva (47, 57.3%) Maury Wills (33, 40.2%) Absolutely ridiculous.
  23. 3 minutes and counting. . . .
  24. I just want it known that while everyone will be regaling us with stories of their successes and failures, I will be at McCormick Place at the Chicago Dental Society Midwinter Meeting working my work's booth. :x :x :x And I won't have the chance to get any tickets until after 5:30 p.m.!!!!
