Are you on a quest to have crappy pitching? Marquis and Meche are not good. "Not good" is being far too kind. They're pretty horrid. I can see cases for Westbrook, Lilly, Padilla... but Meche, Marquis, and Batista should be nowhere near a pro ball club (except for the cardinals). Batista has been pretty good. Marquis has been pretty good at times, but stunk last year. Meche, well, he's been below average. But none of them are horrid and all deserve starting jobs. Just to make a small defense of Marquis, if you take out the two games (against the White Sox on 6-21 and the Braves on 7-19) his ERA drops from 6.02 to 5.12. Now, I do realize that taking out certain games to make your point better is usually wrong but I feel this is an exception because in those two games Marquis was left in the game much longer than he would have been. LaRussa was saving the bullpen since the Cardinals were blown out the day before each of those games. Marquis pitched 5 innings in each start.

I've heard they're getting new sirens installed solely because ARam is coming back. If Manny was traded here they would, at the very least, need to double to number of policemen. Can the city of Chicago afford that kind of investment? I'm not so sure.

I would love to have Manny in Wrigley. As others have mentioned, a HUGE positive is that he only has 2 years left on the deal.

In 2004 Peavy was better, but pitched a lot less. In 2005, he was marginally better, and pitched a little less. Plus, Zambrano was great in 2003, when Peavy struggled, and Zambrano was good in 2002, when Peavy struggled. Z was also obviously much better this year. Peavy does have a great team friendly contract (why don't the Cubs ever sign these types of deals with their young guys?). But the one thing the Cubs have at their disposal is money, and I'd rather they pay more for the better player. Z's 2004>Z's 2003. I would hardly call his 2003 a great season. But I'm just nitpicking and would take Z over Peavy any day. Z has 4 full years as a starter, and a fifth starting half the time, with an ERA under 4. Peavy has just 2. And to answer Tim's question, I wouldn't even consider trading Z to the Braves for the package they're offering.

And considering all the talk radio hosts over the last 10 months falsely calling the Fiesta Bowl of last year a "beatdown" even though the game was in doubt until the very end, you'd think this guy would at least call in to one of THOSE shows, rather than worry about a game that was pretty much over in the 2nd quarter. What would you call last years OSU/ND game then if it wasn't a beat down? 617-348 total yards including a 275-62 rushing advantage. Troy Smith threw for over 300 yards and Pittman ran for over 100. Plus OSU turned the ball over twice and ND didn't at all. One of those turnovers was a Troy Smith fumble at the ND 9 yard line. The score of that game should have been much worse than it was. At the least it should be called a very convincing victory. Michigan outgained Ball State 507-297 on Nov. 4th and won the game by 8, and were 2 yards away from a possible tie game. Is that a beatdown? I could care less about any statistic other than the score when it comes to a football game. Could've would've should've means about as much in football as it does in any other sport - bupkus. So a game that ends with one team winning by three touchdowns but was back and forth the whole game - like no team led by more than 7 until late in the fourth quarter - would be considered a beatdown? You can't look at just the score when determining how dominant one team was in a game because one statistic does not tell you the whole story.
