  1. How did that FG go through? That looked awful and like it was going to be 10 yards short. Plus it bounced at the feet of someone just behind the uprights. Hindsight is 20:20 but should Bama have just run the ball on 3rd and 10 to kill the clock and kick the FG with 3 seconds left? You’re not getting that much closer with 20 seconds left. Tennessee might still call a timeout but then they only have one left.
  2. You mean the PI on the pick? I thought it was a little soft but the right call. Bailed out a bad throw though.
  3. Yeah, I don’t know what took so long. They showed the sequence of events on the broadcast and the review still took at least another minute. They were verifying that he was short on 4th down too but he was like a full yard short so even that should have been quick.
  4. He looked past the Twins winning 73 games last year so think we’re okay. Signing with a 73 win team worked out pretty well for Jon Lester.
  5. I would think the mid season World Cup is worse because the club games are condensed even more than they normally are. For example, after the most recent international break, each of the English teams that’s in Europe had a scheduled game each weekend and midweek from Oct 1/2 through Nov 12/13.
  6. Talking about safety issues acknowledges safety issues which probably makes it some kind of legal bs, maybe? You just say something how you’re listening to the players and think it’s better for their recovery to not play one game only four days after another game. Say you think it’s better for the product on the field too (which would be true) since you’re giving teams more time to prepare.
  7. Is there a good reason the NFL doesn't just add an extra bye week/extra week of the season and just give the bye to the two teams playing on Thursday the following week? You don't add any extra games and instead, you're actually giving the players more rest. Plus you get an extra week of ad revenue because you have an extra weekend of football. Like it seems like such an obvious win-win for the NFL since they make more money while they can talk about how they care about player safety and not making them play a game on three days rest, regardless of whether or not they actually care. And while I'm sure the players would resist a bit for something in return, it shouldn't be that big of a deal to them either. We've been complaining about how awful and sloppy these Thursday games are for years now and there's an easy fix just sitting out there.
  8. They’ll attach the two picks they refused to over the summer. 2027 and 2029 I think it is. Westbrook is an expiring so they’ll look at it like paying $20M or whatever the prorated will be for two picks. And If nobody does take him they’ll just cut him if things are going poorly.
  9. He also had a hilariously bad defensive possession last week against the Kings (I think) which under normal circumstances I’d brush off as it just being preseason except that type of thing is the norm for him now. 0% chance he last the year there.
  10. nothing will ever top 2016, once i came to terms with that it got easier in my life i've gotten the bulls dynasty the blackhawks quasi-dynasty (including the riveting game 6 comeback) the 2016 cubs comeback there's really nothing left for me to experience The Bears having a league average quarterback?
  11. Barcelona is out unless they win out and Inter doesn’t win a game. If Inter wins one, they’ll be on 10 points with the tiebreaker over Barcelona.
  12. Ben Simmons in regular season form already. [tweet] [/tweet]
  13. They don't? No, they don't. Regardless of what the spend, any number of teams can spend more. They could have a payroll with a luxury tax and, theoretically, a dozen teams or more could still spend more than them. I get your point, as being in the neighborhood of Top 5 means their payroll will be high. They just don't control the place standing. Maybe stating a percentage of the salary cap would be a better measure. I mean, they easily could control having a top-5 payroll if they really wanted to.
  14. Mbappe wants to leave PSG reportedly because his relationship with the club has broken down. It’s really too bad these guys are stuck at clubs with no option to leave OH WAIT he was a free agent less than 6 months ago and chose to stay with PSG.
  15. Lowest amount of yards in a 4 TD game? 25 yards with 4 TDs is hard to do.
  16. Messi's 2011-12 is the gold standard for goal scoring. He had 50 goals in La Liga, 3 in the Copa del Rey, 14 in the UCL and 6 in the Super Cups/Club World Cup. In total he had 73 goals for Barcelona in 60 appearances. I hope Haaland stays healthy this year for the same reason I wanted guys like Messi or Trout to stay healthy. I want to see what kind of numbers they can put up at their peak. Messi scored 91 in 2012 calendar year. 91. Previous record, as best I could find, was 85. Wikipedia has the single calendar year top-3 since 2011 and the joint second place is Ronaldo (2013) and Lewandowski (2021) with 69. Like you said ... 91.
  17. There’s also this [tweet] [/tweet] So Willy’s coming back then. Thanks for the info, Bob!
  18. I’ve heard this story before about Bama. They’ll win by 14+
  19. Pujols’s line this year was completely propped up by him destroying lefties and yet the Cards batted him 2nd against Wheeler and Nola. That’s obviously not what cost them the series but it’s a baffling decision.
  21. Florida St down 2 and in FG range and they try to throw a corner route just short of the end zone from like the 20 and it got picked. Don’t know if WR ran the wrong route or if the QB overthrew it but WTF are you doing throwing the ball in that situation? Just run it or throw safe passes.
  22. The Broncos gave up 1st and 2nd rounders in each of 2022 and 2023 and guaranteed Russ $161M and Russ might not be good anymore.
  23. Two of the players the Cards gave up for Marcell Ozuna were Sandy Alcantara and Zac Gallen. Ozuna was coming off an age 26 season of 5.6 bWAR and a .924 OPS and I have no idea how Alcantara and Gallen were regarded as prospects so this isn't an "LOL Cards" type of post (because the Cubs have Cease/Eloy for Quintana) but I just didn't remember who they sent to Miami in the trade.
  24. This year was the fourth time we've had 4 teams lose 100+ games. Three of those were the last three full seasons (so 2019, 2021 and 2022). Prior to the 2017 season, there were only 5 seasons where 3 teams won 100+ games in the same season. It's happened each full season since then with two of those (2019 and 2022) where we had 4 100+ win teams. We nearly had a record 5 100-win teams but the Yankees lost their last two games and finished with 99 wins.
  25. Mike Trout missed 43 games this year and still hit 40 home runs. Really sucks he hasn't been able to stay healthy. He played 157+ games each year from 2013-2016 but has maxed out at 140 in the 5 normal seasons since. Only played in 120 games twice in those five seasons.
