  1. WGN showed Dempster on the phone during a game a few days ago. Was he at Wrigley on one of the new dugout phones? It was at Wrigley and if the dugout phones look like cell phones then I guess it could have been. IIRC either Len or Bob said something about it as well. Not anything negative, just mentioning it.
  2. I'm dropping the subject myself since I'm no expert on who attends games at Wrigley Field. I do want to point out that your "This is a stupid angle...." comment was disrespectful of another posters opinion, which is probably what I should have just stuck with rather than entering a debate that I'm not so educated on. I found your comment a bit offensive. Debate it all you wish, but please try to be a bit more respectful of an opposing view. And this wouldn't be directed only at you. We all should attempt to be a little more respectful of opposing views. I for one never get offended and took no offense to what was said. I honestly don't think internet discussion boards should be moderated at all, but that's irrelevant since this one is. In any regard, I appreciate the kind comments. :D I actually like that the board is moderated because it keeps the peace on the board and keeps the topic on what the board is about (in this case the Cubs) rather than personal attacks at other posters.
  3. I would definatly remove Jenkins from the list partly because he played a bunch of years with other teams and because his career ERA+ is 115. I would be hesitant to add Hack Wilson to the list because of the first reason listed for Jenkins. I would definately include Sammy Sosa as well. Excluding him is ludicrous. I would also consider adding Cap Anson for either Billy Williams or Ron Santo.
  4. I never liked that he came back so quick. He should have taken another couple weeks off to rest the wrist.
  5. And then where does Barrett bat today? Third.
  6. When you make repeated misstatements of fact on this board, you will always be greeted with what may appear to be hostility. Some folks just can't take being corrected. Oh well. And please, do not flatter yourself. You will not be missed in the least. No need to be hostile Fred.
  7. Koufax has the ninth best career ERA+ among lefties. Here is the list: Lefty Grove Randy Johnson John Franco John Hiller Rube Waddell Harry Brecheen Whitey Ford Noodles Hahn Sandy Koufax Franco and Hiller were relievers. Hahn only pitched 6 years (the other two he made 19 total appearances). That puts Koufax 6th all time in career ERA+ among lefty starters. It's too bad that Koufax retired at 30 though because he put up his best four ERA+ (by far) in the last four years of his career including his best ERA+ in his final season. One has to wonder how much higher his career ERA+ would have been if he played a few more years. I would imagine that a three more years in the 170 ERA+ range would vault him over the other lefty starters except Johnson and Grove. EDITED to include the two bolded words.
  8. Agreed. Time for a double play ball. Two strikeouts will work as well.
  9. Why couldn't he have done that in the eighth inning on June 5?
  10. Dunn needs a couple good 2 or 3 strikeout games to get himself back on record pace.
  11. BREAKING NEWS: Dusty Baker's head exploded today (July 20, 2006) after Matt Murton got an RBI in his at bat in the fifth inning without even taking a swing.
  12. Patterson in 04 Corey had 32 in 04. And change my question to 35 steals in a season. Eric Young, 54 in 2000 Wow. I didn't realize EY stole that many bases.
  13. Terrible, he's hit like .220/.300/.450 since that first tear during the beginning of the season. He's literally hit like 3 homers since the first 9. Shelton has 16 HR's on the year.
  14. Patterson in 04 Corey had 32 in 04. And change my question to 35 steals in a season.
  15. Does anybody know when the last time a Cubs player stole 34 bases in a season was?
  16. WGN showed Dempster on the phone during a game a few days ago.
  17. Besides general business ethics, yes, the commissioner's office would most definitely get involved. Just to play devil's advocate, how would the commissioner's office know? If nothing came out to the press and this scenario happened, how would anybody know that it wasn't just Aramis wanting to return to Wrigley in 2007?
  18. Beltre was coming off a 1000+ ops season. No way Aramis gets a deal like that in free agency. Aramis has had a better career than Beltre but hasn't had a season like Beltre's in 2004.
  19. Yep, you're right. I'm sure Sosa's downfall had absolutely nothing to do with his getting drilled in the head in 2003 when his helmet shattered. You remember the incident? It was the one that caused Sosa to move further away from the plate so he couldn't even dream of hitting an outside pitch. That is what killed Sammy. Say what you want about the steroids and throw out all the accusations you want. But you can't completely ignore Sammy's getting beaned. Sure, the steroids probably had some effect on his downfall, but I believe that the beaning ultimately had more of an affect and really sped up the process. EDIT: I have no desire to see Sosa play again and tarnish his legacy even further. Please stay retired Sammy.
