  1. Plenty of people complained about FSU going to the BCS last year. I would say, especially after the games were completed, that more people complained about FSU and the ACC than WVU and the Big East.
  2. The 04 Cubs had easily had a better team than the 06 Cardinals do.
  3. I'll pass on Sheffield and all the baggage he'll bring with him.
  4. Wouldn't Robertson start Game 7? He didn't pitch horrible in Game 3 and frankly, nobody was going to beat Carpenter that game anyway. Your choices are Robertson on his normal 4 days rest or Bonderman on 2. Personally I'd take Robertson. But the Tigers still have to win 2 games to make this discussion matter so we'll see.
  5. I wait until Nov 1 then go to Safeway and raid their at least half price candy.
  6. VT goes up 24-7 on Clemson with 2 minutes to go in the third quarter.
  7. Or you could watch the Clemson-VT game. VT is up 17-7 in the third quarter.
  8. I hate you David Eckstein.
  9. last year he hit 276 and his obp was 290. i can't even imagine how insane that would've driven me. Wow. Only 11 walks in 2005.
  10. Thin Rodriguez with a base hit to drive in another run. 3-0 Tigers.
  11. Casey again. EDIT: This coming after some wonderfully insightful questioning by Mark Mulder on the bench.
  12. Granderson with a double. He must not know what to do with himself seeing as he hasn't didn't have a hit in the World Series before this one.
  13. I love it Sean Casey.
  14. I would love to do a blog, but if I was going to do one it would have to be for all sports so count me out for that. With the new sportswriting job (and keeping my old bartending/managing restaurant job part time as well) I don't have a ton of free time anymore. I like the general blog idea though.
  15. Does he want us to throw in Zambrano as well just for kicks?
  16. You're joking right? So you would rather have Julian Tavarez pitching in the 9th rather than Papelbon? No, what he's saying is that if he's winning by 1 run in the bottom of the 8th, he'd rather bring in his closer to face the heart of the team's order, then save a worse reliever for a lesser part of the order and give us a chance to increase the lead. He's saying put your best relievers in the highest leverage situations. Sometimes that's in the 9th, sometimes it's the 7th. Like in the ALCS Game 4 when Ken Macha brought Huston Street in with the bases loaded and 1 out in the 7th. Yes, I realize it's not the best example because Street gave up the game winning HR to Magglio in the ninth but the A's might not have got to the bottom of the ninth if Macha didn't bring Street into the game in the seventh.
  17. But to be fair, Howry/Eyre performed admirably especially for their contracts. Eyre wasn't good, and he was terrible for his contract. You're looking at overall numbers. Eyre was pretty darn good until August when his physical fitness caught up with him. Once his back and hammy started bothering him, his delivery really changed. He wasn't finishing like he was. Dude needs to get in shape this offseason. And what makes you think that the same thing isn't going to happen again next year?
  18. I do agree that if ND was ranked ahead of Tennessee and Florida before last weekend then they should have been ranked ahead of them after last weekend. Well, I could see moving Florida up but Tennessee played the same type of game that ND did. That being said, Notre Dame shouldn't have been ranked ahead of either of those two in the first place.
  19. I'm not sure if I've said this before, but I hate the Cardinals.
  20. Ha, yeah. There's no way he's going to get a $20M per year contract.
  21. Like vance said, Jones has 10-5 rights so he can veto any trade. If he doesn't want to be traded, he won't be.
  22. Beane + Baker = HAHAHAHAHAHAHA
