  1. Absolutely, especially USC based on who they will have defeated. If Cal won out they would also get a big boost from going to USC and winning. I think USC would, and should, jump ahead of Texas if they won out. Cal I'm not so sure about though.
  2. :( anyone want an aramis ramirez jersey? Is it an Angels or a Dodgers jersey?
  3. Your school resides in a conference worse than the Big East this year. True - the Big XII North is a joke. I didn't know the Big XII North was it's own conference. The Big XII is much better than the Big East. Having one good team does not make a conference. If Bomar wouldn't have been kicked out then you could have made a case for two good teams but after Texas, the Big XII has nothing.
  4. I don't see why the second team doesn't get a chance to sign him if the first team that wins the bidding doesn't. For example...if Boston offers 10 per year for 4 years and he says no, the Yanks have to offer at least 20% more than Boston to get him to make it fair so the player doesn't just sign with the team he wants to. Because agents would use this as an under the table way to make the player a FA. A team like the Yankees could low ball the bid knowing they would just offer the player more money. But say the Yanks had 5 teams ahead of them. If Boston offers a 4/40 they would have to offer a 4/80 unless my math is wrong. The second team has to offer 20% more and it goes to 40 to the 3rd and so on. It depends if you add on 20% of the original bid or 20% of the previous bid. If it's the former then you be right and the Yankees would offer 4/80. If it's the latter then the bids would go 40, 48, 57.6, 69.12, 82.94, 99.53.
  5. Well, the Auburn loss all but puts Arkansas in the SEC title game. Also, Georgia Tech beat North Carolina 7-0 today to secure a place in the ACC title game.
  6. If you're looking for hope, don't look to the Cubs. Look somewhere else. Like Truffle's sig. or OleMissCub's
  7. cosigned sined (Think about it....) lets keep from going off on tangents . . . I love math jokes.
  8. Yeah, I definitely hadn't realized that was a glove until just recently. The MB has always been there in my mind. I'm the opposite. I always saw a glove.
  9. MLB said they would step in if anything like that happened. Also, the Red Sox have a strong need for starting pitching. They really could use Matsuzaka. If MLB determined that the Red Sox have no real intentions of signing Matsuzaka would he go back to Japan or would the team that had the second highest bid have the opportunity to sign him.
  10. Say what you want about Wisconsin, but they continue to win games. They may end up 11-1 this season, so they're certainly doing something right. AT the very least, they're the best team in the Big Ten not named OSU and Michigan. Heck, I bet if they replayed the Michigan game today the outcome would be much different, as this Badger team now is much improved offensively. I don't think Wisconsin is that good. The only ranked team they've played this year is Michigan and, I know it's not their fault, but they don't play OSU this year. Their out of conference schedule is a doozy: Bowling Green, Western Illinois, San Diego State, and Buffalo. Not arguing that their non-conference schedule is weak, it certainly is. Unfortunately that was an Alvarez methodology that will soon change. But outside that, their Big Ten schedule is something they don't have any control over. You can't say Wisconsin is not that good, because there is nothing to base that off of, they haven't played the teams as you mentioned. Rather, you can certainly say they're unproven because they haven't been tested much this year. Hopefully they'll get a good test in the Capital One bowl. Ok, at this point, we can agree their unproven. EDIT: 24-21 Wisconsin now.

  12. UC Davis is playing in the CBE Classic this weekend. They will face Georgia Southern on Sunday with the winner likely getting Duke in the next round (they play Columbia). The game with Duke would be aired nationally on ESPN 2. Frankly, it would be cool to get waxed by Duke on national television.

  14. I'm not sure what I'm more surprised about, Georgia playing this well or Auburn playing this poorly.
  15. Who cares what Iowa was ranked when OSU played them? Fact is, right now Iowa is sitting at 6-4, 2-4, and isn't even receiving votes in the polls. They're not a good team. Last week they lost to Northwestern at home. You can't use the spot they once were in the poll to make your argument. Would you do the same thing if Iowa was unranked when OSU played them but was now ranked in the Top 15? Of course not. You would say that OSU beat an Iowa team that is better than people thought and is now ranked in the Top 15. I'll give you the Texas and Michigan games and I would pick OSU to beat either Louisville or WVU but the thought (not necessarily yours) that the Big East is an inferior conference to the other five major conferences is just wrong. Is the Big East the best conference in the nation? Probably not. Are they the worst major conference in the nation? Absolutely not. It's inferior to at least a couple of them. I haven't said they're the worst, so if you're arguing that they're not, you're apparently arguing with nobody. There are a couple people on this board - like I said, you aren't one of them - who have openly stated that the Big East is by far the worst of the six major conferences.

  17. 2:30 on the west coast and still no word? ARGH. Well, I gugess I"m gonna drink another bveer or four.
  18. Same here although I'm waiting for the late hockey and basketball games to be done so I can put the updated standings into the paper.
  19. What makes the OSU/Michigan loser any better than Auburn, Florida, Arkansas, USC, Louisville, West Virginia, ND/Texas, or Cal? You could make an argument for OSU/Michigan loser as the second best team in the country but I have a hard time believing the choice as obvious.
  20. When Aram is a Dodger next week my point will be more clear. You don't have a point. No. You just don't agree with my point. Firing a 2nd dart at the Wade Miller board before securing Aram irks me. It's called multitasking.
  21. I think Ohio State will win only because I have a hard time seeing Michigan scoring a decent amount of points. It will be very much a defensive game though it looks like, and when it becomes that type of game where 1 play could change the game anybody could win. Ohio State will win because its in Columbus ...but I hope not I agree on Ohio State winning because they're at home. I think OSU has a better team though and might pick them to win in Ann Arbor. Should be an entertaining game though.
  22. Agreed. I think so too mainly because the game is in Morgantown. I don't see Rutgers pulling it out on the road. We'll see though. Should be a good game.
  23. could be, which would be a shame. If that happened, I would hope for a total clusterhump in the SEC plus Cal beating USC, USC beating ND, and Texas losing the Big XII game. Then you'l have a bunch of TWO loss teams to sort through (or open the door for Boise St., though they'll never get love from the pollsters) No, then you'd have an Ohio State-Michigan rematch. If Rutgers goes unbeaten, they'd better as hell play in the title game. I agree. If people were going to put WVU and Louisville in the title game, Rutgers should get the same consideration.
  24. Can you say "BCS controversy" because I guarantee we will have one this year. If Rutgers goes undefeated then the question is will the pollsters rank them high enough. If Rutgers loses one of their final three games then we'll have one undefeated team (OSU/UM) and a potentially a few one loss teams.
