  1. Not with the way he plays defense. I want to see Bradley move to 3, aram 4, soto 5 There's not much of a demand for good defensive punchin judy first basemen in the league. Mentkievich is the only guy I can think of that's been able to pull it off.
  2. You do have to admit there are more parallels between Gregg and alf than Gregg and wood... Like the whole former Florida closer that the marlins didn't want anymore... Personally, I hope we never make another deal w Florida again.
  3. That's alright. He'll rise and come back 100% the next game.
  4. How about both? I'm surprised I didn't think of him first when I saw this thread, but here's the captain of the team... Manny.
  5. Steve Kline in the pen, and his cheating apprentice, Julian Tavarez.
  6. There's always the question of Harden being healthy in the future too, even if he does have a healthy season this year. I don't think it's a good assumption that getting Peavy means we can't afford Harden. We've always been good at keeping the elite players we want to keep. The last guy that we really wanted to keep that walked on us was Maddux. That wouldn't stop me from going after Peavy. Get them both for the postseason. Maybe we can keep both, maybe not. If we don't try, we only have one of the two for this postseason, then one of them next year. If we get him, then we have both to try to win the WS this year, and at worst, we only have one of the two next year. Maybe things work out and we keep both. Harden's the better pitcher (probably), but due to his health concerns I think I'd prefer to have Peavy for four years. Peavy's more likely to be healthy for the duration than Harden is (effectiveness is another question I guess, but there's no guarantee when/if either pitcher will fall off a cliff). I worded my last post badly. The risk of losing Harden for Peavy next year is worth the possibility of having them both for a postseason for sure, and the chance of keeping both beyond that. That, and the part about the health factor you mentioned...
  7. If Geo were in the lineup, I'd hit DLee 8th. If Geo were in, DLee honestly would be the player that I'd expect the least production from in the lineup. He's been struggling to make decent contact for a long time now. He's simply not a power threat, he's not hitting for average, and he's not walking any more like he used to. I wouldn't be surprised if he finds himself out of the league when his contract is up if he doesn't turn around this slide that is a couple of years in the making.
  8. Very strange. I would have expected 130 minimum from him. Damned...beat me too it.
  9. That was easily one of the worst 5 over-managed games I've ever seen in my life. I could have sworn we still had Dusty in the dugout. That said, I still like Lou. He's going to make some good decisions and some bad decisions throughout the year. I think his pluses outweigh his minuses.
  10. The save is a worthless stat, and comparing him to Wood based on that worthless stat is pretty meaningless. He's appeared in three games so far. He gave up a run in the one save he converted...so the only difference between that performance and a blown save was that the offense provided more of a cushion. In his second appearance, he was on the mound and gave up the winning run in the 10th. Cotts took the L though because he was the one that put that guy on. So, Gregg failed to perform in that appearance and get out of the jam. Can't put all of the blame on him for the loss, but he still failed to do his job. Then in his last appearance, he gave up two runs while getting only one out in the inning. He's given up a total of four hits and three walks in a total of two innings of work so far. That's a WHIP of 3.75. And it's not based on "one bad outing." That's not to say that this is a predictor for the rest of the season, as it's a small sample size. The whole point is that comparing him to Wood at this point in the season is extremely misleading at best, but it seems more like it's deceiving than misleading to me.
  11. Devin is closer to Denver than Hester is.

  13. I called shotgun on the Gregg Sucks bandwagon the day we traded for him.
  14. Disagree on the first point. After a guy spends so much time on the DL, you have to accept they're injury prone. Otherwise, we'd still be trying to field a rotation with Prior and Wood. Yeah, the stuff happens all of the time. The whole point of the thread was just to poke a little fun at the fact that I've caught myself holding my breath hoping he's alright so many times already because of that history. Not to seriously endorse the superstitions that have evolved around baseball. (p.s. he was hit by the knee, not in the back...)
  15. Hence the title being a question instead of a statement.
  16. Yeah, but the real question is...can he jump over a car?
  17. I wonder if the Angels will step up in the Gaudin sweeps.
  18. I've been a Cubs fan for going on 27 years now. I'm used to it.
  19. They're forced to go with the best avail. option at WR left on the board, I looked at various positions, but I'm not sure what this draft is heavy or weak with based on positions but... WR D-Line Secondary Back-up HB LB O-line depth For me, this is my order of importance. The Bears resigned Kevin Jones...do they really need to waste a pick on a RB? I hope they don't. They also still have Wolfe as a backup too.
  20. No they won't. Half their lineup doesn't belong in the majors. And Dusty will destroy their pitching staff before August.
  21. No, but getting outright released from a club does. It's hard to fathom that anyone could think he doesn't have something to prove at this point, whether you liked the Cubs decision or not.
  22. They don't call him DLee for nothing.
  23. I can't tell you how many times this series I held my breath because of a play involving Bradley during that series. From the somersault where he flipped over his head diving for that one ball, to when he tweaked his ankle at first base because he was watching the play in the outfield, to being hit by a pitch yesterday. When I watch him play, it seems like once or twice a game I get that same feeling in the pit of my stomach like I got when Prior took the line drive off of his elbow.
  24. Honestly, I could care less. He's a good manager, but I have no reason to believe he'd have any value over replacement in a non managing role. The only thing I'd really like to see is Hendry get back into scouting instead of being a GM (assuming we get a better GM of course, and I don't think Hendry's bad).
  25. Then Hendry could take Hendry's old job.
