  1. World Cup Final! I wasn't planning on watching the game anyways Agreed. Thank goodness the World Cup is on. Now I won't have to resist any temptation to watch the Cubs game because there will be no temptation.
  2. The title should be "Zito signs with Boras to get even more money out of George Steinbrenner."
  3. LOL no problem reminds me of cubs.com message board I came from there. That's where I found out about NSBB. I try to contain myself here though. did they talk in all small letters at cubs.com too? It appears that way doesn't it? Couldn't resist.
  4. My vote makes it 24-0 GnR.
  5. Believe me, there are plenty of pot smoking Pantera fans as well. Maybe not as many as the Grateful Dead, but there are still plenty.
  6. I completely agree. Far more original than AC "32 albums, no ballads" DC But that's part of their appeal. You don't have to worry about hearing some crappy, sappy ballad in the middle of the album. One of my pet peeves for rock bands is the crappy ballad. If done right, it's good music. But if done wrong, it's absolutely horrible.
  7. I don't know if they are necessarily a three loss team easily in the SEC or ACC but we wouldn't be talking about them as a national title contender if they didn't play in the Big East. I'll give you that the could lose 3+ games in another conference but if you get the right schedule (re: 2005 Alabama) and play the right teams at home, your record will look better than your team is. The opposite also applies. I think the automatic BCS invitation is more likely to get revoked for a conference that always beats up on each other. I'm not sure the exact ranking but it's something like if your conference doesn't have a team ranked above a certain spot in the BCS (12 maybe?) a couple years in a row, you could lose your invitation. For the Big East, which is likely to have a team run the table or finish with 1 loss, they aren't likely to not have a team ranked that high. With the ACC, which has shown in previous years to all beat each other, this becomes more likely.
  8. I actually know a Packer fan who would be willing to take that bet, quite easily. Somehow a broken down Charles Woodson who never learned technique and some rookie LBs means division champs. Go Bears! Here's to a cakewalk NFC North title! Charles Woodson is unbelievably overrated and overpaid. The Packers can have him. I never understood why the Raiders kept making him their franchise player the last couple years. He was decent a few years ago but always gets injured now. Good riddence to him. Not that my Raiders will be much better (5-11 here we come) than the Packers.
  9. You need the Cubs to be shutout tomorrow to win.
  10. By far the shortest thread of the year. Previous was June 23 with Cubs (Marmol) at Twins (Santana) with 138 posts.
  11. Haha. I was thinking more along the lines of "don't you dare to get in my way EVER again", but yours works as well.
  12. I heard the same thing. It's not really surprising. I didn't buy into the whole "no structural damage" thing. If you are experiencing pain that forces multiple starts to be pushed back and then you have to go on the DL again, something structurally has to be wrong. Good bye Kerry.
  13. Agreed. This is the right answer. But assuming Jones is in the lineup anyway, there is no reason to be bunting in the fourth inning with anybody other than the pitcher. You have over half the game left. Just let Jacque swing away especially since he has a hot bat.
  14. The Cubs have given up the eighth most runs in the NL (which puts us right in the middle of the pack), tenth most in the ML. The Cubs are also DEAD LAST in runs scored in the ML by 31 runs (35 in just the NL). While both are a problem, we need a bat more than pitching. The pitching staff hasn't been horrible considering that 33 of the 86 starts have been made by players will little to no experience. Factor in the 8 combined by Prior and Wood and 8 more by Gopher Ball this isn't too bad. Marshall will have a full year under his belt next year. Marmol is getting starts as well and will be more experienced. Hopefully Guzman and Hill can get a few more starts so we can see if they can be relied upon next year as well. Prior has been looking better even though his record doesn't reflect this. The offense on the other hand has been downright pathetic. That's all there really is to say about it. The Cubs are 15th in the NL in ERA, lead the the league in walks allowed and HR allowed, our hitting is atrocious but you have to think that if all those numbers were a little better we would be in better shape. I think it's safe to say that we are both right the hitting is horrendous and the pitching isn't that good. Agreed.
  15. So the Cards dump Ponson but pick up Weaver. Kinda seems like a wash to me. The only difference is Ponson is fat.
  16. Yes they shall. They have my vote for the first round.
  17. That makes 3 #14 seeds I have voted for so far.
  18. I like both, but I like Rage more. Rage it is.
  19. Agreed. My vote goes to CCR.
  20. That would have been among the all-time saddest things to happen to Cleveland sports if LeBron had left. They might has well just gotten rid of the team completely if LeBron left. No use playing anymore if something like that would have happened. Imagine if Jordan would have left the Bulls in the late 80's? I'm glad for Cleveland that he stayed.
  21. Watching ESPN Classic this morning reminded me of another team that has a shot at the National Championship game: West Virginia. Their only loss last year was to Virginia Tech and they more than held their own against Georgia in the Sugar Bowl. They return Pat White (QB) and Steve Slaton (RB) as well as their top 2 WR's. They had a fairly young team last year. And they play in the Big East. Not saying they will, but I figured I would throw them out there since nobody has mentioned them yet.
  22. Weather? :sunny: Weather, whatever. Sunny if we win. KC won 11 out of 16. Another reason for hope. That's not a sign for hope. What good is 11/16 when you are still just 30-54? It's just a sign that any crap team can have short bursts of decent results, but they are still very likely to remain a crap team when all is said and done. I don't believe we have a crap team. What else can you call the 28th best team out of 30 in baseball, a team that has a much worse W-L percentage than a team with about an eighth of our payroll (Florida) and, if switched divisions with KC, would no doubt be 30th? Cubs are now only half a game away from the Royals. Still 3 away from Pittsburgh though.
