  1. The Pirates are now at 12 losses. I think they could make it to 20 straight losses but I don't think they will.
  2. In 2004 LaTroy Hawkins blew 9 saves for a team that finished just 3 games out of a playoff spot. Dempster has blown 4 saves (if you extrapolate 8 or 9) for a team that's going to finish 20+ games out of first and make a run at the worst record in the league. Not much of a comparison if you ask me.
  3. No, they should have TRADED Hill, back when everyone in baseball was under the impression he was the real deal. (Wasn't he the most sought after Cub prospect this offseason?) Now they'll be doing their usual move of selling low. I'd rather see them give Hill one more shot to prove himself. (Though I have my doubts whether he'll ever be as good as Hendry seemed to think.) have you seen hill's numbers over the past month or so? he's been one of the two or three best pitchers in all of minor league baseball this year, and he's doing it in a great hitter's league. not every team in baseball is as short-sighted and impatient as you (or dusty baker), and they realize that a handful of bad big league outings doesn't mean the guy's career is over. hill still has a lot of trade value. and i wish they'd trade him. Agreed. Hill is tearing up the minor leagues right now and I wouldn't be opposed to giving him another shot at the ML level. As I said before with Guzman, the season is lost anyway so we might as well give Hill another shot if we're going to give Guzman another shot. I would tell each that they have 4 or 5 starts so they don't have to worry about having one bad start and being sent back down because of it.
  4. Kansas City is no longer the team we need to surpass for the worst record in all of baseball; Pittsburgh is. Unfortunately, Pittsburgh isn't cooperating; they're losing even more than the Cubs right now. Don't lose faith, eventually the Cubs will play the Pirates. That's what I'm hoping for. Pittsburgh helped KC get out of the cellar and now it's up to the Cubs to get Pittsburgh out of the cellar and themselves into it.
  5. At this point, I'll be content if Baker isn't extended. Obviously I would just like Hendry to fire Baker but since I doubt that is going to happen, I have to hope for the next best thing which is no extention.
  6. http://sports.espn.go.com/mlb/gammons/story?id=2118859 I only wish I could write a column/article like that. A great article for a great game. I have always respected, and will continue to respect, the contributions of Peter Gammons to the baseball world. Get well soon Peter.
  7. I hit acceptance a couple weeks ago.
  8. No, Dusty probably doesn't understand splits. But like TB said, those lineups would be good if the team was still in contention. But since they aren't, I would like to see Ronny and Murton sent out there every day to get more AB's against lefties and righties respectively.
  9. I agree that DLee should be in AAA right now. There's no reason for him to still be on the DL but he shouldn't be at the major league level yet. He's not ready.
  10. I just laughed because I knew the comeback was too good to be true.
  11. Read it and weep... http://chicago.cubs.mlb.com/NASApp/mlb/news/article.jsp?ymd=20060627&content_id=1526163&vkey=news_chc&fext=.jsp&c_id=chc <------- goes to get a box of tissue
  12. Can somebody post a link to the Hendry column?
  13. Ladies and gentlemen, you're 2006 Chicago Cubs.
  14. First they trade Hairston. Now they might DFA Womack. That's two second basemen gone in a month. What happened to Jim Hendry and where has he gone?
  15. Wow. Thanks for the numbers.
  16. In Pittsburgh's defense they did allow Kansas City to sweep them thereby allowing the Cubs to come within striking distance of the Royals.
  17. And a Zidane goal in extra time finishes the game. 3-1 France. Another disappointing early exit for Spain. And we'll have a rematch of the 1998 World Cup in the quarterfinals. We'll see if Ronaldo decides to show up this time. EDIT: A very entertaining game though.
  18. France takes a 2-1 lead. This should be an entertaining final few minutes. I hope Spain can get the equilizer.
  19. I'm a Raiders fan so I feel your pain.
  20. I think I'm one of the very few who thinks he'll do it in a Cubs uni. I hope you're right.
  21. Any doubt that Kerry Wood isn't going to have an All-Star season next year for another team just went out the window with this report.
  22. Eric Wynalda just said that Spain = Cubs.
  23. Agreed. I suspect we'll see another goal or two though seeing as both teams have had chances thus far in the first half. Good call, eh? Got that post in a minute before the goal. And Spain didn't get a second borderline PK call. Great end to the half. Oh yeah. And virtually no injury time as well. It appears we'll have an exciting second half on our hands.
