  1. TCU might still get in over Bama in that scenario. Plus I wouldn’t be surprised if Ohio St still gets in over LSU leaving the SEC with only one team. In 2016, 11-2 Penn State beat an 11-1 Ohio State and won the Big 10 but got left out in favor of Ohio State. OSU had a win at Oklahoma that year and the loss was by 3 points. Meanwhile Penn St lost to an 8-4 Pitt team and was boat raced by 39 against Michigan, which is similar to LSU losing to Florida St and Tennessee this year. I think TCU would have to lose big for LSU to have a chance. Of course it won’t matter if LSU doesn’t turn it around tonight.
  2. I would say probably but it depends on the results. Assuming whoever wins today doesn’t get crushed by 25 next week then yes. I think the H2H win, especially if it’s Michigan winning at OSU, overrides a close loss next weekend in the Big 10 title game.
  3. I think it just allows them to bunker down a bit and make sure they don’t lose They'll bunker either way though right? They probably will considering England probably won’t lose. But if Wales wins and Iran-US ends in a draw then Eng-Wales-Iran are all on 4 points and Iran is out on GD.
  4. Unless England starts to rout Wales. Then tactics could change, pending the score in our game.
  5. Kind of interesting that even though Iran is ahead of us, that the Eng-Wales result matters to them but not to us. If Iran ties us, they're on 4 points with a -2 GD. If Wales wins, they're on 4 points with, at worst, a -1 GD and would go though. England would also be on 4 points and would have a better GD also.
  6. We were unlikely to score there anyway but just kick it into the box. So dumb to do what they did.
  7. Gio's alive!
  8. Meanwhile can someone figure out how to let Gio out of Gregg's jail?
  9. Solid half. Just need to find a finish now. This thing is there for the taking.
  10. Eff it let's go win this MFer.
  11. 98% of the attention Ronaldo is getting is over his temper tantrum and quitting ManU. Almost nobody is talking about Portugal winning the tournament or making the finals. It’s all Messi in that aspect. I can’t speak for her it would be fitting comment though.
  12. What a weird comment - you realize it's also Ronaldo's last world cup, right? Messi’s been getting way more attention than Ronaldo for a number of reasons in this World Cup which is where the comment came from.
  13. If Germany beats Spain they should be fine. They’ll beat CR so they’ll be on 6 points. If Japan beats or ties Spain, Germany is through. If Spain beats Japan, Spain will be through on GD. Then it comes down to GD between Germany and Japan. I like the odds of Germany going through in that scenario. They’re more likely to demolish CR than Japan is. Plus in this scenario Japan has to play a Spain team that needs to win to move on so Spain isn’t going to mess around. Of course Germany was in the same situation 4 years ago where, as the final group games played out, if they just won they’d move on and they lost to South Korea.
  14. Japan takes the lead in the 83rd minute over Germany.
  15. They were also two games away from breaking the record for longest unbeaten run by a mens national team. They still have a good chance to win the group really. I was going to watch this recorded but my cousin texted me the result at 6 AM . . . Poland and Mexico looked pretty hapless. Just have to win the next two games and hope Saudi Arabia doesn’t win a game, and if they’re even on points Argentina could still win the group over the Saudis.
  16. They were also two games away from breaking the record for longest unbeaten run by a mens national team.
  17. Did not expect to wake up to an Argentina loss.
  18. Doesn't it come down to goal difference? Am I missing something? I don't think a win against Iran is a given for either Wales or the US. I also am not sure England is ever going to not want to beat Wales. I didn’t mean to make it sound like Iran is just going to roll over and get 0 points. As for England-Wales, I think it matters if one of the teams needs to win and the other one is worried about not picking up stupid cards and avoiding injuries while playing it’s second string. Would be nice if we played before Wales-Iran because then we’d have a better idea on what to root for. And yes, first tiebreaker is overall GD and then next is goals scored.
  19. So assuming we lose to England, is the worst result from Iran-Wales a draw? England would wrap up the group if it’s a draw and they beat us which would mean they wouldn’t care at all about the last match. At least if Wales wins it requires England to care enough to not lose the last game. And if Iran beats Wales, then Iran will care about the last game against us since they could still advance. So I feel like Wales beating Iran 1-0 might be the best result for us. Then as long as England beats Wales, we’re basically in the round of 16 if we beat Iran, tiebreakers pending.
  20. Yeah. England is going to need a result in that game unless Wales tied Iran. They might not need to pour it on but they’re not going to want to risk a loss and a runner up spot. Meanwhile Iran might be eliminated already when we play them.
  21. LOL at that not being a card. Just absurd.
  22. Yeah, I want to see us at least sort of go for this. Don’t just be okay with a tie.
  23. I have to say that after watching Spurs under Conte the last few months, it’s really nice rooting for a team that actually tries to score in the first half! Great half. Got the goal we probably deserved based on the play.
  24. If goal difference matters when they play Oranje in the last group game, we could be in for a treat 8-) Who's going to score? Janssen? Yeah, I might be biased because both flamed out for Spurs but I don’t like for the Dutch that their two forwards are Janssen and Bergwijn.
  25. Denver would be 9-1 if they just scored 18 points in regulation in every game.
