  1. Did you notice the completely wasted Jim McMahon whenever he is in public? Fixed.
  2. That's all well and good but he's been cut from at least playoff rosters that I can think of. That's much more telling than being on the regular season roster.
  3. Force Miles and Gregg to put on ski masks and Nancy Kerrigan Adam Wainright, Pujols and Carpenter.
  4. poorly? I wouldn't want him back on my team or anything but he did put in a lot of effort. There was a point that it looked like he should be playing and wasn't. You didn't hear complaining from him about it. He just took his opportunities when he could and was quiet about it. If they gave me a chance, I'd put in more effort than Matt Murton. I'd probably never hit the ball out of the infield, but I'd try like the dickens. Would you mourn my designation for assignment if I didn't complain about it? I don't know. Are you left handed?
  5. That's what bugs the crap out of me. I watch a ton of games and listen to even more on the radio, so I hear several different broadcasters. A majority of them (especially the TV analysts) don't know a damn thing about anything outside of the 25-man roster of their own team, and they might not even know that much. Seriously, if it's your job, the thing you do everyday for a living, and you have a fairly decent audience paying attention to you when you're doing your job, you'd think you wouldn't want to come across like a complete moron. If your primary job is to sit in a booth and talk about baseball for approximately three hours 162 times a season, be prepared. If the team you cover is playing a three-game series against another team, don't you think it would be a good idea to get a basic knowledge of the opponent? Perhaps learn a little bit about some nagging injuries they might have that could be affecting performance or learn about some their top prospects? If they're struggling in an area, maybe spend five minutes finding out why, so you can talk about it on the air. Oh look, they called up a mediocre rookie pitcher to fill in for a start; might be a good idea to figure out what he throws before you go on the air. This is a main reason why people rip on Joe Morgan all the time. On the rare occasion he won't offer an opinion on something, he uses the excuse that he hasn't seen that team play much, if at all, this season. He's doing what, one or two broadcasts per week? Watch some damn video and be prepared. I know numbers are scary and all, but pick up a stat sheet and review it for an hour. It's not all that hard. Like Santo prepares for a game? "Who's that in rightfield for the Cubs, Patrick?" "How did Soriano get to third?" You will find virtually no one on this board that believes Santo is a great color announcer.
  6. She works for the Sun-Times, that's how.
  7. It's been done. Dave Trembley currently in Baltimore.
  8. I don't understand the fascination some teams/fans have with bringing back former players to manage or coach. It's not like employers in the real world bring back former workers because of fond memories. If you can do the job proficiently, you get the job. Simple as that. Oh, and Ozzie Guillen sucks. :D)
  9. You certainly wouldn't have to deal with that in Naples.
  10. Has he tried reading from the Frederick's of Hollywood catalog?
  11. This is like the Brigadoon for snarky sports journalism. GLEE!
  12. Bring back Neifury!!!
  13. fixed Double fixed.
  14. I get what you are saying. But with our OF situation, Rios wouldn't make any sense. Oh god yes. Rios is the wrong answer to every question the Cubs have. I'm just saying in general.
  15. It's this type of move (right or wrong) that upsets me about the Cubs current ownership situation. Hendry's hands were tied significantly from taking on someone like Peavy who would have helped our rotation immensely or take a risk on an offensive player that clearly could have helped. Grr.
  16. Would it be worth it to sign DeRosa again?
  17. No he wouldn't. He played this season, the other 2 didn't. And I'm not sure Glavine makes it 1st ballot. 300 wins is no longer automatic for HOF voters?
  18. I believe the only player on the Mets roster equitable to Dubois is Santana. I look forward to his arrival at O'Hare.
  19. The Giants rotation probably scares me the most. Lincecum and Cain are a force of nature.
  20. In an ideal world that would be the case. But I can see Lou keeping Lilly in the rotation regardless because he's a leftie. Although if Gorz pitches for the remainder of the season like he did on Wednesday, who knows who that leftie would be.
  21. Given Harden's erratic starts, I'd be more likely to put him in the bullpen and keep Dempster in the rotation as the fourth starter. EDIT: I take that back. I just looked at Harden's gamelogs. Dempster is definitely going into the bullpen, though maybe not as closer.
  22. I'm going to hate him because he's a litigious drunk driver.
  23. Last night, he also came up with the Nobel-worthy idea of taking Dempster out of the rotation to become our closer. Apparently, we're so deep in our rotation that we can pay Dempster $52 million to go into the bullpen. God bless him, but I think those years playing with Darren Daulton are beginning to affect him.
  24. I love that wins is his justification. That and he's been an excellent guy. Yea using wins and the fact that he never answered the question really. I miss FJM at times like this. :cray:
  25. Imagine if they played in NY. Latroy did... poorly.
