  1. his standard 4-3 would have done the same thing. You beat me to that joke.
  2. The 2004 Expos don't have s*** on us. Much as I'm frustrated with this team too, watch the profanity. I know. I've seen other people do the same thing and I didn't think it was that big of a deal.
  3. I'm going to have to defend Jenkins on this one. I don't think this is one of his better columns, but he is a good writer. I generally enjoy reading his material. Obviously you aren't going to like everything one person puts out, but most of his writing is good.
  4. Uh, 3 runs is expecting a lot from the offense. Bonds will misplay a ball terribly in left leading to 2 of the 3  Bonds will be running after a ball, will slip and tear his knee to shreads.
  5. The 2004 Expos don't have s*** on us.
  6. A new manager can't make our guys hit. The offense is flat out pathetic. They aren't catching bad breaks, they just suck.
  7. 18. He's currently on pace for 85 HR's and 204 RBI's and a .330 BA. How pathetic. You would think the guy would at least hit .350.
  8. This is the reason I hate Steinbrenner. I don't mind that he spends $200mil on payroll because it's allowed. He's playing within the rules. But he is the only owner in the leage who would rip his team after one bad loss. It's one thing what Leyland did with the Tigers after they went on their losing streak. But what Steinbrenner is doing is just stupid. He needs to learn that sometimes he just needs to keep his big mouth shut.
  9. How do you explain the 80's, and early 90's? I don't see the point in using such absolutes. It's not remotely true. and really, how difficult is it to make the NBA playoffs? I wouldn't exactly call that a great accomplishment. Have the Mavs made it to the conference finals even? Cuban has done a lot to revive that franchise but making the playoffs in the NBA is quite different than doing it in MLB. That's an excellent point. They made it to the conference finals in the 2002-2003 season. But that's it. Every other year they lost earlier. If you took the top 8 in the NL, the Cubs would have made the playoffs in 2001 and 2004. That would mean 3 playoff appearances in 5 years and who knows what would have happened in the playoffs. The Dallas Mavericks have been slightly better than the Minnesota Timberwolves have been in the regard that the Mavs make it to the second round before losing and the T-Wolves lose in the first round.
  10. I'll second that. An owner who gets involved with the team and cares about winning. Why does everybody think the Tribune Company doesn't care about winning? I'm sure they don't care as much as the fans but I bet winning does matter to them. As for Cuban, why would he necessarily be a great owner? The last time I checked he has just raised the Mavericks pay roll and hasn't won an NBA title. Granted it's only been a few years, but what does he have to show for it? Everyone here wants a title and Cuban hasn't done that yet. I'm not saying he isn't a good owner, but under the criteria we are looking at (Championships), Cuban isn't fairing any better than the Tribune. Why do we need such a high payroll? Like somebody else said, signing the right players is the most important thing. I don't think you can call the Tribune reign a failure for going 25 years without a World Series when the Cubs as a whole have gone 97 years without a World Series. Suddenly 25 doesn't seem that long.
  11. Dear Chicago Cubs, I really don't care if you lose this game but please just score some runs. Lose 11-10 for all I care, just hit the ball. Show that you can hit better than a Rookie Ball team. Let's just end this offensive futility. We can work on that winning thing another day. Thank you. Sincerely, soccer10k
  12. Wow. That answers my question as to if any other team has ever been as anemic offensively as the Cubs have during this current stretch.
  13. I think just about anybody can hit lefty pitching better than Jacque has this year.
  14. Bonds is going to hit 714 today. I predicted it during today's game but I figured I should do it here as well. Z is going to challenge him and is going to make a mistake and Bonds will take him deep. I don't want it to happen but I think it will.
  15. Naw. We got DA BEARS starting in the fall!!! So you're looking forward to the inevitable Rex Grossman injury?
  16. The only people I know of who were touting 2006 as "the year" were people who said, "Red Sox in 04, White Sox in 05...so it's gotta be the Cubs in 06!" I always thought that those people were deranged or delusional, or both. This team, even without the Prior, Wood, and Lee injuries, would be lucky to make the playoffs. Guilty. Although I said it in more of a joking manner and I wasn't really serious about it.
  17. Being a Cubs fan causes depression.
  18. I'm calling Z giving up 714 tomorrow. He's going to want to challenge Bonds and I think he's going to make a bad pitch and Barry's going to hammer it. I sure hope not but I can see it happening.
  19. I think the reason for all the losses is the Cubs want to make sure everybody on NSBB gets the chance to start multiple game threads this year.
  20. I'm in. I'll bring my own beer as well. Can't have too much.
  21. Oh god, please don't scare me like that.
  22. Don't forget that everybody was raving about Chris Shelton during the first two weeks of the year but he has cooled off even quicker then he heated up. Since April 18, his last 20 games, he's hitting just .169 with 1 HR and 4 RBI's. People figured out his holes and I think the same thing will happen to Koronka. This could take longer because Koronka only pitches once every five days, but I think it's only a matter of time before he starts getting hit.
  23. Unfortunately, at the pace the Cubs are currently going, by the time June 10 rolls around they will surely have overtaken the Pirates for last place in the NL Central and, with a little luck, we'll have overtaken the Marlins for the worst record in the NL.
  24. Actually we have beat the Cardinals 4 times so far. One of the few highlights of the season.
  25. I'm surpised we're actually hitting over .200 in the last 7 games. Thats surprising.
