  1. Worst case scenario is Dodgers-Yankees (Dad vs Mom) but not for that reason. Having to hear my dad brag about the Dodgers winning a World Series would be insufferable. And while my mom wouldn't do that, it's still the Yankees which would be horrible. Cards-Yankees would be a CLOSE second.
  2. I'll agree with that. I think a lot of people had the Yanks/Red Sox making the playoffs but like you said, the White Sox/Indians both making it wasn't much of a stretch going into the season. As for the NL, I don't think many people had two teams coming out of the NL West.
  3. Red Sox fans should be thanking Theo Epstein right now. Just think how furious they would be if Pedro had been signed by the Red Sox to the same 4 year deal and then this happened. Oh man.
  4. =D> Pure gold.
  5. Adam Dunn made a valiant effort (76 K's in August/September/October) but with 194 K's, he fell just one strikeout short of his own record. Dunn now owns the top 2 season with K's for a hitter. I have no doubt that someday Dunn will crack 200.
  6. Last game thread (if you can even call them threads over the past couple months) of the year. Can't really say I'm disappointed based on how the year has gone.
  7. So we ended up with the #3 pick, eh? While it's not #1, we did end up with the worst record in the National League. Gotta be proud of that accomplishment.
  8. With my dad's birthday being August 21st that leaves me two days to attempt to see the Cubs next year when the come to San Francisco.
  9. I'll wait until the official announcement before I start celebrating.
  10. I'm surprised that nobody commented on this part. I guess I'll be the first. Just say no to Lou Piniella. Two or three years in Chicago? I hope not.
  11. So what does that leave the capacity at? And if (knock on wood) the A's advanced to the ALCS/WS, would they open Mount Davis then? Just curious as to how many tickets could be available.

  13. No way. Oregon, while not officially, is already a one-loss team in my book. If anyone deserves a bump up with a win this week it is LSU. They will have beat the #5 team, and their loss was barley losing to #2. First, I agree that LSU/Florida is the best game this week although Cal/Oregon could be the most entertaining game of the week. Sayy what you want about Oregon having/not having a loss and Cal getting blown out by Tennessee but Cal has dropped 40+ on four straight opponents and Oregon has put up 30+ in all four games this year. You want a tough defensive game, watch LSU/Florida. You want an offensive shootout, watch Oregon/Cal. Second, I wouldn't bump LSU up at all if they beat Florida other than the spot they would move up with Florida dropping assuming nobody else ahead of them loses of course. If Oregon goes to Berkeley and beats Cal, they should move up a couple spots. I think Georgia will lose to Tennessee which would drop them. Either LSU or Florida is going to lose and Oregon would jump in front of them. If LSU beat Florida, I would put Oregon above LSU. They wouldn't be top 5 though. But I think this will be a moot point as I see Cal taking to Oregon.
  14. Big game this weekend. Cal Poly is UC Davis's new rival because Sac State can't come with in 3 touchdowns of us anymore. GO AGGIES!!
  15. Seriously! Or told FitzSimons, "Yo, bossman, I'm jettin on this disaster," so that we could have found a legit replacement, instead of the tool from marketing. I imagine he did tell him that...and this was what Fitzimmons came up with. Oh the Competence!! Mark Cuban, save us! Mark Cuban knows [deleted] about baseball, he's a joke and if he decides to get involved in baseball, dont let it be the Cubs, because he'll take them straight to baseball hell, plus he wont be able to run out on the field with that bad body he's got! And you might want to watch the language. Cuban would be a great owner. He would make sure he put the right people in place and take care of his players. He took the Mavs from loser to the NBA Finals. I think he would be a breath of fresh air. BTW, when did Cuban run over your dog? I think Cuban would be the type of person who, if he didn't fully understand something, he would bring people in who he thought did understand what was going on and would give him advice on things. But if they didn't give him advice that worked, those people would be gone and he would bring in other people and would try something else.
  16. I hope to wake up tomorrow to hear Dusty will not be retained.
  17. I assume you mean AL. Well, the Sox blew it, so I guess it was the Tiger's turn. Yeah I did mean the AL. I don't think the Sox necessarily blew anything since the Tigers were in control of the AL Central the whole year.
  18. I just read the news. With Baker likely gone this is a good start to the offseason. All we need now is Hendry to be fired.
  19. The torture is over.
  20. With a loss today and a Minnesota win, the Tigers have blown the AL Central and won the Wild Card. They will now have to go to New York in the first round. EDITED to correct an error.
  21. While I agree that Hendry should do everything in his power to retain Aramis I have to object with this statement. Cabrera is back to playing 3B for the Marlins this season, and he's far and away the best bat at the hot corner. (A position that's extremely well stacked in the NL right now; Cabrera, Ramirez, Wright, Rolen, Zimmerman, Atkins, etc.) Is Cabrera back playing 3B? Even with him in the mix Aramis stacks up very favorably. Miggy may be the better player in the long run, but right now Aramis is every bit as good. May I please share in your supply of wacky weed? If I were picking a 3B for tomorrow's game, my list would look like this: Cabrera Wright Ramirez Atkins But I'd be tempted to pick Atkins third. Realistically, those three could be put in any order depending on your overall preferences on offense. But Cabrera is well above the other three. I stand corrected, after looking at Cabrera's numbers this season. I hadn't looked at them in awhile. While I figued Cabrera was having a little bit better of a season than ARam, I was surprised to see how much better. The guy is a flat out stud.
  22. Pretty pathetic for a team that has won 90+ games 5 of the last 6 seasons with a 102 and 103 win season in there Oakland has 400,000 people, we don't need a stadium that holds 65,000 people. The A's also wanted to get more advance sales so they could plan better, in the past, people knew they could walk up and get good seats, so that's what they did. The A's need a new baseball-only stadium. I was in Mount Davis for the 20th win in a row in 2002. That was one of the two best baseball games I've been at in terms of how great the fans were (and the other was a World Series game). Oakland fans just cannot be compared to Marlins fans. I was at that game too and yeah, that was an unbelievable game. IIRC it was a Wednesday and my dad and a couple of his friends were planning on going to that game anyway ($1 hot dogs) and it just so happened to be the 20th win game. I was sitting in the third deck on the third base side. A ton of people left early so we moved down the the first level in the seventh inning. And what a finish. The people that stayed were stood and cheered for a solid 10 minutes when the dropped down the "20" banner in CF. Unreal.
  23. Bingo. I have the same exact feelings. See I never understood that at all. I mean, I go to U of I, but I just can't seem to take college sports seriously. I mean, all these people that have never even seen the University of Illinois rooting for my football or basketball team? What gives? I think pro is better than college in every sport. It's more for the students involvement than anything. And all the rituals that go along with college sports like, since it was discussed here recently, Penn State's white out. Or yesterday for the Iowa-OSU game they showed a wide view of the stadium and it was a huge sea of yellow. You don't get that in the pro game. In college you get small schools (like UC Davis) playing major conference schools (like Stanford) and when the small school actually pulls the upset, it's unbelievable how the players and students/fans react.
  24. WOW. That is unreal. He has over 1100 yards in 5 games, with 7 games to go. If Wolfe can run for 150-200 yards against Iowa's defense in a couple of weeks, there's no doubt in my mind he has to at least be invited to New York. I agree especially considering he already tore up Ohio State. It would be one thing if he never played a game this year against even a decent major conference team. But he's already ran through arguably the best team in the nation and has a chance to do it again against a top 3 Big 10 team.
