  1. So, can he retire now? Kind of like Bernie Mac in Mr. 3000?
  2. On the other hand, if the Cubs got Peavy they'd have arguably 3 #1 caliber starters and 2 solid #2 starters. They could afford to have an actual #5 for a few starts here and there. If 3 of their front line starters get hurt they're dead even if they keep Marshall and Smardz Not necessarily. You're assuming that if they all go down, they go down at the same time and for an extended period. We could end up with all three spending time on the DL, but with only a little overlap, throughout the season, and still be in decent shape if we can get league average production from whoever steps up to be the #5 starter when needed.
  3. Craig Monroe would be a good choice. They've only got around 20 or so good choices.
  4. LOTS of walks Leading the league in walks. We don't. Brewers, Dodgers, and have more. The Brewers and Dodgers also have played one more game than us though, but Cincy has one walk on us in the same number of games. Who would have thought that one of Dusty's teams would be leading the league in walks per game while talking about hitters and not pitchers? Obviously an indicator of small sample size.
  5. Hopefully someone else in the pen can step up like Gooz. Pipe dream, I know, but maybe someone will step up.
  6. Not that I wouldn't do it, but I'd be hesitant to send both Shark and Marshall over for Peavy. Peavy, Z, and Harden all had arm problems of some sort last year. Dempster is a TJ reclamation project and only has one starting season under his belt since then. No way we get Peavy without giving up Marshall. So that leaves Shark as our depth. I don't like the idea of Atkins or someone like that being our first backup at SP, as it's inevitable we'll need at least one, if not two fill ins at some point in the season.
  7. Yes! I won the office pool. I called his second start would be the one where he went back down! My buddy's going to be pissed.
  8. The headline says it's a hammy, but the first sentence says groin strain, which is what they were saying yesterday. I don't trust ESPN knows the difference.
  9. Welcome to the board, Mr. Gregg. I was thinking Mrs. Gregg, but yeah. :-))
  10. He'll never keep it up. :D I won't complain if he only drops 3 or 4 hundred points off of his OPS by the end of the year.
  11. I don't think we ever heard anything like this out of Dusty... http://www.cbssports.com/mlb/gamecenter/recap/MLB_20090413_COL@CHC I feel sorry for Cueto, Volquez and crew.
  12. Please tell me you are joking. Why? The whole "they played so they know better" line is a bunch of bull-puckey. I have no doubt that Lou is probably better at managing a 25 man clubhouse, practices, and all the other crap that a manager has to do than any of us in here probably could. But when it comes to in-game moves, I can think of 5-10 guys here off the top of my head I'd rather have making moves than lou. You're taking him out of context. Rob only compared him to other MLB managers. If you looked at the other 30 managers in baseball, I don't think Lou would be too far from the middle of the pack. For example, Dusty's still employed, so you know he's not the worst.
  13. Bill Buckner doesn't deserve to be anywhere near the list. He's took enough from 86 to 04.
  14. I'd rather see Theriot hit third than DLee right now.
  15. I don't see any parallels between DLee and known roid users. I wouldn't be any more shocked to find out Theriot was a roider than I would Lee.
  16. Derrek Lee really didn't ground into that many DPs relative to chances. EDIT: Ok, he grounded into a decent amount, but not at the absurd rate people seem to think. 15% DP rate, 23rd out of 138 BA title qualifiers. That puts him in the top 6th of all hitters. That's high for your #3 hitter, who is supposed to be your best hitter.
  17. He should still be good for at least an .800ish OPS, which, when almost everyone in your lineup is likely to do (minus SS) or exceed, makes for a pretty damn good offense. I'm predicting DLee finishes with an OPS of around .720. I'll be happy if he doesn't hit into 20+ dps this year. That's just silly. It's not like falling of a cliff in your age 33 season is unheard of. Nor is it not like DLee hasn't been showing a lot of signs of decline in the last year or so.
  18. Tejada set the national league record for GIDP last year at 32. I thought DLee lead the league in that, but I guess not...

  20. It's already been mentioned that Fick never played 2b...but I'm amazed no one caught the obvious candidate who should be at the top of everyone's list of dbags at 2b... Joe Morgan. Also, while we're at it, if we're doing a whole dbag team, I see no problem with fielding a whole bullpen, starting rotation, and bench.
  21. Let's add the other Ozzie for leading an Obama-style campaign to get himself into the hall on the first ticket.
  22. That's weak. I don't understand the hate for a guy who puts maximizing his time with his family while keeping them stable in one town over baseball. I applaud the guy for it. Family is more important, I don't care what job you have.
  23. It's getting to the point I'd really rather see Hoff out there. Not cuz Hoff is great, but Lee just isn't even going up to the plate with a decent approach anymore.
