  1. Eno's model (which is what lives on Fangraphs) were more bullish on Horton's first start even with the velo being down a tick.
  2. If Shota shoves against this lineup with the wind blowing out we really start having Ace conversations IMO
  3. As is standard with Mooney it uses a lot of words to say very little, but the vibe I get from this is that Marlins reliever trade probably isn't very close, but that Jed is likely to go big game hunting on the relief market this summer. Someone like Ryan Pressly?
  4. The Cubs lost last night Once again, the bullpen spontaneously combusted The fans are getting a bit restless with Jed Thankfully the team is starting to get healthy Shota is on the mound for the Cubs against a AAA scrub But if we lose tonight people are going to lose their minds Go Cubs
  5. Would make me think best guess for Bellinger is Friday and Monday for Suzuki?
  6. This jumped out to me with both Braves-Cubs series coming up in the next few weeks. If he and Olson want to wait until June to get right that'd be great.
  7. I'm curious who goes down for Steele tonight - It's clearly not Leiter, Almonte, or Neris short of a surprise injury - Brown or Wesneski both got the below nod from Counsell for staying up. Plus if they were going down you'd think it'd have happened over the weekend - Palencia has looked phenomenal since his last callup, so not only should he not go down he needs to get higher leverage work - Brewer and Lovelady are nothing special, but both are pitching well right now and it feels like the club can't take that for granted at the moment? Also Brewer you'd lose permanently if you send him down - Thompson's last two outings haven't been great, but are they really enough to ship him back to Iowa? - Alzolay is an absolute mess right now, and can't be optioned to Iowa. Do you phantom IL him to get him a week or two in the pitch lab and then a couple rehab outings to get back into the groove against real hitters?
  8. I saw one of the prospect guys on Twitter mention that Miami's farm is so bad they probably have to focus on quantity over quality. And that's what made the early Arraez trade possible because the incentive to hold out and wait for a blue chipper to shake loose just isn't there.
  9. I think they mentioned on TV one day this weekend 75 pitches
  10. https://blogs.fangraphs.com/when-92-is-actually-95-bailey-falters-extension-adds-meaningful-velocity/ If Horton truly lives at 5.8 ft for his extension, that means his fastball plays down by nearly a full MPH. Hopefully much like the raw velocity his extension is something that was a bit anomalously low on Saturday for whatever reason (nerves, weather, etc.) Sonny Gray is a really fun comp. I don't if he's always had the cut-ride fastball, but when Gray was young and sitting 94 he was an absolute star. Cade's 95 would effectively be 94 even with that poor extension cited above.
  11. Really curious who it would be. Tanner Scott was the hot name over the winter, but he has been a bit of a mess this season. He appears to be coming out of it, but it'd be sort of like trading for Adbert Alzolay immediately after he manages to string together 3-4 solid outings. If the Cubs' bullpen wasn't a dumpster fire currently you obviously take Scott on as a project right now. As is do we think Jed targets someone with less track record and less upside but who is pitching well right this second?
  12. Cubs in first Padres pitching staff getting shredded right before coming to town Steele back tomorrow Bellinger and Suzuki potentially back as early as Friday I'm not looking forward to those Braves series but otherwise hard not to feel good about things
  13. Musgrove was slated to go Tuesday against the Cubs
  14. If Almonte is going to be not only passable but good against lefties he should probably be closing.
  15. It's something the NorthsideBound guys made up. Basically OPS+ with an age relative to league component added in. A pretty good idea honestly but not something I'm incorporating into my parlance.
  16. I think if we were ranking prospects most likely to be part of a deadline trade of substance Triantos would be #1 by quite a margin.
  17. I don't thinknit is until it happens a fee more times. There's probably some nerves for his first AAA start, it was a bit cold, and he stretched out to a new season high in pitches. Also clearly the command wasn't there yesterday which is probably related to the velo being down a tick. He is supposed to have more velo than he had yesterday so it is something to keep an eye on. He's not quite Brown velo wise but he should be sitting at like 95 and change I believe..
  18. Assuming Wesneski is getting the Wednesday start, I wonder if Brown is available out of the bullpen today or if they're saving him for tomorrow knowing that Steele's on a pitch count.
  19. 94.9 looks like https://baseballsavant.mlb.com/gamefeed?date=5/4/2024&gamePk=753152&chartType=pitch&legendType=pitchName&playerType=pitcher&inning=&count=&pitchHand=&batSide=&descFilter=&ptFilter=&resultFilter=&hf=playerBreakdown&sportId=11
  20. My guy Sam McWilliams got knocked around too, tough day pitching all around in that game.
  21. Thought this was interesting in the comments If he's switched to a cut-ride fastball a la Justin Steele that would maybe excuse the velo drop. It's also just one outing in slightly chilly settings but the velo being south of 94 definitely caught my eye in a bad way.
  22. It's wild how the bullpen is catching just no breaks right now, except Neris who clearly has a deal with the devil. Over the last week the bullpen has 21.2 IP, 10 BB, 28 K, and 18 runs (plus a Manfred man if you want to say 19) It reminds me of a Simpsons gag where something just spontaneously explodes with little provocation. This should just be a weird temporary thing but it is wild how constant it is.
  23. https://www.fangraphs.com/depthcharts.aspx?position=BaseRuns The Baseruns Runs Scored and Runs allowed are sequencing neutral. FG lists per game numbers but multiply that by games played and you get a raw number. Looks like the Cubs have been unlucky on the pitching side but by just a run, so nothing notable.
