  1. Not nearly as much as there might have used to be. Many SS are now around that or above: (Listed as) Jeter: 6-3 195 ARod: 6-3 225 (He should be a SS) Tulo: 6-3 205 Tejada: 5-9 225 Renteria: 6-1 200 Peralta: 6-1 210
  2. Tuesday, May 13 Wrigley Field | 7:05 PM CT SD Shawn Estes, LHP (0-0, 0.00) @ CHC Jason Marquis, RHP (1-2, 5.08) Padres (14-25) Cubs (23-15) Scouting Report: Padres: On the day that he had his contract purchased from Triple-A Portland, Estes allowed two unearned runs in 1 2/3 innings of relief in a 5-4 loss to the Braves on Thursday, striking out two and walking one. He is the Padres' No. 5 starter for now and will make his first start since April 5, 2006, when he faces the Cubs. Estes threw some nice two-seam fastballs against the Braves and had good break on his curveball, impressing manager Bud Black. Cubs: Marquis is coming off a disappointing loss against the Cardinals in which he walked five and gave up seven hits over 5 1/3 innings. The right-hander does have a slightly better ERA on the road, but he's kept the walks down at home, issuing three in three starts over 16 1/3 innings. On the road, he's walked 12 in 17 1/3 innings. Marquis hasn't been consistent, and usually gets off to a good start. He needs to get on track.
  3. I don't go to many movies and I don't rent, but based on those choices, I'd rent.
  4. Monday, May 12 Wrigley Field | 7:05 PM CT SD Randy Wolf, LHP (2-2, 4.14) @ CHC Carlos Zambrano, RHP (5-1, 1.80) Padres (14-24) Cubs (22-15) Scouting Report: Padres: Wolf pitched well at times in his last start on May 7 in Atlanta, needing 78 pitches to get through six innings. Better still, Wolf got the Braves to hit into four double plays in the first six innings alone before loading the bases with no outs in a 2-2 game in the seventh inning. Reliever Joe Thatcher allowed those three runs to score as the Padres. Wolf, who had four walks, struggled with his command early but soon got the Braves to hit ground ball after ground ball. Cubs: Zambrano was supposed to start Sunday, but was moved back after rain delayed the start of game. The big right-hander is coming off his most efficient outing of the season. Zambrano's 113 pitches marked his second-highest total of the season, but it came over a season-high eight innings in which he struck out only three. He has allowed a total of only two runs over his past four starts and has not tasted defeat since April 11.
  5. - Scouting Report: D-backs: Johnson picked up the win against the Phillies his last time out despite allowing four runs on five hits over six innings. Most importantly for Johnson was that his surgically-repaired back felt the best it has in two years. The win was No. 286 for Johnson. The left-hander is still working out the kinks in his command, but he seemed to get a jump in velocity this time around as his fastball touched 94 mph and his slider checked in at 86 with some of its old bite. Cubs: Zambrano isn't striking out batters at the same rate as he has in years past, but he is getting the job done, and doing so effectively. He held the Reds scoreless over eight innings in his last start, striking out three and giving up three hits. It was a solid effort, and he got better as the game progressed.
  6. ARI Max Scherzer, RHP (0-1, 5.40) @CHC Ryan Dempster, RHP (4-1, 2.72) Diamondbacks (23-13) Cubs (20-15) Scouting Report: D-backs: Scherzer made his Major League debut on April 29 and set the baseball world buzzing as he retired all 13 batters he faced in relief of Edgar Gonzalez. Scherzer, who was the team's No. 1 pick in the 2006 First-Year Player Draft, struck out seven and his electric fastball reached 98 mph at times during the dominating performance. The D-backs put Scherzer in the rotation in place of Gonzalez and he struggled a bit in his first start against the Phillies, allowing five runs (two earned) on seven hits over four innings. Cubs: Dempster is coming off his first loss of the season. He was charged with five runs -- none earned -- on four hits over six innings against the Reds. The right-hander is the first Cubs pitcher to give up at least five unearned runs and no earned runs since Greg Hibbard was charged with six runs, all unearned, on July 11, 1993, against Houston. Dempster did strike out a season-high seven, but the Reds took advantage of two errors by the Cubs for the win.
  7. So far. The streak was actually "President Elected in the year ending in 0 dies." 1840: Harrison - Died from Pneumonia only a month after elected. 1860: Lincoln 1880: Garfield 1900: McKinley 1920: Harding - Stroke (Apparently) 1940: Roosevelt 1960: Kennedy 1980: Reagan - survived, apparently broke the streak 2000: Bush - still has a few months?
  8. I wasn't alive.
  9. I loved seeing the highlights on FSN earlier while at Old Chicago and seeing a fat, hillbilly cards fan dancing after the Pujols' homer followed by two hot cubs fans dancing later.
  10. I was at that game. Sammy hit three homers, and the Cubs of course lost to Colorado (14-7 I think). It was an awesome catch. August 9, 2001: Rockies 14 Cubs 5 Sosa hit 3 solo homers...
  11. Memo to Lou: NO MORE STEALS. NONE AT ALL.
  12. Asking for PBP on a play that gave away the lead is probably a good way to get an angry response. Not that he deserved it, but it's the game thread, and many posters quite obviously have trouble keeping emotions in check in this thread. Its not that he asked for pbp, BigSlick did too, its that he acted like thats our purpose here, not to have any reactions or anything.
  13. Why? He should have been out of the inning with out damage. Of course, if it wasn't Ed Cantcallastrike umping, he probably would have been out of the inning with only the run.
  14. The game thread is for reaction too, nobody here has to do play by play.
  15. Bravo Theriot, you're clearly showing why you should be starting.
  16. It doesn't help that strike three to Cedeno was on the line for the other batters box.
  17. Oh how many times that was said here...
