What FA or realistic trading options at QB are out there? I've heard McCown from the Lions or C-Pep. Neither of those are good options, imo. I agree with you that they should have grabbed Lienart last year. If I was a Raiders fan, I wouldn't be upset if they took a QB because honestly, they really need one. Edit: Could be totally wrong here but this is my impression from the outside looking in. Personally, I'd like to see them take Drew Stanton in the second round but wouldn't be disappointed with Trent Edwards either. Trent Edwards will be a better pro than Drew Stanton, imo. No west coast bias involved, right CR? I really don't think there is a huge difference between Quinn, Russell, Edwards and Stanton. Edwards was stuck with a bad Stanford team and Stanton was stuck with a horrible coach which really hurt their respective draft stocks.

that's what i'm assuming. more like top 15 imo. Kind of sad. that's the thing about getting great players. Better chance to win it all, but the window is much shorter due to early entry. Bill better get cracking on that 08 class. So who's going to be the favorite in the Big 12 next year? Texas is losing Durant. aTm is losing Law. Kansas is losing Wright and Rush. Looks like a down year for sure for the conference.

Yup, more than anything I would like to see the guy healthy. Obviously I would prefer if he was healthy with the Cubs but I would like to see him get back to being a strong pitcher.

Hey how about that, comparing a black quarterback who he thinks will be a bust, to the most notorious black quarterback bust in draft history! That's like every good young white forward being compared to Larry Bird. Did you even read the article? He doesn't just say "I think Russell is the next Akili Smith so Russell will suck". The same exact things that were being said about Akili Smith in 1999 are being said about Russell. Plus, he goes beyond just comparing the two players as he compares the two teams (1999 Bengals and 2007 Raiders) as well.

I think the Raiders should draft Matt Leinart with their first round pick this year. Oh wait, they had the chance to do that last year but passed on him. That's right. Almost forgot.

So according to you the Raiders should just go ahead and draft Troy Smith with the top overall pick then because he beat Michigan 3 times and generally (the title game this year being the exception) played well in the big games. Brilliant logic. EDIT: I'm not sold on Quinn as the top overall pick, but I like him a hell of a lot more than Russell and as the best QB in the draft.

If the Cubs want to trade Eyre, I'm sure they could find a trading partner. Hell, they were able to trade Neifi Perez last year so Eyre should be no problem.

The Cubs are already paying him for 2007. There's nothing the team can do about that. That means the Cubs have 5 months to see how the recovery process is going. This is way too early to decide that he's a lost cause.

But the fact is Dusty abused his guys more than any manager abused theirs. Lots of them are bad. But Dusty is the worst. I'm looking through the game logs from 2003 and he has so many 100+ ptich outings. He had 2 stretches when he had a long string of starts with over 100 pitches. One stretch was 12 consecutive starts with over a 100 pitches and another was 10 starts. These streaks were separated by 2 starts. Unreal. It's often argued that 110-115 pitches is a good limit for most veteran pitchers. But Prior was just 22, and he shouldn't have been throwing 120+ pitches. He averaged more pitches per start than Livan Hernandez. That's always a bad sign. At least Dusty didn't leave Prior in for 140+ like he did Wood. Game two of the 2003 NLCS, in which Dusty had Prior out there to throw 116 pitches in a 12-3 game, pretty much sums up the entire Dusty era for me. That was the epitome of stupid Dusty - games like that where he had no business leaving any pitcher in. I'm by no means a Dusty defender but I understand why he left Prior in during some of the games late in 2003. I understand that if you have a pitcher who is throwing well, you keep him in. But there has to be a limit as to how long you leave him in. If you have him throw 131 pitches on Sept 1, 2003 (a game I'll come back to) you CAN'T have him throw 129 pitches five days later in his next start. In 2003 Prior averaged 126 pitches per start in September which is just insane. Along with the NLCS game you mentioned, Prior's start against the Cardinals on Sept 1 was another good example. Cubs take a 6-0 lead after 5 innings and 7-0 lead after 6 innings. But Dusty leaves Prior in to throw 131 pitches in 8 innings. I mean, there was no reason at all to keep him out there for the eighth inning. Hell, he shouldn't have been out there in the seventh.

A lot of that slg% is singles driven because he has a jesus christ like .485 babip. When that goes down, and it surely will, that slugging percentage will plummet unless he starts hitting the ball out of the park again. This is very simple guys, I don't know how you keep getting it wrong. Jesus's BABIP was never above 440. Well that's cause he couldnt hit a curveball. That's what I was waiting for. It is like the whos Mark Buerhle joke, somebody has to say it. Too true.
