  1. Suck it, Yankees.
  2. Isn’t that kind of a double edged sword? A 9-1 game means Taillon probably goes 6-7 and saves our pen too.
  3. Well nobody did catch it with ordinary effort so… I mean it’s a tough one. Umps clearly waited because it looked like the Cubs weren’t going to catch it. Then they didn’t catch it. Seems like whichever way they ruled, a manager would have been mad.
  4. Sp you’re saying it wasn’t smart to have lined him up to start Games 2 and 5 in Milwaukee?
  5. Dodgers are the anti-Cubs. They’ve scored 4+ runs in 13 straight playoff games which is tied with the 1970-71 Orioles for the longest streak in history.
  6. Yes, if you take away all the good things a player does, he actually sucks!
  7. You said he gets pretty much every bit of his value from his glove. That’s not true.
  8. The MLB average OPS was .719. Nico was .739. And that’s not factoring in positions.
  9. Seriously. If Nico was doing the same stuff he’s currently doing except you changed a few doubles to be HRs, we’d be thinking of him the same way we were thing about PCA in June. Just changing 13 doubles to HRs to give him 20 for the year puts him at a .782 OPS. Presumably, if he had 20 HR power but maintained his speed, there would probably be some doubles that would turn into triples and singles that would turn into doubles so he’s likely over an .800 OPS. Seiya had a .804 OPS this year which was a 130 OPS+. Peak Chase Utley was a 130-140 OPS+ hitter. Plus Gold Glove defense. That’s a guy who should be in MVP consideration.
  10. The other problem with Boyd going in 1 and 4 is you’ve set Shota up to go 2 and 5 in Milwaukee. Or if you’re going to go a pen game in Game 5, why not just do that in Game 1, then go Boyd-Shota-Taillon-Boyd so you have nobody going on short rest. Shota pitches in Wrigley and you hope the wind is blowing in.
  11. 07: 3-0 sweep 08: 3-0 sweep 15: 4-0 sweep 17: 4-1 (down 3-0) 18: 1 run in 13 innings in WC game 20: 2-0 sweep 25: down 2-0 Cubs sure know how to get wiped out of a playoff series. I mean, they're all losses so the outcome isn't good, but you'd think there would be a few more 3-1/3-2/4-2's in there.
  12. Cubs went 7-0 against the Mets in 2015. Want to guess how the NLCS went?
  13. LOL. Sure, in between those two starts where he gave up 15 combined runs, he wasn't that bad!
  14. Fun fact! Misiorowski is actually a month older than Holmgren.
  15. That wouldn’t have mattered. Boyd and Shota are cooked at this point.
  16. Shota over 1.5 runs allowed and over 2.5 runs allowed was such easy money.
  17. Phillies have Castellanos on 2nd with no out in the 9th down 1 and they bunt. Unsurprisingly he gets thrown out at 3rd. The next batter singled to left.
  18. Shota is fine today. Hopefully he can get through 4 or 5 allowing 0 or 1 run and we can turn to the pen with the off day tomorrow.
  19. So you’re saying a competent organization should be all in on Bryce Young because all he needs is to get out of Carolina?
  20. That could be since both those wins were in Toronto. Just listened to the call at the end and he says “first playoff win in 24 years”. But would make sense if he just read the fact wrong or forgot to say “home”.
  21. Announcer in the Seattle game said twice they haven’t won a playoff game in 24 years as if their two wins in the WC series in 2022 didn’t count.
  22. Yes, I would have much preferred to roll the dice with one of the other guys than starting a guy on 3 days rest when we know there's a track record of guys on 3 days rest pitching poorly. And again, those guys who typically go on 3 days rest are your ace types who are much better pitchers than Matthew Boyd. According to The Athletic, pitchers in the WC era have made 158 starts on three days rest, their teams won 66 of those games, and they compiled a 4.47 ERA in those starts. So if really good pitchers turn into average pitchers on 3 days, what do you think an average pitcher is going to turn into? Because Matthew Boyd isn't an ace. He had a 5.51 ERA in his last 9 starts or a 4.63 ERA since the ASB. Yes, the Cubs very easily could have lost this game starting Rea or Assad. But starting Boyd was a bad decision and it backfired as poorly as possible. Also, the fact that a SP wasn't on the WC roster doesn't really matter than much. It was a 3 game series so of course a SP or two is going to get left off.
