  1. Maybe Raffy can talk to his juicing buddy Jose Canseco and get a contract with the San Diego Surf Dawgs. It would sure make their steroid deals easier to complete.
  2. That was an unbelievable month.
  3. I know there is a great joke in here somewhere, I'll have to get back to you though.
  4. I would ask Lou what he thinks of the walk and OBP. That's it.
  5. I have to say 0 out. That at least gives the team two chances to hit a sac fly. It also depends on whether the opposing team has the infield in. If we have a runner on third with the infield in, there is no chance we're scoring because they'll hit a grounder.
  6. Wow, longest game thread in almost 2 weeks. Good job everybody.
  7. http://sports.espn.go.com/nba/news/story?id=2506311 Thank you. Nothing was on either ESPN.com or CNNSI.com when I made my original post.
  8. Yes! Our Angel has come to save us! *crickets* Ok, lame joke, I know, but at least there's one less 2B on the roster that we have to worry about, though I would have felt much better if it said PEREZ officially DFA. Neifi, Womack. What's the difference? Neifi's OBP:.299; Womack's OBP: .342...not sensationally better; but better anyway. Womack gets on base more than Neifi or Pierre. Neifi: 2 years 5M And there is your difference.
  9. Argentina coach Jose Pekerman resigned following the defeat to Germany. Link
  10. I heard on SC a few minutes ago that the Bucks traded T.J. Ford to the Raptors for Charlie Villanueva. Anyone else hear this?
  11. It would be hard to differentiate between every team in the division being horrible and beating up on each other and every team being talented and beating up on each other. And as long as there is an unbalanced schedule you have to take the division winners. If they balanced the schedule out then it would be easier just to take the top 4 teams as every team would be playing on a level playing field.
  12. Germany beats Argentina 4-2 on PK's. Argentina's goalie didn't guess right at all and Lehman guessed correctly every single time.
  13. I don't know what Marcelo Balboa's obsession with the penalty kick shootout going all 11 kickers. I don't recall a shootout going more than 6 or 7. And he also thinks that the goalies will be the last to take the kicks, which isn't true either. They could be last, but they could be one of the first 5.
  14. Can we bring back Kyle Farnsworth for this series so he can plunk AJ Pierzynski and singlehandedly take out every member of the White Sox in the ensuing brawl? Is this possible?
  15. The Cubs will sweep the Sox on their way to winning 8 of 10 before the All Star Break paving the way for the inevitable DUSTY BAKER EXTENTION on Monday July 10.
  16. Where is the real Jim Hendry? As I said in another thread, he's traded one second baseman and now he's DFA another one. Next thing you know he's going to talk about OBP....ok, now I've gone too far. My deepest apologies.
  17. Klose scores and Germany have pulled even with 10 minutes to go. Riquelme and Crespo have both been taken out of this match as well.
  18. Argentina is going to have to bring in their backup goalie.
  19. I like that analysis. If you read this, great work Tim. Is he still doing this?
  20. Ayala strikes first for Argentina. 1-0. First time Germany has trailed in the World Cup.
  21. Tim's idea of the sliding scale is something I'd like to see use. He used to have a chart on this site (maybe he still does) where you could see how many disaster, mediocre, quality and great starts a guy had. A disaster start was when you gave up as many runs (earned or unearned, as innings pitched). 6 ip/ 3 r was still quality, but you got more credit for going 7/1 or 8/2. I would argue that a 6 inning 1 run outing is at least as quality as a 7 inning 3 run outing. That sounds like an interesting idea. If Tim still has it I would love to see it.
  22. Here Goony, I fixed it for you I did say that in my original post: But I have been corrected thanks to goony and some stats.
  23. There is no support for that argument. Nevin sucks right now. If you insist on talking about right now, you have to look at right now, and Nevin is doing nothing right now. He's playing against RHP and LHP, even though Murton hits better against LHP. Nevin has shown, conclusively, that he's not an everyday player. He's a bench player. The best way he can help the team is by coming off the bench late, and by occasionally starting. Playing everyday for 3 weeks is an incredibly stupid way to use an old man who has sucked for 2 years as a starter. Looked at the stats and I now agree with you completely - I didn't realize Nevin was hitting so poorly (that's what happens when you stop following the team as religiously). I could only make an argument to play Nevin against RHP (which I'm not going to because it's a tossup between the two) but Murton should, without a doubt, be the one to face LHP if Dusty wanted to implement a platoon. I still agree that Murton should be the everyday player and this makes me want Dusty to trade Nevin even more. Nevermind the fact that he's not part of the solution in the future but he's taking away PT from Murton as well.
  24. He came darn close to the QS today (was at 3 ER in 5.2 IP when he gave up the bloop single). Yeah, he did. That was a cheap hit. Unless it's Ichiro swinging the bat, I wouldn't assume anyone who gets such a hit was actually trying to do that. And as a side not, I always thought a QS was 7 IP/3 ER. I looked it up though, and you're right. They should change that. I don't necessarily think a 4.50 ERA is quality. It's ok, but I think my meaning of quality is different. I don't see much point in tracking average/mediocre starts as a stat. Sorry, that was kind of a rant. I agree. I think the QS stat is too arbitrary - you're giving someone who gave up 3 ER in 6 IP the same amount of success as someone who gives up 2 in, say, 7. I don't mind the quality start stat but I do agree with srbin in that I think it should be 7 innings. I don't mind 3 ER but the IP should increase.
