  1. The move Adu made on Altidore's second goal was absolutely outstanding. He also did a step over a couple minutes before that (I believe) and juked the Brazilian defender out of his shoes. I think he got fouled on that play. I only watched the second half but Adu was superb on the pitch today. They really need to give him a shot with the National Team because there's really no reason not to. Also, it was extremely refreshing after Brazil scored to tie the game, that both teams attacked and tried to get the winning goal even though, with a tie, both were assured of advancing. This was especially evident with Brazil because they had the most to lose - which they ended up doing. If this match was between two National Team squads in a tournament like this - including this exact situation where with a tie both teams advance - it would be all but a guarantee that the game would have ended in a tie. EDIT: Oh, and thanks, Raisin, for the the reminder that the game was on. I completely forgot that my parents get ESPNU (not that it mattered today with the game also being televised on ESPN) but I didn't even think about the game because of it until your post about the halftime score.
  2. I hate you Pittsburgh. Well, after the Brewers series, hate may be a strong word. Severely dislike works better.
  3. 32 runs allowed in two games on one day. That's gotta hurt the pitching staff.
  4. This is definitely good news. The Cubs can now plan for him to be back on he DL in early August.
  5. 10 days. Thanks. That's what I thought but I just wanted to make sure.
  6. I'm definitely optimistic at this point for both the division and the wild card because of the second half schedule. Even with the optimism there's still a small part of me (well not that small) that feels the Cubs are just going to end up letting me down.
  7. Definitely one of the most (if not for sure the most) talented Cubs teams I've seen. That team should have ripped through the league after the trade deadline And the most depressing thing looking back at the end of '04 is the starting pitching. Zambrano and Prior were unhitable. Rusch was even pitching out of his mind... but that bullpen :( I remember listening to a game against the Reds from September '04. Prior was flirting with 20K for the first half, kind of lost steam with the K's near the end but ended up with 16 or 18. Gave up a solo home run somewhere in the later innings and left after 9IP with a ND, and of course the Cubs lost it in extras. EDIT - Just looked it up, it was his last start of the year, sept. 30th, so I think the season was all but officially dead at that point. 9.0IP, 3H, 1R, 1ER, 1HR, 1BB, 16K Sosa had a solo HR Kearns had the HR against Prior Javier #$%^&^ Valentin doubled in the winning run.... Adam Dunn (who set the major league strikeout record for season that day) And a Rusch start where the only offensive support he got was a solo home run... that he hit. I followed that Prior game on Gamecast and had to leave after the ninth or tenth inning and was cursing the Cubs in the 8-10th innings for not scoring any runs for Prior.
  8. At the rate he's going Cabrera should have entered the hot dog eating contest on the Fourth.
  9. What a douche. A couple weeks before he's going to break the record and in his home park. Go out there and hit a couple into the water for the fans. I think sometimes people are going out of their way to knock Bonds. Who cares if he doesnt want to do the HR derby. Exactly, no one said anything about Griffey declining it. Look at what happened to Wright and Abreu after they did it, they weren't the same after. And Bonds' reasoning is understandable. He said he was drained completely after he did it in '96, and that's when it was only 2 rounds. Now it's three, and he's older. I know it's his home stadium, but that doesn't mean he HAS to do it. That's the reason people are ripping him. If the ASG was being held it any other park (with the exception of Oakland, maybe) it wouldn't matter at all which is why nobody is complaining that Griffey isn't doing it. But if the game were being held in Cincinnati and Griffey declined, people would be ripping him instead of Bonds. Maybe not as much but Griffey isn't about to break the biggest record in baseball.
  10. Because Lee will actually have to miss games when he serves his suspension whereas Young won't have to now.
  11. Unfortunately I will not be watching this game as I am going to the wonderful world of good food that is also free aka my parent's house.

  13. Let me just say...Thank you Pittsburgh. Thank you very much.
  14. Technically he should have been DQ'd because of a "Reversal of Fortune".
  15. Is it 10 days or 10 games that a player has to spend in AAA before he can be called back up?
  16. Holy crap. I knew Cedeno was tearing it up at AAA but I didn't know he was doing THAT well. Promote him immediately.
  17. That is a better deal for both teams. Joe Saunders and Eric Aybar might be enough to get that deal Dunn (Ha, Ha) Dunn is the perfect example of how overvalued OBP really is. Don't misunderstand, getting on base is important but it does not trump all other offensive stats. There is a reason that for nearly 100 years the only stats that people would recite about players were BA, HR & RBI. Dunn has some things going for him but not a lot. He can hit the Ball VERY far when he connects but is ultimately the 4th best HR hitter on the Cubs should he be picked up. Does 1 team really need that many HR hitters? 4 Solo HR is the same as 2 2 Run HR. Finding a good balance through the entire order makes better sense. See the Red Sox, Brewers & Angels this season as an example (although there are some holes on each team). Um...not exactly. Right now Dunn has 23 home runs this year. The most any Cub has right now is 15 (ARam and Soriano). So how does that make him the fourth best home run hitter should he be picked up? And who, since I'm assuming you mean Aram and Soriano are the top 2 on the Cubs, would be the third best home run hitter on the Cubs? Lee? DeRosa? Floyd? Now if you said that Dunn would be the fourth best hitter on the Cubs if he got picked up, that I could agree with (behind DLee, ARam, and Soriano) but there is no way Dunn would be the fourth best HR hitter on the Cubs. That statement is just absurd.
  18. I'm thinking TT should protest if he loses.
  19. Unfortunately, I believe you will be proven correct. While Truffle's probably right about a, I'm still holding out a little hope Hendry will find a way to bring in Salty. I can understand a) and c) But on b) -- how will soto get no chance when its Hendry keeping him out and Hendry's days with the Cubs are numbered? b) and c) go hand in hand. Hendry's job is effectively on the line right now with this season and frankly, if he's too stupid to realize that calling up Soto to the Cubs might actually help the team and therefore help Hendry keep his job, he deserves to be fired.
  20. That's good stuff. A couple weeks ago Dallas Braden - who was on the River Cats at the time but is now with the A's - jokingly said that the next time he faced a certain hitter that he was just going to throw a 75 mph fastball in the middle of the guy's back because that hitter fouled off about 15 pitches, he saw 25 total, in two at bats against Braden.
  21. I vote for a knuckleball.
  22. So how long does this thing stay open for?
