"Who's Mark Buehrle?" http://www.baseball-reference.com/b/buehrma01.shtml Apparently you missed Greg Maddux's quote from a few years ago. Link Such a great quote.
Yeah I agree. He could go out an perform well and shut some of these critics up. But right NOW, none of them will say it is in ANY WAY possible. Just like they did for Jones. They had him not batting above .250 with an OBP not at .300. Yeah, that bet that somebody made to give everybody something if Jones accomplished certain marks came a little closer than he wanted, although by the last week he was safe. :D That was me. I stand by that bet. It took a career season to make it close. And for the record, I fully expect Jason Marquis to be Shawn Estes level bad. Hey, if Marquis pitches a complete game shutout in the last week of the year to help the Cubs clinch the division, I won't complain.
Problem for them is that since they didn't beat any of the good teams they played earlier(they still play Mo. State, but they're a bubble team), and the Big South is so terrible(29th of 32 Conferences in RPI) that they'll likely be in a situation like last year, having to beat a real good team in the first round(they're 3-4 against the RPI Top 200). True, but they'll probably be better than a 15 seed like they were last year. Bracketology has them as a 12 right now, and if they finish out the year strong I don't see too many teams passing them that are that far down, so they would be at least a 13 in that scenario-facing a 4 or a 5 seed is a lot easier than facing a 2. And the fact that they are undefeated in conference this year (they had 3 losses in conference last year) and that they have 3 less losses right now than last year won't hurt either.
Yeah, seven would have been nice but six will still be good. Washington will need to win the Pac-10 tournament to get in at this point. Stanford should get in barring a complete collapse down the stretch and a quick exit in the Pac-10 tourmament.
Wasn't Iona in the NCAA tourney 2 or 3 years ago? Try last year. They lost to LSU in the first round. That's an amazing drop - from tournament team to worst record in DI.

Way to take well thgouht out and nuanced opinions and reduce them to their lowest common denominator. its what i do. Seriously though it does seem strange how fast you guys are abandoning Zambrano. It doesn't seem like that to you? No it doesn't. It seems like people are looking at his situation and realizing that giving a pitcher $20m per over a long term when that pitcher has giant red injury flags everywhere might be a bad idea, so they are open to the idea that trading him could bring in a terrific haul of players. Replace "players" with "prospects" and you are right. How long can we delay being even, you know, decent? I haven't seen a single trade idea that's not contained either a uber-awesome pitching prospect or a good ML player. ANA-Weaver, Kendrick, Adenhart seems to be the preferred package NYY-Hughes, Sanchez and Tabata or ARod. Weaver is an excellent P prospect with ML experience. Hughes is the #1 P prospect in baseball. Kendrick is a top prospect. It's not like people are tossing out AA names. Or arthritic crap like Cesar Izturis.
Duke drops out of the Coaches Poll They have also dropped out of the AP rankings. Top 5 in the coaches poll are Florida, OSU, Wisconsin, UNC, Pittsburgh. Top 5 in the AP poll are Florida, OSU, Wisconsin, UNC, UCLA. Florida is unanimous in both polls.
I would be willing to bet that, at the start of the road trip, not too many people had the Bulls losing to the Kings and Warriors while beating the Suns.
They'll probably have to win their last four regular season games - which would include two teams ahead of them in the MVC in Creighton and Missouri State - which would have them finishing the regular season at 21-9 overall and 11-7 in conference. They would probably have to win a couple games in the MVC tournament on top of that, to finish 23-10, and even that might not be enough. It's very possible the only way they get in to the tournament is as the MVC tournament champion. Don't forget winning their Bracketbuster game against Appalachian State is a must as well. But I agree. It's highly doubtful that they'll win out in the regular season, so their only way to get in would be to win the conference tournament. I was including the bracketbuster game in the four regular season games. They have that game and 3 MVC games. But yeah, it's unlikely they win out.

The whole Dirk choked/the Mavs gave the Heat the NBA title debate is stupid. Everybody knows it was the refs who gave the series to Miami. If Dirk would have played like Wade, and received the same treatment Wade did, Dirk would have shot at least twice as many free throws as he did.
