  1. I think it has a good chance to be above average now. If Marmol can get his control back, the he, Gregg, Ascanio and Guzman are pretty good - especially considering the low cost across the board. Would we have the prospects - and would the upgrade be worth the cost - to acquire a young, cheap pitcher like Soriano or Bell? They aren't young. Soriano is 29 and Bell is 31. Plus I don't see why the Braves would trade Soriano. They're only 4 games back in the division and even closer in the WC race. Their pitching looks really good. If they trade for a big bat they might be the best team in that division.
  2. He already announced his retirement a few months ago. There was a thread on it.
  3. It's too bad he didn't get Lilly and Meche like he wanted
  4. I think 'most' is pushing it. I don't see how he's been better than Cueto, Haren, Lincecum, and Johnson. I guess you could make a case for the other three though. He's still been great. I think he's been better than Cueto. ERA is pretty much the only stat where he's better than Lilly. Fewer baserunners, missing more bats, etc..
  5. Dempster gave up the second run after he should have been pulled
  6. so apparently harold thinks walks don't count if they occur because the hitter is so good that the pitcher doesn't give him much to hit. awesome
  7. It's not odd. It's a tiny and useless sample size. It's 12 at-bats guys. 12.
  8. Damn, thats like us losing Aramis, Soriano, Lee, Harden, Dempster, and Marmol all at once, and of course, its all just in time to face the Cardinals. not really . maine, perez, and putz have all been crappy this season.
  9. guys keep in mind that bonds walked 232 times in 2004
  10. he definitely does it with zambrano too. yet he does the exact opposite with lilly. he'll pull him early when he's cruising. it makes no sense
  11. unbelievable lou. wtf. and now after back to back smoked balls he leaves dempster in with 118 itches to face chipper. oh and now the second run scores. good thing we gave up one of out last 9 outs in a one run game so we could get dempster back out there inexcusable
  12. ERA+ is about as flawed as ERA. Lilly has been better than most of the pitchers that are ahead of him on that list
  13. dude has been ridiculous since the beginning of may. i thought for sure he was done.
  14. I can't believe Lee's OPS is up to .851
  15. actually i'm pretty sure they plan on going with jerry angelo as the number 2 qb
  16. i don't care who said it, i'm just glad another player finally said something about it. i'm sick of this clown coming in with a 3 run lead against the nationals and acting like he achieved some badass accomplishment when he doesn't let them tie it in one inning.
  17. well there's no way ths is getting done by the deadline. i'd be happy if it was done before 2010
  18. from bruce- http://blogs.dailyherald.com/node/2141 and from gordon wittenmyer http://www.suntimes.com/sports/baseball/cubs/1628193,CST-SPT-cubnt18.article damn, this ownership situation is going to kill us this season
  19. i don't even care if we don't need him or if he might not be that good. pedro in a cubs uniform would be awesome
  20. it was already an excellent deal when it was only gameday and the game audio. now video and at the same price? amazing. i can't believe there isn't any kind of monthly fee. 9.99 for all that is a ridiculously good deal hopefully it works as smoothly as the audio feature does
  21. not really. moving soriano from leadoff isn't going to make the other guys hit.
  22. didn't derrek lee have one that lasted like 10 PA in 04?
  23. Lee has been outstanding over the last month and a half.
  24. i think he'll turn it around this time, but this is a huge slump. his overall numbers went from awesome to completely mediocre in like a week or 2. hopefully he'll pump them back up quickly with a hot streak
  25. i just don't think he's that good. he has horrible patience, doesn't really hit for power (he showed some pop in the minors at times but only has 16 home runs in almost 1200 major league at-bats), and isn't a big base stealer. so far in his major league career he's been juan pierre with less speed and a little more power. i think he's going to rely on hitting for crazy average if he wants to be anything more than like a .750 OPS guy.... unless he starts hitting for more power. he's not a bad player or anything... he has good minor league numbers. the problem is he'd cost a lot... wayyyy more than he's worth imo i just would like hendry to try and stay away from guys with horrible disicipline. the organization has gotten a lot more OBP friendly over the past couple years and i don't want to start sliding back the other way
