  1. Yeah, he has definitely played up to that contract. Would you rather have him or Slappy in center right now? His line this year is .276/.380/.607/.987 and is on pace for 48 HR and 137 RBI. I would say he is earning his pay.
  2. The A's won 20 straight in 2002. Scott Hatteberg hit a walk off HR in the bottom of the ninth to win the 20th game. I was there and it was unbelievable.
  3. It's a good thing we tried to get Beltran after the 2004 season.
  4. Agreed. I will be disappointed if Maddux isn't traded. Not that I don't like the guy, because I do, but he isn't part of the plans for next year and we should get what we can for him.
  5. Way to increase the trade value Phil.
  6. How bad is Cedeno that he actually has to hit behind Blanco? They should actually bat Zambrano seventh. With Glavine pitching we might as well put Z sixth ahead of Jones.
  7. More like an A's fan moving to LA. Yes. An A's fan 10 miles away in San Fran? Not a big deal; I have friends from SF who are A's fans and friends from the East Bay who are Giants fans. Obviously there are going to be people that like both the A's and the Giants just like there are people who like both Chicago teams and both New York teams. But I know way more A's or Giants fans that don't really like the other team or just downright hate the other team. I know way more A's fans that would pull for the Dodgers over the Giants than the other way around.
  8. Could it be that he just didn't want to discuss Bonds and steroids, in response to the question about Bonds? Nope, it must be cause he's hiding something. That's why he didn't comment on Barry Bonds. Yep. Agreed. Or maybe he didn't want to talk about Bonds because the point of the interview was to discuss Sosa being left off the Hometown Heroes list and not Bonds. Interesting theory although he had no problem offering an opinion on McGwire's HOF chances even though that wasn't the "point of the interview." Good point. The only thing I can think of is McGwire is Sosa's friend and Bonds isn't.
  9. Harold Reynolds was actually tolerable on Baseball Tonight. Can we pay a bunch of female ESPN employees to accuse Joe Morgan of sexual harassment so he can be fired as well? Is this at all possible?
  10. They are on pace for 99 losses this year. I would like to see them hit 100 losses for the year.

  12. How hard do you think it was for Walker to not call Baker an idiot in one of those comments? Although he is basically implying it with some of his comments.
  13. He does need to go. You dont bring Weurtz in in the 7th inning with the bases loaded. That is Eyre's spot. Also, why the hell has Walker not played since his two error game? I thought he was not being punished??? oh and they called Theriot up yesterday with the injury to Lee and he was not in the starting lineup..... WHY FRIGGEN NOT? Why not bring Wuertz in? Paul Lo Duca was batting (a righty) so you bring Wuertz in to face him. Then you bring in Eyre to fact the lefties (Beltran and Delgado). How is that a bad thing?
  14. Or how he was on a contending team year in and year out.
  15. Coming from a Royals fan, I would expect sour grapes. It seems that many from KC have a general loathing for St. Louis, and I'm not really sure why. And the whole "best fans in baseball" silliness is not something that every Cardinal fan touts like it's a fact. Granted, some idiots do, but certainly you can't lump the morons in with intelligent fans. Every team has intelligent fans, every team has idiots. Such is life. As for the throwing the ball back after home runs, I agree that it's stupid to be done in Busch. But it doesn't happen after every home run. In fact, I've only seen it done twice. Talk about making a mountain out of a mole hill. I thought you all might dig this, even though I think it's pretty wrong. Sorry to say this, but I agree. Kansas City has an inferiority complex to St. Louis like St. Louis has one to Chicago. This "article" (actually a blog) would read no different if a St. Louis native moved to the North Side of Chicago, a San Francisco native moved to LA or a Boston resident moved to New York. Except for the fact that the teams you mentioned (STL/CHC, SF/LA, BOS/NYY) are all big time rivals whose fans don't like each other. I would hardly consider two teams in opposite leagues that play 6 times a year to be rivals. A good comparison would be an Oakland A's fan moving to San Francisco.
  16. Marshall has shown the ability to get people out at the ML level and has made numerous quality starts this year. Obviously not every young pitcher is going to pitch like Jered Weaver or Liriano, but I want to see some progress which is what Marshall has shown at points this year. Has he had his setbacks? Of course. Most young pitchers do. But Hill hasn't shown any progress. Again, how could you possibly percieve "progress" or "regression" in only FOUR CONSECUTIVE STARTS!? Why couldn't you? If you are making the same mistakes for 4 straight startsl then you aren't exactly making progress right? "sample size". Heard of it? Give him more than "you there! Succeed at the major league level in 4 starts or you're GONE!!". . "BTW be more like Marshall, he's good" (when he's not THAT good). . Hill has dominated AAA. He is ready to be a major leaguer. Now is the time to let him get over his lumps. It would be incredibly stupid if the Cubs only gave him 1 or 2 starts before they start pressuring him to do better. In a better organization, Rich Hill might be pictching with a 3.00 ERA by now. I have no doubt. If Hill has a 9.00 ERA after 10 starts, I might start to lean your way. But not after 4. BTW if this (your position on Hill) is what Hill has to deal with in Dusty and Rothy then I can understand why he has mental problems pitching on the Cubs. What about after 8 starts - which is how many he has at the ML level? 8 consecutive starts? NO. 8 starts spattered around 2 years of being tossed in the rotation and yanked back out, brought up, sent down. Talk to me when Hill gets a "fair" shot. I wasn't sure if you meant 10 total starts or 10 consecutive starts. Thanks for clarifying.
  17. Yeah, he would have an OBP of at least .900. Note: I understood what you were saying but I had to make the joke.
  18. I did that "in the right state of mind" as you put it and really enjoyed it. EDIT: I voted for Pink Floyd as well.
  19. I keep wondering how a guy can hit 291 and only have an OBP of 319. I watched Brad Wilkerson tonight who is slumping badly. He's hitting 234, but his OBP is still higher than Jones. Even against righties, which Jacque hits better, his isoD is only .030. No matter how you slice it he gets on base by hitting the ball, not walking. That sounds familiar....Hendry? I'm not saying it's the right way or the best way to get on base. I'm saying that it's the way Jacque gets on base. Factual rather than opinion.
  20. Z. DLee in 2005.
  21. Please don't run ARam out of town.
  22. Fixed, Family friendly here ya know. Not 1950's family friendly, though.
  23. There's no 'i' in sarcasm.
  24. Agreed. To continue with your landlord analogy, why let the tenant ruin the building anymore when you can evict him and start the cleanup a little earlier than normal?
  25. Because you touch your CAPS LOCK at night.
