  1. Anybody think Marquis looks like Joaquin Phoenix without the little lip clef thing?
  2. It's official. http://chicagosports.chicagotribune.com/sports/baseball/cubs/cs-061205sandberg,1,284260.story?coll=cs-home-headlines
  3. Alfonso was obviously a bit nervous in this introduction. Not very comfortable with speaking English. His family needed to look happier though, they just hit the jackpot.
  4. "Alou spelled backwards is Uola...what the heck is a Uola?"
  5. Joe Randa had a solid career, .284 hitter with 123 HR. He also made $22,000,000. That might be the most sad part. His teams were a combined 835-1,076 in 12 seasons. He was only on one winning team, the 2003 KC Royals (83-79). How must that feel playing 12 seasons and finishing 4 games above .500 once?
  6. Not needed in baseball. I'm not sure about that. I thought the Cubs interviewed Listach solely to comply with that standard. What a stupid rule, if true. Why should you be forced to interview someone you have absolutely no intention of hiring just because they are a minority? It's a waste of time and sort of demeaning to the person being interviewed I think. "Thanks for coming in Pat, but you are really only being interviewed because you're black and we have to do it."
  7. Drop Norwood for God's sake.
  8. Jerry Krause no longer works for the Yankees and is now working for the Mets' organization. Good thing I didn't bring up the Yankees then I guess.
  9. I sat next to Jerry Krause at the game last night and I begged him to have the Yankees trade for Glendon. I think Jerry might have a soft spot for Glendon...they are very similar in stature.
  10. I hope Arizona is eating part of the deal...otherwise I wouldn't call picking up a guy with a 10+ mil contract who is slugging .429 a "solid move" If you can win a World Series, who cares.
  11. I don't really like your comment there. Why should Dusty mention Pierre? He had the biggest jump I've ever seen and KNEW he would make it. Sure, attempting to steal 3rd with 2 outs is never a genious situation, but if you can easliy take a base, take it! Theriot on the other hand, had an awful jump and made a dumb move.
  12. There is a picture that's often been posted on this board of a Cardinals fan with a sign misspelling it as moran. Any time you see it spelled that way on this board, it's a reference to that picture. Correct. I figured since talking about Pujols, why not throw that in there.
  13. "This guy just loves playing at Wrigley. He's gonna hit 3-4 HR's every series." What has this guy been watching? Pujols now has 14 career HR's (189 AB's) at Wrigley (4th most at a visiting park, but we are in the same division), today was his first this year. I would hardly call that 'loving' Wrigley Field. Career .275 Hitter @ Wrigley. Moran.
  14. Next Year's Value: 1. Hill 2. Marshall 3. Guzman 4. Marmol Trade Value: 1. Marshall 2. Hill 3. Marmol 4. Guzman My LT Value: 1. Marshall 2. Guzman 3. Marmol 4. Hill
  15. I will also say Marmol has the greatest 'upside'. I think that Rich Hill is our best bet for next year. However, I don't believe Marmol will ever reach his potential because of control issues. And because of his age compared to Hill's, I say Marshall will have the best career numbers.
  16. ??????? When you're 4 games above the last place team (read Second to last) and playing out the string too, let me ask you how you've been doing playing at the level of other teams???? i think he might be referring to the last 10 games or so. Cubs took 2 of 3 against the Mets, and then swept the Cardinals. Other than that, they have pretty much sucked. So that's why you're still 4 games up on us. We've been playing decently ourselves since the break. Get lost.
  17. I'd rather have Izturis than Cedeno, yes.
  18. Ok, here is my 2007 team...realistic enough?? Here's my lineup: 1. Dave Roberts - CF 2. Mark Grudzielanek - 2B 3. Derrek Lee - 1B 4. Gary Sheffield - RF 5. Aramis Ramirez - 3B 6. Michael Barrett - C 7. Jacque Jones (because I have to) - LF 8. Cesar Izturis (because I have to) - SS Bench: Henry Blanco - C Matt Murton - OF Neifi Perez (because I have to) - IF Craig Wilson - 1B Frank Catalanotto - UTIL Starting Pitchers: 1. Carlos Zambrano 2. Jason Schmidt 3. Mark Prior 4. Brad Radke 5. Sean Marshall Bullpen: RHP - Bob Howry RHP - Michael Wuertz RHP - Ryan Dempster RHP - David Aardsma LHP - Scott Eyre LHP - Will Ohman Closer - Kerry Wood
  19. I'm sure this has been discussed before, but I'll post anyways. I am a big Jason Schmidt fan and always have been when he's healthy. But, does anybody think that Wrigley Field just isn't the right place for him to pitch being a fly ball pitcher? Granted, I understand that the wind always blowing out is a myth, but like we all know there are days when it can just suck to pitch there. Is that enough of a concern to take into account and not offer that much $$ to Schmidt, or is he still worth it?
  20. 2B I would rather have than Todd Walker: Utley, Figgins, Uggla, Weeks, Phillips, Durham, Iguchi, Roberts, Freel, Barfield, J. Lopez, L. Castillo, Giles, Biggio, Loretta, Polanco, Vidro, Grudz, Kinsler, Kent, Cano, Cantu. THAT is what I mean by mediocre.
  21. How do you figure a waste? Todd Walker is very mediocre 2B (average fielding at best, little power, no speed, .280 hitter). What do you think they could get for him? He came into the league as a 3B with the Twins and they have Barfield at 2B. My guess is they figure they have nothing to lose putting him at third.
  22. Hansen maybe? I know he's considered a 'top guy' as well...but he isn't contributing to the big club like Lester is right now. At least they could afford that move on a 2006 basis.
  23. I think you're right. Boston needs pitching badly and the addition of Jones over Crisp just wouldn't make up for the loss of Lester.
  24. What happened to this guy? Obviously could be a solid pickup for someone next year if he can get his act together and stop giving up the HR ball.
  25. For Cordero, Nix and Mench. Good riddance from the NL Central and killing the Cubs. http://sports.espn.go.com/mlb/news/story?id=2532418 I don't really know how to use the URL thing, so I'm not sure if that worked or not.
