  1. It matters in the first two rounds, which is where all of the best talent is always concentrated. You still have to scout guys, but the odds of finding a future All Star are the greatest in those two rounds. The higher you are, the larger the pool you have to pick from. After that, matters become much more reliant on the scouting department. Obviously having a top pick will help you a bit, but a top 5 pick in baseball doesn't mean anywhere near as much as having a top 5 pick in basketball or football.
  2. NOBODY CARES, AGAIN!!
  3. Houston didn't play any of the other three 2005 AL playoff teams (NYY, BOS, LAA) so how do you know if the Astros are second best? The Red Sox and Angels also lost to the White Sox in the postseason and it is impossible to determine if the Astros were better than either of those two if the Astros didn't play either of them. I'm not saying that the Astros weren't the second best team just that it's impossible to determine if they were.
  4. But speedy Maddux is pitching too. Wonder who will win out...probably Trachsel. Especially since Trachsel will throw a complete game and Maddux will only go 5 innings.
  5. I think he's still holding out hope the team goes on a run and gets into some semblance of contention by the end of the month. However, I also think he understands the odds of that happening are pretty bad. It's going to be August before Hendry realizes the team isn't going to contend which will make it much harder to make trades to help the team in 2007.
  6. Jeez, can those two headlines be any more punny? One of the best headlines ever. Ha, I didn't even notice the headline the first time I looked at the article. That makes it even more hilarious.
  7. Ask the A's how much the draft means. Your position in the draft doesn't really matter. The actual draft does.
  8. HAHAHAHAHA. Steinbrenner must really want to miss the postseason. ESPN Link
  9. I doubt Miggy C is going anywhere. Willis, possibly, but Cabrera would be organizational suicide. Agreed. I don't see Miguel Cabrera going anywhere this year. No chance.
  10. How about ARam for Abreu? The theory behind these deals seems to be the Cubs would replace Aramis with Ensberg. The problem is there's no way they are getting Ensberg. I see Abreu and Ramirez being similar hitters for the next couple years, so this is just a lateral move, because they'd have to replace Ramirez's bat at third, which would be very hard. I don't get the point unless you've got a brilliant follow-up involving ARod. I would take Aramis barely but just because he's 28 and Abreu is 32 so ARam is less likely to have a big decline over the next couple years. Although he did have a big decline this year so who knows.
  11. I can't stand DMB band and don't mind Smashing Pumpkins so SP gets my vote.
  12. I like some of Aerosmith's work but I downright hate the White Stripes. Aerosmith gets my vote.
  13. Green Day. Am I the only Green Day fan who doesn't like the American Idiot album? EDIT to include the bolded part.
  14. I like both bands but I have to give this to Tool. It's not surprising RHCP are winning though.
  15. Especially considering the game was Tuesday night and he had gone out partying on Sunday night.... I've been incapacitated the whole day following a hard night drinking. But the following day I've always been fine. Maybe he was drinking all day Monday as well.
  16. Unbelievable song. Skynyrd up by 2.
  17. France's goal was on a penalty kick that was awarded due to a dive. The game shouldn't have even gone to overtime. No they didn't.
  18. Thanks for the report :) No problem. It was my pleasure.
  19. Good starting pitchers beware.
  20. I have everybody beat with my avatar.
  21. Sex Pistols by far. I can't stand Phil Collins.
  22. Gotta go with Iron Maiden.
  23. Agreed. I'm sure they know which games are being televised where around the US. They also know which area code I put in for MLB.TV when I registered which is why they know to black out the Giants and A's. Why can't they allow me to watch the game since it isn't being televised here? Is it that hard to do?
  24. I think they figure that a baseball fan will choose to watch their national game if they don't have the option of watching their favortite team. Which is completely absurd. Why not just show all the games at once, like the NFL's Sunday ticket. My only choices on Saturdays are Mets or Yankees games, and I have never watched any of their Saturday games in the more than a decade that I've lived here. It draws away viewers. I get Giants or A's and occasionally the Dodgers.
