  1. Not all of us need to dye our head red. Some of us are naturally gifted.
  2. Recently the umps have been making bad/rude calls against the Cubs. So there MIGHT be some credence to jjigman theory.
  3. I wouldn't want Jason on the Cubs...because his season will never again go unquestion. You have to constantly put up :-s about his season. I want players who unquestionably clean, not players who you have doubts about. http://i2.photobucket.com/albums/y44/cubsfan_05/headline.jpg Could you be any more condescending with your post, TT?
  4. I prefer signing Pena to giving up a good player for Clark. The difference between the two is not enough to give up a good prospect for, IMO. Plus, Tony isn't exactly off to a hot start this season. Maybe so, but I don't think Pena is going to sign with the Cubs, when there are teams that have bigger needs for a 1st basemen. I do think Clark makes more sense for the Cubs then Pena, tho. I think Pena would be well served to sign with the Cubs. He knows he'd get to play everyday for at least 2 months, long enough to show what he's got. He would likely be traded after Lee returns. IIRC, Pena was out of a job for a while before the Yanks signed him, so it's not like he will have a ton of suitors. I know short-term the Cubs would be an ideal fit for Pena, but as I mentioned earlier, the Cubs DON'T have a legit RH pop off the bench, unless you count Hairston and Blanco as RH pop off the bench. Signing Pena would make the Cubs too predictable with their options off the bench. I wouldn't lose any sleep over Pena, but he wouldn't be my first choice. I'd still prefer Choi (if the Cubs were going after a lefty first baseman) to Pena, and I'd prefer Clark to both.

  6. Dusty Baker, Matt Murton, Greg Maddux, and Sean Marshall. RIGHT now, Sean Marshall is definately the leading candidate for ROY. Question is...will he be up at the major league levels long enough to qualify.
  7. That's a darn good point. Pena's OBP is consistently 90 - 100 points over his BA. If you could get the guy to hit just .275, he'd likely have nos as good or better than Clark's, and he's 10 yrs younger. The problem with Pena, is that the Cubs have too MANY lefty handed bats off the bench. They NEED a RH pop off the bench, hence the reason why the momentum is toward acquiring Clark, and not Pena. Clark is much better as a LH hitter though. Not really. I just look at his career numbers, and they are close. He has more pop from the left side, but he has solid pop from the right side. Clark knows that his role would be, and is willing to accept it. Carlos is still young enough to believe he can start, which he wouldn't get with the Cubs in less then 2 months. It's no question...I prefer Clark (and give up Wuertz, or some decent arm, ONE arm that's it) to Pena. His career numbers are pretty irrelevant at this stage of his career compared to the last 3 years. Last 3 years as a lefty: .255/.323/.569/.892 as a righty: .264/.334/.464/.798 He's not bad as a RH hitter, but significantly better from the left hand side. I still prefer Clark to Pena.
  8. I disagree. Its never to early to start thinking about it, cuz you only play some teams 2 home and away. You don't start thinking about the Wild Card till LATE June at the easliest(EARLIEST). As otis so blountly put it..."it's waaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaay to early to start thinking WC." easliest is my new favorite word. :D
  9. For the love of GAWD, please put down what you are smoking cause it is clouding your judgement.

  11. =D> to Sean Marshall. He was APPARENTLY the only one who got the message that there was a GAME today. to the rest of the club, for letting a ROOKIE show up and the rest of youse bums (phony Brooklyn accent) decide this was an off day.

  14. Couple of statements that make you want to :x : The Cubs are in the bottom 10 of baseball in total offense. Only the likes of the Marlins/Royals/Pirates holding the Cubs from being the worst in baseball. (Don't get me wrong, A's, Angels, and the Phillies are also in the realm). The Cubs are also the SECOND worse offense in the NL Central...just who's worse? If Greg Maddux wasn't pitching as well as he is....you realize the Cubs could be 8-15 RIGHT now? Maddux is keeping the Cubs from being a totally crappy team. Gosh....this ORGANIZATION never learns....It's like watching a dog try and catch it's tail.

  16. I may sound abit paranoid, but the last week or so, the Cubs has had some VERY bad calls and or crappy umping against them. It's never fun when you are not only having to play against the other team's nine, but the 4 supposedly "unbias" men who were the "blue".
  17. The Cubs want to get rid of Rusch, and I need a batting practice pitcher for my nephew's little league team. So...I'm offering the backup first base bag, and a pair of s40 yr old cleats for Glendon Rusch? My teams really needs the hitting practice. Is it a deal?
  18. To be fair this is Tony Clark's numbers at Wrigley. I know, I know it is only 16 at-bats, and a very small sample, but still it is encouraging: .313 .389 .688 1.077
  19. I don't buy Prior wanting to leave the Cubs. I HONESTLY believe that like the fans, Mark Prior is fully frustrated with his time in Chicago. He knows he can help the Cubs. And just because he is from Californai doesn't mean he wants "to go home." What kind of reasoning is that? Prior will eventually get healthy, and will be one of the game's best very soon. Patient is a virtue that must be applied.
  20. Sad thing is...the were running promo about a "1 hour special" of the Yanks/Red Sox rivalry before it starts up again? When do the Cubs/Cards, Dodgers/Giants, White Sox/Indians, get their "1 hour specials?" God, I hate ESPN and their blatantly bias towards the two spoil brats of teams of the Yanks/Red Sox.
  21. The Cubs before Lee's injury: 7-4 5.72 offensively per game 4.63 pitching per game The Cubs since Lee left the field with the wrist injury: 6-6 3.58 offensively per game 5.08 pitching per game After watching the Cubs give up 25 runs in two games, and counter that with 2 RUNS. Baker needs to lay into them. But wait....since Baker needs to keep his "player's manager" persona in full force, I doubt Baker will do anything. This team clearly needs a SPARK.
  22. If the Cubs don't get their heads out of each others booty, I won't matter should the Cubs try for Abreu, it would be what can the Cubs get for Maddux, Walker, Pierre, and perhaps Hairston.
  23. Look what people are not thinking about is that...this may have been the "Brewers it series" in terms that they were going to hit WHOEVER the Cubs put on the mound. No rhyme or reason, just they were going to see the ball alot better then the Cubs. It happens. You just have to shake your head, and move on. Z not throwing the ball well, consistantly. But the Cubs dodge a bullet, the season isn't a sprint, it's a marathon, which gives Z time to get his game back.
  24. Considering the Cubs recent history with dealing with high drafted talented pitchers, I would be mad, if they didn't bring Pawelek slowly. Blasko, Christensen, Hagerty, Clanton, and the beat goes on to high draft picks that has suffered injuries early in their careers. If they want to move Pawelek slowly, I would be more the ready to agree with them.
