  1. My guess is the Cubs give Quade the job on a 1 year deal, keep him on a short leash, and then replace him w/Rhino if/when the team starts to suck.
  2. For the ones who are complaining about the Cubs taking Simpson in the draft, are you complaining about WHEN the Cubs drafted him or that he WAS drafted by the Cubs? That's my first question. My second is can anyone tell us how often 1st and 2nd round pics pan out and actually make it to the bigs and have decent or better careers? My guess is that the draft is/can be pretty much a crap shoot, and often even so called "can't miss" prospects never do pan out. So drafting diamonds in the rough or lesser known prospects is, from a financial standpoint, perhaps the wiser MO to take. Just a thought...
  3. Obviously depending on contract, but what would be wrong with that? Especially a 1 year deal which still leaves us a chance to get Gonz/Fielder Why would Konerko sign a one-year-deal after the year he's having? Right. Kind of my point as well. Weird fear to have for us to sign Konerko for 1 year to play first. And I agree that Konerko is having a very good year and could do just fine as a 1 yr. stop gap if the Cubs then plan to make a play for Gonz or Fielder the next off season. My fear is them doing that, which I think is a pipe dream, instead of signing Dunn this off season taking care of 1B for the next 3-4 yrs.
  4. My fear is that the Cubs may target Konerko for 1B as a 1 yr stop gap. :?
  5. As CCP said, our 1st round pick is protected so we'd only lose a second rounder for signing Dunn. Also, the Nats reportedly wanted Gordon Beckham for Dunn, I don't think they're going to take a lesser deal from the Cubs. We'd be looking, probably, at one of Vitters/Castro/B Jackson/Cashner being the key in a trade, I'd think. I'd rather give the second round pick. but in free agency, the Cubs will have to bid for Dunn against every other team that wants/needs him. If they can get him via a waiver claim, they and they only will have the opportunity to work out a deal with the Nats. If they want him that bad, that sounds like a more ideal situation to acquire him.
  6. While that's true, it's not going to happen it appears. Maybe he needs another tractor. but he could get gonorrhea from a tractor
  7. considering Lee is still in his mid 30s age-wise, I would think he'd be more inclined to be seeking 1 more multi-year deal on the FA market instead of accepting arbi from the Cubs to play for another year. If he accepts arbi and has another mediocre year, he can just about kiss goodbye any chance at another multi-year deal. But being just 1 year removed from a better season than this one, more teams may think he can still produce fairly well and offer a 2-4 year deal. thoughts?
  8. Gamecocks winning it all makes up for alot of heartache I've endured being a lifelong Cubbie fan! Congrats to Ray Tanner and the team!!! =D>
  9. If Byrd is traded, it better be because the Cubs plan to draft Jackie Bradley, Jr. next year! :D
  10. Colvin watch: in 45AB he has 13 hits, 6BB & 12Ks. His line is now .289 .365 .600 also good to see Theriot's numbers go up: in 110AB he has 39 hits, 7BB & 17Ks for a line of .355 .390 .400
  11. Colvin watch: he was 1 for 3 again wednesday with another BB and no Ks. cubs.com now has his line as .325 .413 .675 but I think those states do not include yesterday's game.
  12. Isn't that 70/125 over 500 AB's? I'd be positively euphoric if he could keep that up. or was that a green font thing? No green font thing intended. What ratio of BB/K is considered acceptable? Obviously more BBs than Ks is what every player would like to have but I always assumed a ratio around 50/50 is acceptable. League average for an outfielder is around 2 strikeouts for every walk. If Colvin stays around that average number he'd probably be a fantastic player as he has good average potential and good power potential. His struggle is always going to be to try to keep that strikeout to walk ratio from being horrible in order to maximize that ability to hit for average and power. Thanks for the info CCP. Then I stand corrected since his BB/K ratio is right around league average right now.

  14. I'm not sure where you're getting those numbers but they're wrong. Got them from Cubs.com and just noticed the page says Monday April 26 so don't know if these stats include Monday's game.
  15. Colvin was 1 for 3 last night plus a walk. His line is now .333 .414 .722 in 36 AB. He only has 5 BB to go with 9Ks. His BB/K ratio obviously needs to get better.
  16. So do you advocate trading Colvin now while his value, perceived or real, is high or keep him? If it's the later and Fukudome is the RF, where does Colvin play? If someone wants to be insanely dumb and give up something of value for Colvin, then go ahead. Otherwise just keep him as he is now. His future is a 4th OF, and since he doesn't offer much defensively it's nice that his bat has started hot. There hasn't been much fluky about his performance either, though that doesn't mean it's necessarily going to continue. Part of the reason I brought it up is I got a chance to see Colvin play in college whenever Clemson played SC and I was always impressed with him.

  18. Is this sudden surge in the offense over the last 3 games the bats finally awakening or just crappy Brew Crew pitching? And is Tyler Colvin for real? Is he playing at or above everyone's expectations? Is he one of the outfielders of the future for the Cubs or is he more useful in a trade now? discuss.....
  19. Hope that Theriot has a good to very good year and then include him in the package. Does SD need a SS?
  20. if they miss the playoffs by 1 game then every loss is meaningful. a loss is a loss, no matter if it happens in the first week or the last week of the season.
  21. And I thought my 3.5 hour drive back to Columbia was bad!
  22. Bad game all around after the first inning and then blown call. Sat in that section of the outfield right where that play happended and it was clear the ball was dropped. Was certain after the ump conference the call would be overturned but no such luck. And the Braves fans were absolutely brutal. Trash talkin drunks and just being obnoxious toward some of the Cubs fans. It was a long ride back to Columbia after that game...
  23. Planning on taking my 11yr old daughter for her b-day opening day. Been to Turner once. Lots of tickets available on StubHub. Is that a good place to buy them? Where are you sitting?
  24. And u also have to figure in he may want some incentive (extension) to waive his ntc.
