  1. I ran into a problem that started Friday and lasted all weekend. when I went to the site, I had to log in instead of being automatically logged in, but when I tried to log in and check the box to automatically log in, the site kept freezing up.
  2. according to that link, all the AL teams get a shot at claiming them first.
  3. anyone know why the 1st game is not available via gameday audio
  4. that article also says he is in his 6th season w/the Pads which would make him a 10/5 guy, but in an earlier thread about a possible trade of Giles to the Cubs I think nilo pointed out that he signed/was traded to the Pads slightly less than 5 years ago.
  5. if another team (or several other teams) also claimed him and he either rejects a trade to Boston or a deal w/Boston can't be worked out, can the Pads negotiate with the next team in line that claimed him or is he automatically taken off of waivers?
  6. Same league first, then opposing league. If thats the case, then the Cubs passed on him, right?
  7. correct me if I'm wrong but don't all the AL teams (starting w/the team w/the worst record and then going up) get to consider first whether or not to claim him and then it goes to the NL teams or does it go back and forth? If its the former, he still would have to be considered by all the NL teams before he got to the Cubs, but if it's the latter, then he got pretty far up the chain before he was claimed.
  8. Pat & Ron just mentioned the cut-off time is 3:00pm central
  9. Isn't Giles a 10/5 guy or does he have a NTC, either of which will require his consent to a trade? If so, what are chances he won't approve a trade to the Cubs?
  10. as someone who corrects people for their grammar, you might want to avoid phrases like "might could"   Is that some kind of Louisiana thing or something? I've seen that before, though extremely infrequently. "Might could" is a very southern thing. I hear it around here all the time. I used a could talk good until I moved to the south
  11. That's a good thought. Put him on waivers. He'll clear, and if some one is silly enough to claim him, give them the Randy Myers treatment and let them have him, salary and all. is there anyway to find out if that has already been done (the putting him on waivers part)?
  12. my bad. didn't realize Helton is having an off year.
  13. If the Cubs could land either Holliday or Todd Helton, would you guys do a deal that includes DLee going to Colorado?
  14. so what exactly did the blog article say and who wrote it? anyone with any credibility or just someone stating an opinion?
  15. The Cubs didn't stand pat in 03. Kenny Lofton, Aramis Ramirez, and Randall Simon were all added for the stretch run. I was thinking more in terms of pitching. I do recall Lofton & Simon being added late in the year but I'm not sure I would consider them difference makers. when was Ramirez acquired? The only pitching they needed was maybe a set up guy, but Farnsworth was pretty decent most of that year. I guess they could have upgraded at closer, but Borowski didn't do any bad in the playoffs. What pitcher could they have acquired that would have been better than Prior, Wood, Clement, or Zambrano? Also, how do you forget when the freaking best player on the team was acquired? That move put us in the playoffs. Everyone gives Lofton the praise, but Ramirez was the real difference maker. me memory ain't what it used to be

  17. I'm a firm believer that when a team is poised to go to the post season and have a good chance to go all the way as the Cubs are this year, you do what is necessary to ensure as best as possible that it happens. If that means parting with some top prospects/players to obtain a difference maker, you do it, even if the difference maker turns out to be a rental. The Cubs stood pat in 2003 IIRC and I think that, more than their foibles in game 6, cost them going to the WS. I think Gallagher has a promising future but if it means getting CC for the stretch run, you trade him for a GOOD chance to end 100 years of Cub fan suffering.
  18. my thoughts exactly after learning the entire url must now be used to ge to the site :D
  19. hasn't D'ro been playing an adequate LF as well?
  20. don't know if this was brought up in this thread since I did not go thru each post, but I saw a game last year at one of the rooftop venues and it was well worth the price. came to $150/person but that included all the food and drink you can shove in your pie hole for the majority of the game. the view was great and we also got to meet J. Noah who was there with another group. great guy. anyway, just an option if tickets to wrigley are scarse.
  21. Does anyone have any stats on how many times Soriano lead off an inning when he batted in the #1 spot at the beginning of the game? I don't necessarily like him hitting in the #1 spot, but doing so doesn't necessarily mean he's leading off all that much, or does it?
  22. It would be hilarious, but I doubt it happens. yeh, I doubt it happens too. but it sure will be a hoot if he does. stranger things have happened. none of us knows the deal the Cubs offered Prior other than it being an incentive laden one with a team option for a 2nd yr, and for all we know Prior's agent may be the one who pressed/convinced him to reject it and hope the Cubs would not offer arbi so he can test free agency. if the deal the Cubs offered him turns out to be the best one offered and the Cubs are still willing to offer it, well...........
  23. how funny this entire thread will be if Prior ends up re-signing w/the Cubs.
  24. perhaps the Cubs know more than we do about the status of Prior's injury rehab and if/when he may be able to pitch again.
  25. Stories re the Jones signing said he and Furcal are good friends from their days in Atlanta & Furcal spoke to Jones and perhaps helped pursuade him to sign w/the Dodgers, so I doubt LA would move Furcal now.
