After a second look I think the Argentinian was onsides. But it's so close that it could have gone either way.

I'm looking forward to Argentina-Mexico and I think Brazil-Ghana could be surprisingly entertaining although with Essien unavailable to play (2 yellows) it might not be. France vs. Spain for me. That should be a good one as well.

That's a good point. There isn't anywhere else for Nevin to play and he's going to be resigned to a pinch hitting role. -

No offense, but I am NOT enamored with Carlos Lee. I mean if we go after Carlos, that would mean the Cubs are subscribing to the "mashers" theory again, and I don't want an offense to be built around the three run homerun. I want an offense, that can do it all. Hit for average/power, can run, can play both small and long ball. I haven't given up on Murton, and I believe he will still be a very good player. Didn't you learn from previous years that hitting homeruns wasn't the problem, it was the getting on base part of it. -
I don't really care about the White Sox that much and definately don't consider them to be our rivals. I did pull for the Astros in the World Series last year but that was because of the AJ Pierzynski situation more than anything but also because they beat the Red Sox. I also didn't want their drought to end. But if the Sox played the Cards in the World Series this year I would pull for the Sox no questions asked.

My thoughts excatly. Same happens to me. This is the reason why I don't want to trade with them unless we get an arm or a leg. Whenever a Sox fan talks smack to me, I just want to sock them in the face. That's how much I hate their fans. I also hate Cardinals fans. They are the most obnoxious people ever. Wanting to punch somebody who talks smack to you? About baseball no less? I'm no shrink but that's neither healthy nor normal. I want to sock people in the face all the time, but the fact that I have the self control not to makes me both healthy and normal. What is the situation though? Somebody verbally harassing you is one thing but somebody making jokes about your baseball team is completely different.

Wow. I have to agree with Marcelo Balboa. Neither of Lucic's two yellow cards were warrented. Both were fouls but he shouldn't have received either one. Maybe the first one, but definately not the second card. This game is over as Germany is up 2-0 and playing 11 v 10. Welcome to the second round.

Germany will likely have to get by Argentina first, which I'm not sure they'll do. A Brazil-Spain second round matchup could be entertaining as well.

My biggest fear is that Landon Donovan, at 24, has peaked as a soccer player because he refuses to go play in Europe. He is stunting his growth as a player by playing in the MLS and will never become the player he could be. If he grows some balls and goes back to Europe he has the potential to be a world class player and one that can take over a game. My fear is that if he stays in the MLS then what we saw in the World Cup this year is about the best we are going to see.
