  1. I still don't regret the Cubs not trading Prior for Tejada. Because I have absolutely love what Cedeno has done so far. While Tejada has the name recognization, Cedeno gives the Cubs financial flexibility---if needed---to make a trade at the deadline, if needed. Besides, Tejada is slightly overrated, due to the East Coast bias. I like a healthy Prior and Cedeno over Tejada and Bedard.
  2. Well, Andy said a team could never have enough pitching. But I prefer the saying "a team could never have enough GOOD pitching."
  3. I find it disturbing that Hendry had to REFUTE this story. The ONLY reason why Hendry would EVEN consider Sweeney, is if Lee would be out longer then the 2 months. Which I found doubtful. And did anybody here see the Cards picking up stud OF Timo Perez from the Reds. It's moves like this...that will keep the Cubs in the hunt.
  4. You are correct. Instead of moving Barrett to 1st, and having Blanco catch....which would NOT be an improvement--considering Perez is the emergency catch--how about the Cubs go out and get a legit backup 1st base. (I like Mabry in the lefty pinch hitting specialist role) It's bad enough the Cubs have Walker GROSSLY playing out of position at first, do we NEED another player playing out of position. I rather see if Wil Cordero (power RH bat off the bench, perfect platoon with Mabry) could be had. Or Shea Hillenbrand, or somebody of that nature. Cordero/Mabry would be a nice righty/lefty off the bench once Lee returns.
  5. Tough call. I like Wright better as a more consistent hitter over the long term I think. But Cabrera has added value because he can play three, if not four, positions on the field, and play all of them with at least acceptable defense. Wright seems like more of clubhouse guy, while Cabrera has quickly earned a reputation as a bit of a horse's ass. I guess if push REALLY came to shove, I'd take Wright. I can understand that, Don, but Aramis was known as a lazy bum in Pittsburgh, but that seem to change as he GOT OLDER as a player. Something tells me, Miggy will mature as he gets older. I absolutely love Wright, but Cabrera to ME, seems more like a franchise player, then Wright. To me...Cabrera has that Pujols type feel to him as a player, where as Wright has more of a Scott Rolen feel. Not saying being compare to Rolen is a bad thing, I'm saying that Cabrera, to me is more a FRANCHISE/IMPACT player then Wright, regardless of "attitudes in the clubhouse."
  6. Garland is back to being the same crappy pitcher he also was. 2005 was a FLUKE for Garland, and the start to the 2006 season, I believe proves it. The Garland/Karchner trade in hindsight, was really a young crappy pitcher, for an older crappy pitcher. No loss. Losing Wuertz to the Sox would pissed me off, more then losing Garland. Why are you shocked? Garland had ONE fluke season in his career, and this yr, he's back to being the CRAPPY pitcher he's always been, just more expensive. Wuertz can be a serviceable middle relief guy. So losing Wuertz would hurt more then losing Garland.
  7. I prefer his brother Mike, who is ALREADY an outstanding pitching coach. And history says...GREAT players don't make great coaches.
  8. That's funny, cause I'd prolly wouldn't trade Cabrera for Wright. Cabrera is still the best young hitter in the NL East, if NOT all NL/MLB. The difference between Wright and Cabrera, is that Cabrera has NO LEGITIMATE major league hitter protecting him, whereas Wright has Delgado, Floyd and Beltran and to a lesser degree Lo Duca protecting Wright. I slightly take Cabrera, mainly because he is 4 months younger then Wright, and has ALREADY 2 thirty homerun season/110+ rbis seasons under his belt. I like Wright, but I love Miguel Cabrera game, more.
  9. There are not many players in baseball for whom I'd trade Wright. Very, very few. who would you rather have - ryan zimmerman or david wright? David Wright now(). But in two yrs....Zimmerman will be appraching Wright's status, so that question will be harder to answer.
  10. I'd do that in a heartbeat, though I don't know Johnson's contract situation, and where would he play come late-June? This is why the NL needs the DH ](*,) ](*,) ](*,) ](*,) You better not be serious. The DH is the stupidest rule ever. No it's not. The DH gives the AL a unique look. Believe it or not...while both the AL/NL are under the banner or the MLB, the two leagues are still competing with one another for fans, etc. The DH is as AL and apple pie. DH is not a stupid rule, the DH in the NL, is the stupidest thing I've heard.
  11. Well duh, if you are reporting from St. Louis, you have to be in St. Louis, and regardless of the outcome of the game, life sucks in St. Louis. Note to St. Louis, everyone else figured out how to bread and fry ravioli, you ain't got nothin' anymore. The rest of the world knows how to cook pizza to. What is your point? Life is actually pretty nice in St. Louis right now. The weather is nice and the baseball is great. Cooking pizza, and creating pizza to perfection are absolutely not the same thing. St. Louis (and for the rest of the world, for that matter) may cook pizza, but Chicago----oh Chicago...(drool coming out of my mouth) takes their time, and create their pizza to PERFECTION. So PujolsPower, do everybody a favor and NEVER, EVER compare cooking pizza to creating pizza to perfection. That like comparing Rafael Belliard to Albert Pujols..
  13. Ken Caminitti, Doc Gooden, Daryl Strawberry and Cecil Fielder, I'm looking at you. Well, Caminiti was in the group till he died.
  14. You could be correct. Last night it looked like everybody was feeling sorry for themself, including Len and Bob. However, good teams overcome injuries. This is why many of us wanted another big bat either in the outfield or on the bench. Instead we got Jaque and bench full of utility players. Nevertheless, They need to buck up and play good smart baseball. If the cubs fall apart I will blame Dusty and not injuries. When these things happen, and they do to all teams, it is the manager's job to get the team going. Double swithcing Walker in the 6th for Neifi isn't going to get it done. Agree, CubsinNY. Somebody needs to take a tough loving apprach to these guys, and forced them to forget about Lee for the next 2 months, and play some dang baseball. The Cards COMPENSATED for losing Scott Rolen last year, and they went to the NLCS. So it CAN be done. This team needs to stop feeling sorry for themselves.
  15. Does anybody else get the feeling that the Cubs are abit demoralize after losing Lee for 2 months? I know Dusty call a team meeting to get this team refocused, but this team still seem to be very dependant on Lee, especially Ramirez. This is why the Cubs NEEDED a VOCAL LEADER. Someone who is willing to lead, and again this team is TOO quiet, when it comes to leadership.
  16. That's a Cubs fan talking. Pujols is a once in a generation type of player. If he doesn't have a catastrophic injury, by the time he is done he will be mentioned among the greatest hitters to ever play. He hasn't even reached his prime yet. I don't know if Pujols has reached his prime or not, and Lee undeniably had a better year last year, but PECOTA projects that Pujols will be worth 2.5 wins more than Lee this year and 15 more wins than Lee over the next five years. Straight up, I'd trade Lee for Pujols in a heartbeat. This is going to sound a bit of homerism, but I WOULDN'T trade Lee for Pujols. Derrek has become the foundation of the Cubs, the "heart and soul" of the team, and I value that immensely. Pujols isn't too bad defensively, but let's just this...Derrek is closer to Pujols in offensive abilities, then Pujols is to Derrek defensively. Albert is a great player, but I rather have the MORE complete player in Lee.
  17. It'd be better to have a right handed power source off of the bench. Then we would be talking about guys like....Andy Phillips, Eduardo Perez, Jeff Conine, etc, etc. But none of those "type bats" will be available till June, or July. So I think the Cubs are pretty much stuck with what they got, or bring up Sing, and hopefully a call to the majors would restart his year. Either way...I don't see the Cubs making a trade anytime soon.
  18. I think people are overreacting to what Clines/Sarge are saying. I also believe they meant that Murton needs to be 'selectively aggressive.' Look both Bellhorn and Choi BOTH had a problem with letting too many good pitches go, so they can "work the count". And because of this "passiveness" teams went after them and put them in a 0-2 hole before the blink of an eye, which forces the batter to alter his apprach. And that was the main reason why both Bellhorn and Choi struggled. There is nothing wrong with working the count, but if you get your pitch early in the count, be aggressive. I believe that is what Sarge/Cline meant. But Cubs fans---rightfully so---have become PARANOID when it comes to what is spew out of the coaches mouth. Again...I do believe Murton needs to be "selectively aggressive."
  19. How about.................................Hee Seop Choi?
  20. I know....everybody needs to CHILL the heck down. Losing the best offensive force on the team for 2 months, is NOT a good reason to be bickering towards one another, like we are White Sox fans. We're better then that.
  21. I think I'd prefer trading one of those releivers to the Yankees for Pena and a mid-level prospect. Agree. I prefer NOT to give the White Sox a serviceable relieve,r for a not-so-serviceable backup 1st baseman, when we already have somebody in the system, who can do the same thing, (Hoffpauir).
  22. Good lineup Raw. It's probably the best lineup we could reasonably hope for with baker at the helm. If only he'd think about batting Jones 8th. Does anybody else have a concern that Aram may try and do to much and struggle without Derrek Lee?
  23. Tom Emanski videos Then what's Tom Emanski doing? Going to Fred McGriff's School of Acting.
  24. And we continue to see pitchers suspended for steroids. I love how all the focus in the media continues to be on Bonds and other position players, yet pitchers are just as guilty. They focus on Bonds, because of the name appeal, just like the focused on Sosa. Do I believe both dip into the steroids...no doubt. But there have been rumblings that Eric Gagne had used steroids. And with Ryan Franklin, Juan Rincon, and there was an Indian pitcher---I believe---all suspended last yr, so I don't buy into the media is looking squarely at offensive players as abusers.
  25. :( Say what you want about him when he was the Cubs PC, but this is sad day...
