  1. This is gonna take some tough tv remote work. Notre Dame-Stanford on NBC Oklahoma-Texas on ABC LSU-Florida on CBS Michigan St-Michigan on ESPN at 1:30 Washington-USC on FSN And there is also New York-Detroit game 4. I think I'm up to the challenge.
  2. Ideal result: ARod goes 0-4 with 3 K's. The Yankees are down 1 going into the ninth and ARod either strikes out with the bases loaded or GIDP to end the game.
  3. Or raising their level of play, so to speak.
  4. Auburn definately didn't look very good today. They're celebrating in West Virginia and Louisville right now.
  5. I don't think anyone is saying it's all his fault. The most common argument against him is that the Cubs simply don't have a use for him given his age, his weaknesses and how much money he'll command. He simply isn't a good fit for this team where they're at right now. Not to mention that if he loses a step, he'll be completely useless offensively.
  6. Corso picked us, Herbstreit picked Tech 6 PM can't come fast enough Should be interesting. Missouri is allowing the 10th fewest passing ypg while Tech gains the third most. Somethings gotta give. I picked Missouri.
  7. 17-7 Arkansas over Auburn right now.
  8. first off, i don't know why you wouldn't want wood back at a reasonable, incentive-laden deal. it's a virtual no risk/high reward situation. i'm all for those. i agree with adding zito, but there were two train wrecks on this team last season, pitching and offense. pitching is much more important than offense, so an appropriate amount more should be spent on it. When did pitching become "much more important" than offense?
  9. Sheffield will be a free agent which will take $13M off the books. Mussina has a $17M club option (1.5M buyout for 2007) and it's hard to see the Yankees picking that up. So right there you have almost $30M coming off the books. Are they looking to cut that much salary? With the trade you're proposing, even with the Yankees paying some of the contracts, that would mean the Yankees would be cutting somewhere from $40-50M worth of salary next year depending on how much money they give the Cubs.
  10. Ugh. Not Joe Morgan. It appears I won't be watching much of the Pads-Cards game unless the football games get out of hand.
  11. Haha. I have to miss the Oregon-Cal game because of work as well.
  12. You're right. Colorado paid $49M, Florida $23.5M and Atlanta $48.5M. But Colorado and Florida's obligations ended in 2005 (with the exception of the $20M team option/$6M buyout for 2009). Here is the contract: 8 years/$121M (01-08), plus $20M 09 club option - $20M signing bonus ($1M to charity, $19M deferred to 2009-18 at 3% interest) - 01:$8M, 02:$8.5M, 03:$11M, 04:$12M, 05:$12.5M, 06:$13.5M, 07:$14.5M, 08:$15M, 09:$20M club option $6M buyout - Colorado to pay $49M ($20M signing bonus, $8M in 2001, $8.5M in 2002, $2M in 2003, $2M in 2004, $2.5M in 2005, $6M buyout in 2009). - Florida to pay $23.5M ($7M of 2003 salary, $8M in 2004, $8.5M in 2005). - Atlanta to pay $48.5M ($2M of 2003 salary, $2M in 2004, $1.5M in 2005, $13.5M in 2006, $14.5M in 2007, $15M in 2008).
  13. Did anybody else see Bradley and Loaiza joking about the spilt coffee incident from Game 2 during Game 3? Just saw the highlights on SportsCenter. Good stuff.
  14. ...get rid of Mike Hampton's contract. The discussion about Hudson/Jones from the Braves got me to look up their current contract situations on Cot's and the first player listed on the Braves is Mike Hampton. According to Cot's, the Braves paid Hampton $13.5M in 2006 and owe him $14.5M and $15M in 2007 and 2008. OUCH!! Note: This really isn't a baseball discussion but rather a point I found very interesting.
  15. ndistops and I combined to lead the A's to the sweep this week. \\:D/
  16. Go Tigers!! Close this thing out tomorrow. Soccer10k wants to go see you lose to the A's next Wednesday.
  17. And his league leading total of 532 outs? Pierre was as a hitter the equivalent of an American League pitcher with an ERA of about 4 in 177 innings. Since that pitcher is doing a pretty good job, I'd have to say that Pierre did a pretty bad job as an offensive player. But he is fast and he does bat leadoff. That's what the thread title should mention: Juan Pierre: 2006 NL Out-making leader.
  18. Positive Cubs statistic: They aren't going to lose another regular season game for almost 6 months.
  19. Apples and Oranges in terms of the type of player. Crawford may not have as high as slugging% as Carbera, but is Carbera gonna swipe 50+ bases and play gold glove defense. I'd still take Cabera first, but Crawford isn't that far off. I'll take the .998 OPS OF rather than the .840 OF who steals bases by a huge margin - and to think Crawford isn't that far off, you must not be able to pass a urine test. Disgruntled Cubs Fan = Dusty Baker stan - "love that speed dude" Its unfortunate you can't debate your point without personal insults. How old are you? It's unfortunate that you think Carl Crawford is a comparable player to Miguel Cabrera.
  20. Wow Jeff, too much time on your hands?
  21. :lmao: Yeah, that'll be the day.
  22. We should be mad at the Marlins. If Gonazlez was still available, Hendry's head might explode and the Cubs could then get a new GM as well.
  23. Excellent interview. A couple points: I don't like that Lou Piniella seems to be a favorite of Jim Hendry. Not good. I love the talk about the importance of OBP, SLG, OPS. My favorite line: "I'd rather have [Theriot] than a guy like Neifi Perez or Jose Macias that we had to look at the last couple years." Excellent and too true. And like I said, good job with the interview Irishoshea.
