  1. 3-1 is the most dangerous lead in soccer today apparently.
  2. So what’s the purpose of eliminating the away goals rule? As far as I can tell, there’s very little positive benefit. You’re likely to get less exciting 2nd legs because any score that ties the aggregate will lead to extra time rather than just the exact score of the first leg. So if the 1st leg is 1-0 and the second leg is 2-1, in the past, the home team would really have to go for it. Now both teams are going to be more cautious. It’s going to lead to more games going to extra time and therefore more games going to penalties, and anything that leads to more games going to shootouts is a bad thing. If they got rid of the away goals rule if a game goes to extra time, so if both legs end with the same score, that I might be okay with. But I just don’t see any notable positives to this but major negatives.
  3. by my calculations that was already guaranteed Mets: 4-3 Padres: 5-1 Dodgers: 4-0 13-4, worst case scenario is 13-7 I assume he meant each of the teams individually. Cubs were 3-0 against LA before yesterday with 4 games left.
  4. Should probably bench him for not having knowing the game situation.
  5. Pujols in particular looked way overmatched.
  6. You good? Long day, typed that w/o my glasses and it must have autocorrected before I hit reply On the contrary, it seems like you had a couple too many glasses. Or maybe the perfect amount!
  7. The pitchers who are complaining about being checked after every inning, I agree that they’re just complaining over nothing. But what Girardi did was absurd and he’s a horsefeathering moron.
  8. I had the same thought about there not being a better view. There was another replay late there they kept showing the zoomed out view and I was wondering why they weren’t showing a better view.
  9. Top half of the draw is rough. Two best teams (or at least two of the top 3) in the bottom half playing each other in the R16.
  10. That’s a great final play from Phoenix.
  11. Sounds like Ross only yanked Javy because he lost track of the outs which makes me dislike him even more. If it was a pattern of behavior that would be different but this seems like Ross overreacting to one mistake when the team is struggling.
  12. First time since 1994 that neither 1 seed made the conference finals.
  13. …and Ross booted him out of the game Cleveland immediately gets an infield hit on a play Javy would've easily made. Today's going great How many times has Rizzo been yanked after the 2500 Tootblan’s he’s had over the last couple years?
  14. NCAA: We suck so much that we got R’s and D’s to agree on something!
  15. Rondo has 91 career playoff games where he played 30+ minutes and in only 4 of those did he take 6 or fewer shots. Two of those were in the 2008 season when he was a 21 year old second year player. Simmons had three games this series of 30+ minutes and 4 or fewer shots. Simmons isn’t a bad player and he can still be a valuable regular season player. But the playoffs are different. Teams exploit weakness way more in the playoffs than the regular season. This wasn’t a bad shooting stretch. He’s a headcase at the moment. How else do you explain him only taking 3 shots total in the 4th quarters of the 7 games other than him being terrified to get fouled? At this point, I think we’re much more likely to see this type of play from him continue into next year. What’s going to happen to him in the regular season the first time a team starts fouling him in the 4th quarter? Maybe it won’t carry over to the regular season. And maybe he’ll figure something out and it won’t happen in the playoffs next year. But he’s in his own head right now and I don’t think you can count on him to be the second best player on a contender in the playoffs.
  16. Oof Embiid throwing him under the bus postgame: https://twitter.com/rich_hofmann/status/1406817068813635586?s=21 For those that didn’t watch, Sixers were down 2 late, Simmons had an uncontested layup/dunk at the rim but instead inexplicably passed it to Thybulle who was fouled and only made 1 of 2. Even that undersells it. Trae Young was coming at him too. At least if it’s Collins/Capela you could maybe argue that they’re more likely to be able to block/impede the shot or foul him without allowing him to make the shot. But Trae Young isn’t doing horsefeathers there other than letting you dunk. [tweet] [/tweet]
  17. Lol Simmons took 3 shots total in the 4th quarter this series.
  18. Ben Simmons shot attempts by game: 7, 3, 11, 10, 4, 6, 4. I know he’s not a 15 shot a game guy but that’s embarrassing. They’re not going to foul you the whole game and if they do, fine because then five guys will foul out.
  19. Bud probably thought his job was safe after beating the Nets but if they lose the Hawks series he’s gone.
  20. Doc’s lucky he got that one title otherwise he’d be known as the coach that blows series his team has no business losing.
  21. Ben Wallace was slightly worse over an entire season. That Simmons stretch is 33.8%. Wallace was 80-238 for 33.6% in 2000-2001.
  22. [tweet] [/tweet] Nash 396-440 Simmons 24-71
  23. After hitting two yesterday.
  24. No matter who makes the Finals it’s going to be a weird matchup. Sixers have the last title in 1983. Plus it’s not like any of these teams even usually make the conference finals.
  25. Yeah, the lack of situational awareness on that possession was nuts. Also, Jrue needs to stop shooting. You’re 5-23. It’s not your night, dude.
