  1. Seconded! I'm going to go against the grain and say I would not make this trade. I would be willing to part with all of those prospects for a bat that would be the centerpiece of our lineup. Tejada, however, would be the third best hitter in our lineup. Not worth it, IMO. In his MVP year, (awarded mostly because of his 131 RBIs) he had an .862 OPS. His career OPS is .815. This guy is good, not great. I think if we took that package and threw in Harvey, we could pry Miguel Cabrera away. Much younger, and would instantly be the #1 bat in our lineup. Cedeno/Cabrera>>>>Tejada/2nd tier RF Party pooper...
  2. What in the earth is SoSh? Sons of Sam Hahn-Red Soaks message bard Thanks. Could Boston put together a package better than the Cubs and would the O's want to trade within their division? Sure it they are prepare to offer any and or all of the following: Abe Alvarez/Manny Delcarmen/Jonathan Papelbon/Andy Marte, with Marte being the "centerpiece." Boston isn't going to land Tejada, I think anybody with a brain knows that Baltimore ain't trading him to Boston. Perferably, they want him out of the AL, but they still will take the best offer, AL or NL. (Hopefully the Cubs offer, entices them)
  3. What they think they are the front-runners for Tejada? Yeah, there right...they are the "Front-runners" at watching Tejada go to the Cubs or Angels.
  4. First: Possibly getting Tejada would be one heck of a Christmas present. Second: As much as those knuckleheads in Boston think they can get Tejada, I simply don't see Baltimore trade Tejada for Ramirez. Now if Boston would offer Marte, Peplobon (sp?), Declarman and/or Alvarez, then I believe Baltimore would be more interested. Baltimore ain't going to take theheacache that is Ramirez for Tejada. Third: I would rate the Cubs as the 2nd most likely team to get Tejada, just behind the Angels....The Angels have Aybar/Hendrick/Woood/Callespo (sp?) that they could use, then add in either MacPherson/Kotchman, and maybe Shields or Santana....The Angels could DWARFED the Cubs in offer. But, if I was Jim, I still put my best offer on the table.
  5. my opinion of these offers Agreed. The Orioles would DEMAND Milledge and Seo also in the deal. Don't know if Minyaya would do tho. No. Even tho they've sign prolly the two most overrated picthers on the markets, they are getting awfully close to the budget limited---which i heard is about $75 million. So I believe the Blue Jays are not really a match. Besides that have Aaron Hill and Russ Adams who are both natural SS, and cheaper. The Blue Jays would have to offer Adams/Hill, Dustin McGowan, and prolly another prospect. Don't think they will go overbudget for Tejada, thus they are not really a fit for the Orioles. Try Kendrick/Aybar/Wood (one of the three) prolly Shields, and Kotchman. The Angels COULD feesibly make a strong run at Tejada, but wouldn't that go against Tejada's wish of "staying on the East Coast?" Not that he has a choice, but he may not be happy about going back to Cali. Atleast the Cubs would still be NEAR the EC. They don't have the money to make the deal. The Padres barely re-sign Hoffman/Giles, so I don't think they trade a very solid productive SS (who is cheap) for a player making almost 10 times as much. Granted Tejada would give the West to the Padres, but I don't see Towers doing that trade. And the fact that the Orioles are in no hurry to trade Tejada within the division. Boston is not a feesible destination, unless they get a 3rd team into the deal. It isn't so much the talent package, but it the combination of the talent, contender status, and the money (assuming after he is dealt, he would have the right to demand a trade after 2006) needed to re-sign Tejada after he choose to use his "right to demand a trade."
  6. There is an clause that is kicked in, automatically (see Javier Vazquez) that allows a player the "right to demand a trade" if he is dealt in the middle of a multi-year contract. So yes, Tejada has that right now, if he is dealt.
  7. Guys.....there would be a BIG concern if the Cubs or any other team acquires Miguel Tejada. That concern is that Tejada could OPT out of his contract after the 2006 season, seeing he maybe dealt during a contract. And with the contract that Furcal got, and what Renteria and Cabrera got last yr....I am willing to bet, unless some team rips up his current contract, and signs him to a NEW contract starting at $15 million, Tejada is must assuredly going to opt out after the 2006 season. So the question is....are the Cubs willing to go $15 mill per for 5 yrs for Tejada, provided they acquire him?
  8. http://www.forums.mlb.com/n/mb/message.asp?webtag=ml-yankees&msg=179127.13&ctx=0 I know, I know....this isn't the most credible info on the net, but the fact that Stark believes the Cubs are the favorites (not saying much) if Tejada is truly available.
  9. It's not because of that...the only three teams he doesn't have on the NTC is Padres, Angels, and Dodgers. Meaning Green's wife, is prolly from Cali, and she doesn't want to leave Cali...
  10. mlbtraderumors.com (I know, I know....don't shot the messenger) mention the D'backs could offer Josh Kroeger for Corey. I don't know who the kid is...so if somebody knows....It would be a stuggling OF (Kroeger is 22, which could peak my interests, a little bit) for a struggling OF...
  11. No he won't, and I can guarantee it. Jones is looking for a 3 yr deal...the Cubs ain't interested in a 3 yr deal. That's simple. Besides Hendry has basically said he is going to fill RF through trade. But hey...Jones would like really nice in Cardinal red, striking out to Dempster in the 9th, tho.
  12. The Pirates are NOW offering Marte or John Grabow for Bradley...So much for the Dodgers non-tendering Bradley. I'm thinking the Cubs would have to part with Walker (Mueller is considering a 3 yr deal with the Pirates, mind you) and maybe Williams.
  13. I'd go Welly for JD Closser....With Audoin and Torrealba expected to split time, and Ojeda also within the org...I think the Cubs could use a guy like Closser at AAA, and have him take over as backup catcher in 2007.
  14. Well, then Romero wasn't the only one who have a "problem with Gardenhire." If memory serves me well...didn't either Kyle Lohse or Joe Mays have a run-in with Gardenhire? If you are going to trade Romero, don't just dump him, get something of value back. They could had gotten atleast Aybar or Izturis for him.
  15. I tend to think if he doenst make it to Chicago this year, it wont matter what his options are in 2007, no one will take him. you have to think if he is healthy at all this season, he gets a call up-even just for the bullpen I disagree minnesotacubsfan. By spring of 2007 Guzman will be ALL of 25 yrs old. If he doesn't stick with the Cubs---which I believe he will---some team is going to take the gamble on Guzman.
  16. :-k Now don't get me wrong, I think the Erye signing was solid, but dang if Romero was available for this cheap, I would had prefer to go after Romero instead of Erye...Kendrick or Wood would have been out of the question, but the Twins could had easily gotten Erick Aybar, Alberto Callaspo or Maicer Izturis for Romero. And now the Angels get another very good, yet LEFTY reliever to go into that already top level bullpen. :-k For the Twins =D> For the Angels
  17. First: Soriano must be the most selfish, least understanding ballplayer in the majors. If he stays at 2b, while a unique talent for the position, his value is limited to a few teams. Now if Soriano would play the OF (and add that to his resume) he would add more value and thus have more teams after him. At least in the OF Soriano defensive shortcomings could be hidden. Ron Gant's value went up after he went from the IF to the OF. Sheffield's value went through the roof, when he move from 3B to RF. And heck even Robin Yount value skyrocketing after he move from SS to CF. Soriano simply don't understand marketability. Second: On Vidro....just keep Walker. I like Vidro, but I prefer Walker to Vidro any day of the week. Not to mention we have a nice looking, better suited for the majors Patterson coming up that plays 2b. No thank you on Vidro.
  18. No, he apparently wants a trade. Then we argued about Tejada. actually, about walker Sorry to hijack the thread....but Conine is close to rejoining the Orioles (2 stints with the Royals, two stints with the Marlins, and NOW 2 stints with the Orioles....what a nut). I wonder if that will change Tejada's mind about leaving?
  19. He gone. I don't think Manny is as "gone" as people think. I personally believe Boston is gonna tell Manny to sit down, shut up, and enjoy the vastly overpaid contract he got fro Duquette and stop acting the fool. The Red Sox simply can't get FULL VALUE for Manny, thus...Manny stays.
  20. True...and the Mets offer would lived them with KAZ MATSUI (or Grudzielanek, if he signs) as leadoff, and that would be very mediocre. I'm just saying the Mets are the only team that I see that could rival the Cubs, in terms of being able to absorb the contract, and offer the right young players (and no Baltimore wouldn't trade Miggy to Boston). So Baltimore would have to weigh possibly alienating their fan base .v. getting rid of a possible "problem." But considering who they HAD in 2005, I bet there is nothing Tejada could do that would embarrass the Orioles, the way Palmeiro and Sosa embarrass the team.
  21. Regardless, of what people think, I believe the Cubs have enough to tempt the Orioles (Pie, Cedeno to begin with) into moving Tejada. But a couple of questions would have to be asked: 1: Even with Tejada requesting to be dealt, does Baltimore have the courage to move the current face of the franchise? 2: If they do contemplate moving Tejada, will this be vindication for Tejada and and justified Tejada's comment, that the Orioles lack a "direction?" 3: With the Nats having a great first season in the area, and Orioles coming off a very rough season, does the mini-Steinbrenner---Angelos---wants to alienated more fans by moving Tejada, which in turn would drive "Orioles fans" into the arms of the Nationals? I do think it is a long shot for the Orioles to move Tejada, but I do believe if they are going to move him, the Cubs do have enough to tempt him. The biggest "rival" for Tejada would be the Mets. I mean Reyes (Cedeno), Milledge (Pie), Nady (Dopirak) would be just as equally as tempting as the Cubs offer. But it doesn't hurt to ask.....
  22. I am not enomored by the move, but like I said in the thread about his acquisition, people have been pretty absurd in trying to diminish his skills. I remember a year ago when arguments were being made about Walker leading off for the Cubs, some people who are currently bashing the deal were making this point: obp in a leadoff man is most important, but how often the batter reaches second base is critically important as well when it comes to scoring runs. in that respect, you compare how often Pierre is able to reach second base on his own to Wilkerson or Walker, it adds value that Walker and Wilkerson can't necessarily bring. for a rough calculation, I'll use 2b + 3b + HR + SB(x.9). 2005 was a down year for Pierre and Wilkerson and an injury year for Walker: Pierre 85 Wilkerson 67 Walker 41 (in 400 ABs, let's say 61 over 600 ABs) 2004 was by far Wilkerson's best year, arguably for Pierre too, and a illogically benched year for Walker Pierre 77 Wilkerson 85 (do have to give a huge edge for all the dingers, but will he ever repeat that? shouldn't the homers he didn't hit in DC have turned into doubles last year? they didn't.) Walker 38 (about 61 over 600) for some reason I don't see the people that advocate Wilkerson, and bashing Pierre, pointing to the value reaching second on your own has to scoring runs even though many of them spoke of it last year when advocating for Walker for leadoff. I don't like Pierre's stolen base percentage. I think it should be in the 80s to be an effective gamble. last year Pierre attempted 74 stolen bases. to have an 80 percent success rate he would have needed 60 sb. he had 57. three outs (sure, there are probably some pickoffs to work in there.) big deal. I'd much rather have him on second or beyond on his own at the rate he does get there. also, to diminish his skills, everybody is acting like the sole aspect of speed is the stolen base. while wilkerson, and to a lesser extent walker, are both good baserunners, Pierre brings the following more regularly than the Ws: score from second on a single go from first to third on a single score from first on a double score from third on a groundball or flyout turn dps into fc to first go from second to third on a groundball up the middle Walker is probably my favorite Cub, and I would love to add Wilkerson, but the lengths people go through to say that they would be every bit the leadoff hitter that Pierre is goes a little far. let's look at the entire picture, not just the additional slg and leave it at that. obp is the most important factor for a leadoff hitter, but Pierre's speed in the leadoff spot will lead to alot of scoring opportunities and avoid alot of outs, that would have been runners stranded and outs if it were Walker and Wilkerson out there. So essentially what your saying in the simpliest form is that, "any time Pierre reaches base, he is automatically in scoring position." Works for me....and I do expect Pierre to get back to his career norms of .305/.355 (and no I am NOT worried or concern about power from Pierre, cause that is not his game)
  23. I'd gladly let the Blue Jays get Bradley, if it meant the Cubs landing Miguel Tejada..
  24. With the Dodgers closing in on Bill Mueller, Todd Walker becomes LESS viable for the Dodgers. But, I highly doubt the Dodgers are interested in Batista, simply because Batista isn't that good. I still say Bradley will end up with the Cubs...
