I can't hate the Cubs. I don't know why, I just can't. They would be the last of my favorite temas that I would ever give up on. I may not go out of my way to watch as many games as I can, but if a game is on, I'm going to watch. Of course, there are exceptions like Woody's first start (which I skipped class for) and I will probably do the same for Prior when he comes back. The difference from year to year is how much of an effort I make to watch the games. I may not agree with their moves, but players, managers, and management come and go but the Cubs as an organization don't go anywhere.

So he shouldn't be allowed to comment(read: Answer a pointed question) on the situation, which happened while he was pitching and he was about 10-20 feet away from? Just curious, how do you know what question he was asked? I'm not debating you, but if there is information you know that I don't, I would sure like to read it before arguing with you. I based by argument on what was posted at the beginning of the thread. We don't know the question he was asked. The point is, he was obviously asked about the incident, and claiming that he shouldn't comment on it just because he got hit hard is ridiculous. I didn't say he shouldn't comment because he got hit hard today. I meant that he shouldn't comment because he's been hit hard his whole, albeit short career. Hill was basically talking trash to Pierzynski which I don't think is right considering he's basically a rookie. He's the last person who should be talking trash. The fact that he was 10-20 feet from the play doesn't matter at all because Hill didn't offer any extra insight into the situation. To sum up Hill's quote: Pierzynski is bush league. I'm not saying that he shouldn't have said anything, but there is no reason to talk trash to the opposing team who, by the way, has just handily defeated your team two days in a row.

I'm going to have to agree with Guillen on this one because he hit it right on the head. Until Rich Hill does ANYTHING in the majors, he's not the right person to talk. Obviously Guillen didn't say it in the nicest of ways, but that isn't the point. Rich Hill is still a rookie. If he was a veteran, then I wouldn't have a problem with it. But the guy hasn't even won a game at the major league level yet. I like the enthusiasm out of Hill and I hope he does well in the majors - hopefully for the Cubs - but that doesn't change the fact that he should have kept his mouth shut.

I saw it on WGN and AJP was going after his helmet. His helmet clearly went behind Barrett. I'm talking about after Barrett decked Pierzynski. After that, both the ump and Podsednik got in the way of Barrett.

You seem to have missed the point. What happens if that ball gets cut off and Pierzynski still runs over Barrett? I don't see how it's much different because in both situations, Barrett doesn't have the ball. Yes, Barrett overreacted after he got steamrolled. But Pierzynski has to be held accountable for instigating everything. What if it does get cut off? Players are taught to blast a catcher who is blocking the plate, in an attempt to jar the ball loose. I don't think anyone is teaching the "just slide because the ball might have been cut off" technique. AJ's an ass, but he did what any other ballplayer would have done, including Barrett. Mike's just frustrated as hell right now, and I don't blame him. I appreciate that he still cares in the face of this travesty. If it does get cut off I'm sure many people on this board would be singing a completely different tune right about now even if Barrett decks Pierzynski. People would be talking about how classless it was for Pierzynski to run over Barrett when the ball wasn't even coming to the plate. I highly doubt that "any other player" would have bowled over the catcher. Are you telling me that Juan Pierre would try and run over a catcher in his way? Absolutely not. And please spare me the "Juan Pierre never get's on base and the Cubs couldn't drive him in anyway" spiel because I've heard it already (not directed at you Soul but the board in general).

My parents went to Vegas a few weeks ago, before the DLee injury, and my mom did put money on the Cubs to win the series. She did make other bets, but this was one of them.

I just saw the replays on Baseball Tonight. It seemed like Pierzynski wasn't going to get anything else. Not only did the umpire hold Barrett back but Podsednik got in his way as well. If anyone was saved from a beatdown, it was Podsednik.

I know it's not saying much, Brenly couldn't do any worse than Dusty. As for Stone, Billy Beane gives other GM's the impression he's ripping them off and yet GM's still trade with him. I'm not saying he would be a good GM, but that reason isn't correct.

I've been doing that for a while now. I'm dissapointed we won the Nationals series. There was a hope if we got swept by them and the Sox, some change might be made. I've given up hope on change being made during the season. I just don't think Hendry has the balls to fire Dusty. I think if anything that Dusty will not be resigned but unfortunately, I don't see him getting fired.

Barrett's being suspended isn't going to hurt the team much at all. The last time I checked, the Cubs have lost 17 out of 21 games. If you take Barrett off the team for that stretch, the most it would cost the team is 4 games, which isn't very much. I don't necessarily agree with what he did, I'm just saying that losing him isn't going to matter very much.

If catchers get run over all the time, how come the highlights aren't shown on SportsCenter and Baseball Tonight? Everybody knows that SC and BT would show the big hits, but I rarely see them. So where are all of these mysterious collisions you speak of?

He's not very smart because his team has been sucking, showing no life, his team is getting the crapped kicked out of them by the in city rival and he gets barrelled over and knocks the crap out of the person that barrelled him over? So Barretts a jerk, but AJ's not for slapping the plate like an idiot? I think it was great, Barretts the only one on this team that gives a crap. I've been in a few fights in my life so does that make me a jerk, Iq of about 50? What did you want him to do? If he just took it and didn't act like anything was the matter, people would be jumping on him cause he didnt' show any fire.. I don't get it.. 1. The rundown play. 2. The run-in with Oswalt. 3. The fight with AJP. 4. The incredibly dumb called pitches. 5. The impatience at the plate. 6. The quotes in the press. The guy is a dim-witted moron. So he hits 270 every year, big deal. He still sucks, and he is not a long-term solution, contract notwithstanding. Just curious. What were you saying when Barrett hit the grand slam to beat the Cardinals? Because I don't remember anyone saying anything that could be considered negative after he hit that bomb.

If he is interested, then if I were making decisions, I would do anything necessary to keep him around or at least not tick him off. Although with the way the Cubs are going, they'll screw this up and he'll go to some other team.
