  1. I'm not a big fan of acquiring him either. However, if the Cubs are finished with the CP experiment and are more concerned now with Pie as the CF of the future, what about a swap of CPatt for Pierre with JHJ moving to LF. Another thought, Philly needs a CF. Could the Cubs be looking at Pierre to move him in a deal to Philly to acquire Wagner?
  2. If that happens that'll be twice in 2 years that the Astros have shown a committment to winning and dealt prospects for an impact bat. That. Would. Suck. Maybe instead of holding onto our prospects until their value plummets, we should be a bit more aggressive. If The Astros are a possibility, that means the Reds are willing to deal within the division. That would suck however, look where it got the Astros. They didn't reach the WS last year after getting Beltran and then lost him as a FA. Even tho Dunn is not going to be a FA after this year, one would have to ask whether or not the Astros will be able to afford him with the money problems the Stros have that we keep hearing about.
  3. Where is MPeel when we need him. I believe if a player still has "options", he can be optioned/sent to the minor leagues without having to go through waivers. It's when a player is out of options that he must be placed on waivers to send him down. If I am misinformed, please staighten me out.
  4. I think it would be Patterson. (plus at least 2 arms)
  5. I'm too lazy right now to look these things up so help me out. What kind of year is Gonzalez having and what is his contract status? IF he is doing better than what we currenty have in LF and IF his remaining contract is not too far out of line with the production he is giving this year and IF the Cubs decide they still want to make a run at the playoffs this year, then is Gonzalez someone worth pursuing? Would the Cubs have a package that might interest the DBacks, perhaps one that includes Patterson? EDIT: Did some checking. He is hitting .286/.380/.453 in 311 AB w/11hr and 50rbi. He also has 49Ks to go with 44 walks
  6. And according to an article on Cubs.com, Pie will be on the shelf for at least another week and probably longer. They discovered a bruised bone in his ankle while he was rehabbing with a sprained ankle
  7. The article says the Reds trade Dunn only if they receive a top young pitcher in return. Do ya'll thing Mitre fits that description? It may take Williams to get a deal done. So is Williams and Mitre too much?
  8. Not in either of the sessions I attended that featured them. But I missed the manager/coaches session, and my friend who took notes for me had to leave before it was over. Anyone? I was there for that entire session and I heard nothing said about CPat playing left. Then again, I was so stunned by wavin Wendall saying he aims to be correct 98% of the time that I would have missed Babe Ruth walking into the room.
  9. I didn't make it back for the last day. Commuting 1 hr. from my brother's house in Joliet was just too much, and I wasn't real pleased with having to pay the Hilton $23.00 each day for parking. All in all I had a great time, especially since I got to do it with my dad who was recently diagnosed with lung cancer. I'm not sure I would do it again but you never know. Ironically, we spent the day downtown anyway. We took my 4 1/2 yr. old daughter to the Sears tower and Navy Pier and she had a great time. This was her first trip to Chicago and she got to take her first el and her first cab ride. We also ran into Mickey Morandini (sp) at the Billy Goat in Navy Pier and I got to talk to him. He and his wife were very friendly but I didn't have a pen so I didn't ask for an autograph. Back to SC tomorrow afternoon. A special thank you and a big hug to my wife back in SC who went through the trouble of getting us the passes on e-bay. I can't wait to get home to thank her in person.
  10. Just got back from day 2. Much better things today. Started w/meet the new Cubs, panel discussion w/Lee, Barrett, Hawkins, Todd, & Todd. I asked the FAs the question whether or not they read the various fan message boards and, if so, did the fan comments have any bearing on them choosing to come to the Cubs. Basically they all said they try to stay away from the media and stuff like that because one bad comment amoung 100 good comments will stick in their memory. Next was meet Dusty and his staff--Larry, Sarge, Pole, and Wendell. Most memorable comment was Grudz is the 2nd baseman, Walker was not promised anything. Walker will be given time at 2nd, 3rd, left, and 1st. Sounds like he will be the new supersub. Last thing was panel discussion with Fergie, Billy Williams, Stoney, Chip as moderator, Sutcliff, and Banks. Talked some about Pete Rose situation, steroid use in baseball, money aspect, the pitching staff. Didn't get any autographs, lines way too long. Got some great pictures of the players and coaches on all the panels, and got a picture of Jose Cardinal signing autographs. Got to meet posters Mark Kangas, Ernie59, and BillHands. Depating on whether to got back for the final day. All in all a great convention. Paul
  11. Hey all. Don't have anything much to add. This is my first convention and I am a bit overwhelmed by the number of people in attendance. My best observation is organized chaos. I'm with my dad who is 73 years old and we are commuting everyday from Joliet. I'm going down by myself this morning and then hooking up with him and my brother & sister-in-law and my daughter at Bergoff for lunch, then dad and I will do some more convention things this afternoon. This is his first convention as well. Would love to meet some of you guys but have no idea how to find you without standing in the hall with a sign on my chest. Got some good t-shirts for $10.00 each. Also got a good picture of Fergie at his book signing. Enjoyed the 1st day and looking forward to a better 2nd day. Paul
  12. Ata boy Hoops! Looking forward to seeing you at the convention.
