  1. Because, as Len and Bob just said, he's "speedy."
  2. If Pagan plays so deep, shouldn't he have been able to get under that ball? Also, Bob just ripped Jacque's arm. He said "Jacque can't seem to find a middle ground - he either airmails the catcher or spikes the ball into the ground."
  3. If I would have picked Ryan Howard over Derrek Lee I would have 282 and would be in 3rd place.
  4. But my point is his affiliation with the Mets has nothing to do with it. It's MLB wide, not to mention, all of pro sports. http://i64.photobucket.com/albums/h184/soccer10k/0504_large.jpg
  5. Is there a way to download a video clip from YouTube? If not, does anyone have the video of the Division-clinching double play from 2003?
  6. Who says we aren't fighting for a WC spot! We are only 9.5 games out! We are right in the thick of it. I wish people would stop saying that, even if in jest. I really do not want this team to rope me back in.... If the Cubs get within 5 games by September they will get my attention. Otherwise I will continue to have no playoff hopes for this team. I told my dad that going into today's games, the Cubs were just 9.5 out of a playoff spot - solely to prove a point that the NL was horrible this year and not to say they might make the playoffs - and he said the Cubs "might as well be 95 games out." Thought it was funny.
  7. If the Cubs start to win with Izturis/Cedeno/Murton hitting/playing well and the young arms pitching well, shouldn't that be considered a good thing?
  8. Why do you hate them? I could tell you why he hates the White Sox. He had some anti-White Sox blog last year. He used to post there under a different name, but he says all the same things. One reason was that there was some Sox fan at his high school (New Trier) that he hated and the other was that he used to post on southsiders.net, which is a small-time White Sox message board. I guess they banned him and it was the mortal wound of his life because after that he went on a real rampage, trolling all the Sox message boards, kicking his blog into overtime, trolling non-White Sox boards with anti-White Sox messages, encouraging people to spam and troll the southsiders.net board, etc. He'd report his anti-White Sox activities on his anti-Sox blog (which is gone now). A lot of it was funny to read, particularly his defense of his activities (White Sox fans are bad because they hate the Cubs obsessively, so he hates the White Sox obsessively)and his theory that MLB is conspiring to keep the Cubs from ever winning the World Series. A little too much time on your hands? For which one? Tad for knowing/coming up with all of this or, if it's true, CubsBullsBears for doing all this? And based on his posts, I wouldn't put this sort of activity past CBB.
  9. I don't see any mention of what they need to do to be eligible however. Perhaps they must finish in the top 8 to get there? I have to be missing something here. Soccer says they are guaranteed a spot if they finish in the top 8. I'm wondering if they can be eligible without being guaranteed a spot or if they must be in the top 8. My guess is that they have to be eligible now along with everyone else if they are ranked in the top 14 in the BCS (up from 12 last year-because the number of teams in the BCS went from 8 to 10). I think it was a compromise with ND-ND used to be eligible with either a 9 win team or a top 12 ranking, and had to be top 6 to be automatically in-now they have to have at least 9 wins and be in the top 14 like everyone else, with a top 8 bid getting them automatically in. I also like that they have given a possible path to minor conferences-any team from a minor conference that finishes in the top 12 will be automatically in-and 13th through 16th if there is a major conference winner that is ranked below that (which there has been just about every year). So it is likely that we will see the best minor conference team in a BCS bowl pretty much every year-which I think their best usually deserves. This is over a year old but it's all I could find.
  10. Ironic, considering ND played Michigan last year. That's why I included the word likely. Obviously it would be stupid to say that Michigan will be in the BCS hunt every single year because they won't be. But most years, Michigan will be a serious contender to win the Big 10.
  11. Maybe the Cubs should schedule a special non-hitting session where they go into the batters box with no bats and watch the pitches go by. Anyone who pretends to swing the bat runs a lap around the field.
  12. Almost. I didn't want to cheat by making a bunch of useless posts just to get to 25 pages. Not very sporting. You mean like this post?
  13. Bo is right. Why do you say that? Notre Dame is annually rated the most popular team in the nation. It's not like they have to compete with the Wolverines for fans. Although I despise Michigan and want to see the series continued for rivalry purposes, ND isn't really getting much out of the series other than road money. It gives Notre Dame a usually guaranteed good matchup for their schedule. You know every year there are going to be a couple teams in every conference with 0, 1, or 2 losses so you'll get good games every single year in conference. Because they don't play in a conference, Notre Dame doesn't have many teams that are guaranteed to be good. Look at last year. Notre Dame's only good scheduled opponent was USC. Every other team they played was eh at best. Michigan provides them an opponent that is likely to be in the hunt for a BCS bowl year in and year out. I think they both help each other but as Pedro said, Bo is right. The thing is though, Notre Dame has several series they have taken off thier schedule in order to get a slightly more managable schedule. If we lost Michigan, one of those teams would play us. Tennessee, Florida State, and to a lesser extent Boston College are three teams who ND has basically chosen only to play from time to time because of the strength of their schedule. I do think though that Michigan needs Notre Dame less for only one big reason. Michigan can get into a BCS bowl with a Notre Dame loss meaning very little if they do well in a conference. For Notre Dame, every loss is vitally important as it's all based on where they finish in the BCS standings-and I believe they now have to get top 8 to get considered starting this year, so that will make a loss even harder to take-which means to cushion themselves against a loss, they have to play a tough schedule, which includes Michigan. BCS Info It says if Notre Dame finishes in the top 8 in the BCS standings they are guaranteed an at-large berth. So they can still make it if they don't finish in the top 8 but they wouldn't be guaranteed a birth.
  14. Heading my way? Was supposed to pick up a load at 8:00 over at P & G in Lacombe going to Chino, CA..... but the load isn't ready. If I do pick it up, I can't take it all the way to CA because I need to be home by Fri...... so they were talking about having me run it into Dallas and switching there with another load...... but nobody seems to know when this thing will be ready..... so I don't really know what's going to happen. Maybe I'll just get PO'd and go home ??? Nah, come to Chino. It's about as close to me as Ontario is. We can exchange notes on how to win game threads, something the rest of the posters here could learn. :) I'm all for just letting either you or Fred take my place in the rotation as well as your own. I didn't have any luck this year.
  15. Is it at 25 pages yet? I figured I would help out.
  16. Where did you hear/read this? Bruce Miles said it on page 11 (premium) of this game thread: No, I don't know that he did. I had it at 20-80 him coming back about a month ago. I've got it at 50-50 and rising every day right now. Thanks. I figured it was in the Game Thread somewhere but I didn't feel like going through and reading the whole thing.

  18. ETA: Cubs.com says he's a go on Saturday Cubs.com confirms this information.
  19. If the Cubs played the Cardinals in Wrigley every day for the rest of the year, then I would put money on them to make the playoffs. Otherwise, not going to happen.
  20. One thing that struck me: Even though the Tigers are 9 games ahead of the Mets for the best record in the league, the Mets had a higher probability of making the playoffs.
  21. I would rather play for the 2006 Dodgers than the 2006 Cubs also. The comments don't seem Maddux-esque and I don't think he meant to take a jab at the Cubs but it's how it came across. Either way, I still wish him well.
  22. After needing 104 games to get their first 4 game winning streak of the year, the Cubs will try to get their second 4 game winning streak in 2 weeks.
  23. We need someone to light a fire under us. We lack an emotional leader. I'll volunteer. Go get 'em boys! Give it your all! Nothing less than a 110%! (I'm feeling 25 pages tonight.) In Regular or Premium?
