  1. Sounds completely mean spirited to me. I think its brilliant. I wouldn't actually ruin his painting though, I'd probably put some sort of plastic wrap around it before writing on the plastic. He would likely be very distracted. If you actually defiled the painting that would be mean-spirited. But doing what UMFan83 suggested would be hilarious and a good idea.
  2. Three things come to mind: (1) Ichiro is under contract for $11M in 2007. Free agent after the 2007 season. (2) Near as I can tell, he did not get a no-trade clause in his last deal. (3) On several occasions last year and last offseason, Suzuki questioned Seattle's commitment to winning and their managerial choice. If there is a private feeling amongst Seattle management and/or Ichiro that he will not be a Mariner in 2008, it may be in everybody's best interest to deal him this offseason. Cubs certainly have the financial wherewithall to get him, and his OBP would be a big improvement. Cot's has Ichiro without a no-trade clause.
  3. 4-12 for the rest of the year is all I ask for.
  4. Come on man is that really needed? He has a serious health problem. All he has done is try to get a spot on a big league team, he hasn't hurt anyone. Get Well Glendon. Save it. If your gonna spew venom do it towards everyone making comments like this. Soccer10k said pretty much the same thing I did. Furthermore, Im pretty sure those who have been around here a while know im not the type of person to try to slam someone when they're down. It was nothing more than a light-hearted comment. Dont get your undies in a bunch. Frankly, I don't see a problem with either of our comments. I said I hoped he got better (which was sincere even though I said for the 2008 season) and expressed my desire to never throw another pitch for the Cubs again. I was not being sarcastic and did not imply that I didn't want him to get healthy again. For yours, I'm sure you meant no ill will towards Glendon and were just trying to make a joke. I laughed. We didn't say we hope this forces him to retire. We didn't wish serious physical harm upon Glendon. I don't really see the big deal with this. Other people besides myself and Roast said things along the same lines.
  5. Has he really "figured it all out" since? AVG .312 | HR 17 | RBI 74 | OBP .372 | SLG .501 6 triples, VS. LEFT: .288 / .885 VS. RIGHT: .312 / .845 HOME: .312 / .893 AWAY: .302 / .820 He strikes out kkind of lot, but I'd say he's doing just fine Wow, I thought he was doing a lot worse than that this year. Serves me right for being too lazy to click my mouse a few times and look up his stats. Contract year. If he does it next year, then I'll believe he figured it out.
  6. Hopefully he'll be healthy for the 2008 season, you know, when his contract with the Cubs is over.
  7. MLB Gamecast has Garcia at 82 pitches through 7 innings.
  8. I love baseball superstitions when a pitcher has a no-hitter/perfect game going.
  9. You don't need to listen all that closely. Oh, really? http://www.whitesoxinteractive.com/vbulletin/showthread.php?t=78730 I'm actually a little suprised at their response.
  10. I'm not all that excited by guys who are so motivated by individual awards. With pitchers I usually don't mind because they know that more wins will win them the Cy Young award and obviously if your pitcher gets a win then your team will as well. But in this case Z should realize that wins don't matter anymore this year because the season is over and that he could seriously hurt himself by pitching more.
  11. The Cubs don't have right to be picky. They have to gamble. It's much better than their longstanding strategy of sticking with mediocrity. But what happens if we sign Nomar and he misses most of 2007? Then are you going to criticize the Cubs for stupidly spending money on a player that is perennially injured? Would that be the only move? I would sure hope not. Considering that I wanted the return of Nomar as part of the 2006 strategy, I have already contemplated the threat of him not being around all year. The key is to not center your entire season on such a player, like the Cubs pretty much centered everything on Prior and Wood the past few years. They'd still have to get offensive upgrades elsewhere. I would hope that wouldn't be the only move as well and I agree with you. I don't want Hendry to even consider Nomar because I know Hendry won't have a backup plan in place just in case - or when if you want to be pessimistic - Nomar gets hurt again. It's one thing to not have a backup in place for Derrek Lee because he had been consistently healthy but it seems as if Hendry didn't even consider the possibility of Wood and Prior not being healthy this year.
  12. True, but a team dosent have a chance to go to the playoffs every year. This is probably the Twins year to win the world series. I think their pitching is solid(specially in the bullpen). Their lineup produces enough runs to win a game every day. Twins are my favorites to win the World Series if they make it to the playoffs. Why is this the Twins's year as opposed to say, next year or the year after it? Their core isn't getting broken up, and you could say they'd be adding to it with Garza and a full season of Liriano. Mauer, Morneau, Santana, Liriano, Cuddyer, Garza, Nathan, Neshek, Punto, Bartlett, none of those guys are going anywhere. Granted, they have had a couple guys play over their head(Tyner, Bartlett, some of the bullpen), but that's not a significant difference that it's worth jeopardizing a talent like Liriano to make a run this year. Bingo. Well stated.
  13. Z isn't going to win the Cy Young this year. Webb: 15-6, 3.00 ERA, 1.16 WHIP Carp: 14-6, 2.84 ERA, 1.04 WHIP Z: 14-6, 3.50 ERA, 1.31 WHIP Both Webb and Carp are more deserving than Z is.
  14. That was a very entertaining game. Man U had way more shots (17-6) but only 2 more shots on goal (6-4) than Celtic. Even with that Celtic still had a very good shot to win that game. If the referee makes the correct call and doesn't award Man U a penalty kick it would be 2-2. Celtic also had a breakdown on one of Man U's goals and basically gave the ball away. Based on this performance I would have to give Celtic the edge on advancing out of this group behind Man U.

  16. South Carolina starting quarterback Blake Mitchell has been suspended indefinitely as per ESPN.com
  17. I predict the Tigers will win the game. Clever. ;) Should be a great game. I like Auburn in a squeaker. Thank you. :D And I too think Auburn will pull out a close victory.
  18. Man U strikes just 1 minute into the second half. Saha's attempt at a hat trick was denied but the goalie gave up a rebound and Solskjaer was in the right spot and put it in. 3-2 Man U.
  19. That is most definately great news.
  20. WOW. After Saha gives Man U a 2-1 lead, Nakamura answers just 3 minutes later on a great free kick. Van der Sar didn't even move as Nakamura curled it right over the wall. GREAT free kick.
  21. Bad call against the Celtic goalkeeper gives him a red card an a penalty kick for Man U. Saha converts and it's 1-1.
  22. Celtic strikes first at Old Trafford, 1-0.
  23. Man U-Celtic is on right now.
