  1. Before Hill batted I think Len and Bob said it was a 30 minute half inning.
  2. As long as the Cubs take 3 of 4 it's okay.
  3. We only got one run off Lincecum on two hits.
  4. Man, you're awfully generous. Scott Eyre on the B-team?
  5. At least they have Lincecum and Cain. The Cubs didn't have any young pitchers throw well until Hill came up in August.
  6. What Z needs is a 1-2-3 inning here. The baine of this team has been giving runs back immediately after a big inning. Well something will have to give then because the Giants don't score any runs when Cain is pitching.
  7. We should take guesses on what Matt Cain is pitching right now. I'll go with: "Oh well, might as well chalk up another one in the loss column for me." Note: This was before Koyie's 2 run double.
  8. This is going to be a very low scoring game at least from the Cubs' end. There's no way the lineup is going to generate much off of Cain.
  9. I'm spot starting for earth2sean today. This guy http://assets.espn.go.com/i/mlb/profiles/players/65x90/7495.jpg 3-10, 3.53 ERA, 1.35 WHIP vs. this guy http://assets.espn.go.com/i/mlb/profiles/players/65x90/6559.jpg 11-7, 3.83 ERA, 1.28 WHIP Hopefully the Giants continue giving Cain little to no run support and the Cubs can give Z more than enough. Earth2sean, regardless of the outcome today, you're up for the 7/19 game thread.
  10. cedeno should be starting. no doubt. if you're against this you're against winning. Yes, if Cedeno could carry the productivity that he has down in AAA up to the Majors then he should be starting everyday. Yet so far especially earlier this season he wasn't doing that, if his plate discipline has improved then we should give him a shot because I've always liked him as a player. The Cubs SS's this year (DeRosa 4 AB's, Fontenot 10 AB's, Theriot 128 AB's, Izturis 184 AB's, Cedeno 22 AB's) have an OPS of .642. Theriot and Izturis combined have an OPS of .637 this year. Cedeno in 225 AB's in AAA has an OPS of .998. Even if he has a dropoff of .300 (which is a HUGE dropoff) that would still make him better than what Izturis and Theriot are currently putting up.
  11. What's funny is that after his double, I posted in the game thread that someone in the media was going to complain aboutthe bat flip/stare, despite the fact that: -He made it to 2nd easily -He wasn't getting a triple -It was a game winning hit Someone almost immediately said it would be Paul Sullivan. What's even funnier is that after 3.5 years of being nothing but productive, and signing a contract last winter for at least $20m below his market value, there are still media guys who clamor for him to be more like Jacque Jones, of all people. Unreal. I don't know if anybody read any of the comments attached to the blog entry - I didn't really read all of them, just scrolled down and happened to find this gem: The rest of the reply was about clutch hitting or something but I've got to give the guy/girl credit for this line.
  12. I couldn't agree more. I'm not condoning throwing anything on the field and would never do it, but like you said, I can sort of understand a blown lead, but not when the team takes the lead. Then it's just stupid. I was listening on the radio with the Giants announcers and they had no idea what was going on either and were wondering why the Cubs fans were throwing stuff onto the field when their team just went ahead.
  13. Actually, I take le Batard's baseball knowledge more than Wilbon's. I don't know many of the stats he knows but he's clearly not in the completely old school mentality. A couple Wilbon quotes from the other day: "I don't care about OPS! That sounds like -- what is that, OPS is a rap title?" "Long before anyone discovered on base plus slugging, people talked about runs scored, batting average, and hits in a season!" -courtesy of FJM
  14. In 2005 Clemens got 5 no decisions in games the Astros lost 1-0. They also scored 0 runs in nine of his starts that year.
  15. Steve carlton's "27 wins on a 59 win team" thing in 1972 is pretty overblown too That's just amazing that he was able to get that many wins for such a bad team. Not that he didn't earn them with his 1.97 ERA that year.
  16. Maybe if Hendry told teams that Pagan is Carlos Beltran Jr. somebody would bite.
  17. I'm indifferent. Yes, the Cubs picked up a guy who is having an abysmal season. But on the other hand, the catchers the team had up were doing less than nothing anyway and they're only paying $900K the rest of the year for Kendall.
  18. It's got to be the Bowner.
