  1. I couldn't agree with you more. Marshall has been our second best pitcher so far this year.
  2. The only good thing seems to be that we are capitalizing on our opportunities. Hopefully when Lee comes back he can help out with the problem. The key right now is to do enough to not fall to far out of first place. We aren't going to have a second half like Houston did last year or Oakland has in years past so we have to stay close.
  3. I'm not really sure. I have noticed that what MPrior said is true that we do seem to take a lot of pitchers in the draft. Maybe we just have scouts that can recognize good pitchers but not good hitters. It does baffle me though.
  4. Just curious, who was talking about Walker not being a team guy? I know he received more than his fair share of criticism of his defense and people doubted whether he could actually play first base, but I don't remember any talk of him not being a team guy. I'm not saying your wrong, but I would like to be enlightened on this subject.
  5. I couldn't agree more. Good teams find a way to overcome injuries. Or good teams overcome injuries becuase they are built to withstand injuries. Choose freely. Losing Lee is not the same as losing Rolen. Losing Lee is equivalent to the Cards losing Pujols. They are not the same thing. Losing Rolen would be like losing Aramis. Lee is far more valuable than Rolen is. I still don't buy in that losing Lee will only cost the Cubs 2-3 wins this year. I'm think at least 5. This means the Mabry/Hairston/Neifi are going to play for 2 months. There is absolutely no way that substituting those three in for Lee would only cost the Cubs 2 games. Absolutely no way. That being said, if the Cubs end up with a record like 2005, then there is no excuse for losing. But if the Cubs miss the playoffs by a couple games, you can probably attribute that to Lee's injury. So based on how the Cubs finish this year should determine whether the "Lee got injured excuse" is valid.
  6. I would much rather have him bunt with Pierre on first than on second. Like somebody said during the game thread, when Pierre's on second, he's going to score on almost any ball hit to the outfield. There is no need to waste an out trying to get him to third. If there are no outs, you have three chances to drive him in with your 2-3-4 coming up. If he's on first then I could understand avoiding the DP, but there is no reason to bunt when he's on second.
  7. Cincy is extremely hot, and Griffey is still on the DL! Could they be for real? Highly unlikely. Give them another month or two.
  8. Please don't ever do that again. Take that over to a White Sox board.
  9. bold statement. I hope you're right. Especially since the last time we scored 7 or more runs was April 23 against St. Louis. Someone's channeling Fred. Actually I channeled ESPN.com's Chicago Cubs schedule.
  10. Carlos Classic plz. Can I have a mix please??? I could care less about his behavior on the field as long as he pitches well and wins games.
  11. So do you want to call him "Tall Smooth" then?
  12. bold statement. I hope you're right. Especially since the last time we scored 7 or more runs was April 23 against St. Louis.
  13. No, you're not. Terrible is coming into town tonight. The Pirates and the Royals are the only teams that are more than 10 games out of first place in their division already.
  14. Our home games at UC Davis are free for students. All you need is to show your registration card.
  15. Put me down for 25 per day. I'll see if I can do more. But I'll definately average at least 25 a day.
  16. Also, in 2003, Wood started 32 games, had a 3.20 ERA and a 1.19 WHIP yet he only won 14 games on a team that won their division. http://baseball-reference.com/w/woodke02.shtml I know other years he could have an excuse because the Cubs stunk, but what happened that year? He has no excuse.
  17. Its not that weak, even if he's dominant, he doesn't even give you the requisite starts to get over 15 wins. Exactly. Either he isn't good enough to win 15 games or he isn't healthy enough to win 15 games. Whichever way you go, there is a problem. And like I've always said, when you have guys that miss a lot of starts, no matter how good they are, their numbers are tainted when you average in all the bums like Rusch that take their place. Honestly, I would rather have a decent pitcher that will not miss a start than a great pitcher that is going to get injured all the time. And this is where srbin's point comes in. You have to factor in the replacement pitcher's starts into the equation. Sure Wood's ERA is great but take his ERA for 20 starts but add in 15 starts from Glendon Rusch, all of a sudden that ERA doesn't look so good anymore.

  19. I'm not going to lie. I wanted the Cubs to sign Furcal and was quite disappointed when the Dodgers outbid us at the last minute. I am pleased with Cedeno's progress and, as of now, happy that we didn't get Furcal. That being said, I think that many people would be a lot angrier about not getting Furcal if Cedeno was hitting .200 right now as opposed to .308.
  20. It lists Glendon Rusch on both ESPN.com and chicagocubs.com so I want to know if any information has come out on it yet? I suspect that it's too early but we should know something by Tuesday right? I hope Dusty and Hendry make the right move and bring up Hill. Marshall was brought up and pitched well, especially in his last start against Florida. Guzman had a respectable debut as well. Why not give Hill his shot?
  21. The Yankees getting coverage doesn't bother me that much because they are actually good. But when basketball people, whether it's on ESPN or TNT, start talking about the Knicks on every single telecast, it ticks me off. The Knicks suck. They are horrible and a complete train wreck. There is no need to talk about them all the time.
  22. That's a brilliant idea. I can just search our student directory for the name "John" and get a couple hundred email addresses.
  23. He probably just thought that since Patterson was fast, he would be a great leadoff hitter. That was a great idea.
  24. I would definately go to that game if I had the chance to. I'm feeling a 6-0 start.
  25. I agree. I can't give up on Prior yet. I've given up hope on Wood though. Seeing him leave wouldn't bother me in the least. I know he had the 20 strikeout game but he hasn't shown the ability to be healthy. Never mind the fact that he's not that great of a pitcher. He's above average but he's not that great. Come on, the guy hasn't even won 15 games in a season (14 is his career high). At least Prior had a Cy Young caliber season in 2003. Wood has had far too many things go wrong. Prior is still young. I think we should at least give him until the end of his contract. His trade value can't get much lower than it is right now.
