Very tough choice for me... ASSUMING health, it would be tough to not go after someone as dominant as Harden, but I don't agree the Cubs offense is fine. It's been mentioned ad nauseum, but Fuku in the 2-hole (or even led-off) makes the most sense, & Greene in the 5-hole would make that a realistic possibility. Greene would be my choice

I think Cintron's suckage issues & Cedeno being out of options [i'm pretty sure] says more than anything else.. Having said that, I'd still rather Cedeno be given an extended shot at SS than watching Theriot do what we all pretty much know he will do.....suck

I think Soto will be "fine" long term, but he's gonna look like a rookie much of this year. I think many people's expectations of him are a bit unrealistic. But as you say, aty least he shows patience...I think that bodes well for him. :shrug: I'm much more worried about Theriot & Pie, and it's not just b/c of today...I'm hardly the Lone Ranger on these concerns

Um, no, sorry. Skin color has nothing to do with it. No, really, it doesn't. "Gritty" (usually white, fast, high-effort & smallish) players do tend to get a lot of fan-love. Don't forget intelligence a.k.a "high baseball IQ".... So-called underachievers are typically the "toolsy" guys, not the supposedly intelligent ones, as if intelligence is somehow the sole province of the gritty overachiever, & we know the skin tone of those usually deemed intelligent. Sorry; that will be the only time I will post anything race-related on this forum.

That doesn't mean anything. You still have to replace those players, in addition to replacing what you thought you were paying Soriano for in the first place and will never get. Soriano's contract will hurt, there's no point in sugarcoating it. The fact that Lee and Ramirez might not be here for the last couple years does not change that. Yeah... The Cubs will find numerous other ways to waste money well before the end of Sori's contract.

Exactly. They contacted Hendry, not the other way around. If they want bullpen help, we can help them with that. If they need some salary relief to go along with bullpen help, we can help them with that as well. The salary relief allows them to spend even more to fix their pen. But, if Renteria is untouchable to Detroit, there's really nothing more to talk about. "Good luck, I hope you find the bullpen help you need from someone else." Darn....it's too bad the Cubs didn't have a talent like Perez to shop to the Tigers! Hendry better hope Theriot plays as well as he thinks he's going too because leaning on Soto and possibly Pie as well worries me quite a bit. This really worries me too; counting on Therior is going to wind up being a big mistake, IMO. Combined w/ yet unproven players in Soto & Pie...well, the bottom half of the order (except for Theriot who it appears will be batting in the 2-spot for some ungodly reason) could be brutal. I'm guessing the Cubs will struggle to score runs, barring a couple trades.

Isn't this an argument FOR Kerry Wood as closer? As the closer, he'll have the whole half inning to warm up and he'll know exactly when he's coming in, unlike Howry or Marmol who may be summoned at a moment's notice.

it shouldn't matter, the other guy is better. you keep saying it, but i haven't seen you try to prove it. i know, because i don't really know how to prove it. My ASSUMPTION is that Dusty would prefer the HR guy, therefore, the correct answer is the OBP guy... It doesn't get anymore scientific than that.

Whats the over under on # of pages after the trade is actually announced (if its ever announced)...my guess is that it woudl be suprisingly little...I mean...seriously, how much more can be said about Brian Roberts? It can be argued there hasn't been much actually said about Roberts in this thread (just the same repetitive stuff)...pretty much everything else has been discussed, however...
