  1. They did jump into the Cubs/Stros game last night when Z was pitching in the 8th. I must admit that I was impressed with that. Only because Kruk threatening to eat Karl and Harold, if they didn't show Z's potential no-hitter. I believe Kruk call Z for his cy-young winner this yr. He want get it, but atleast somebody acknowledge Z's ability.
  2. I hope Walker is a man, or he is ONE UGlY woman..
  3. I told you SLO had a good team this year. I was accepted to Cal Poly SLO out of HS without applying. I should have gone and walked-on to the baseball team. I could have been drafted by the Cubs! I don't know do you have a concept of the term "OBP?" If you do, then no you wouldn't have been drafted by the Cubs. I did have a good eye in HS. But I played CF! And I run really fast! You never know... Then, you would be have a perfect fit for Oakland. You know the Cubs don't need "basecloggers", and you sir would have been a "baseclogger."

  5. Did anybody repeat "OBP is a good thing," is a good thing, to Dusty Baker?
  6. Is it me, or is it hot in here? Cause I'm feeling a backdraft...........
  7. So we really just spend a draft pick on a guy who openly hates the Cubs and who very well might not even play baseball? Yeah...new guy seems to fit right in with our management philosophy. look, you don't expect anyone with the Cubs to be able to use google or myspace, do you? Don't you remember the Cubs limited Carlos Zambrano's "time" on the computer. Carlos is their only access to the "Internet" for the Cubs. :)
  8. WGN = Win Guaranteed Now! No....it means "We've got Nefti." Get it straight.
  9. The bottom line is all of this is Hendry is not going to trade Jones, regardless of how he plays. Agreed. People need to stop thinking about how to trade Jacques Jones for the time being. JJ will be a Cub for at least 2 FULL years.
  10. Does anybody else feel the first rd should have a "rookie scale" similar to the NBA? I'm sure there are alot of vets, who would go along with it, as there is NO WAY any HSer or college player selected in the 1st rd, should be paid more then some solid veterans. Just no way.... KC really needs Andrew Miller (to combine with Butler/Gordon/DeJesus/Buck/Huber/Greinke to form a nice nucleus for the future. And for pricks to decide where the go, because of money, they should go to where their talented is need most. (ok, RANT OFF) Sorry.
  11. Exactly, I don't understand why people are harping on Baker tonight. This game was just about as flawless as you are going to get from Baker and the Cubs. Enjoy. People are disgusted with the amount of pitches Z throw, but let's face it...it's not really about the pitches that hurts the arm, it's the mechanics. When pitchers get tired, they tired to get lazy with their mechanics, and there arms would go to spots theys shouldn't. I'm no pitching coach, but Z look like he had solid mechanics from pitch 1, to pitch 126, thus he eliminate any necessary "stress" in his arms, by staying consistant with his mechanics. Bottomline: to those who thought Baker should screw the no-hitter and take Z out....you guys are COMPLETE wrong. Eat crow. Baseball is about superstition, and with Z having it "ON" tonight, you don't break that superstition. You allow the pitcher to go as FAR as necessary to achieve the no-hitter (unless it's extra innings). And when Z gave up the hit with 1 out in the 8, he or for that matter Z, wanted to finish the inning. Good decision by Baker, and those Baker hater's for the night (not calling anybody out specifically), just ENJOY the win, and Zambrano's performance. Stop looking for anything to nitpick about. =D> =D> Carlos, oops, I mean Ace Carlos.
  12. First: Soriano has made no secret about returning to the AL (perhaps the Yankees), so I doubt he will be interested in the Cubs, unless he gets an Albert Pujols type contract. Second: I prefer Eric Patterson at 2B.
  13. Last year, they were flat out MISERABLE against the NL East. As far as this series goes, I'm going with unadulterated enthusiasm. Go COBS. We just gotta take it one game at a time, and not look at the big picture. C'mon Cubs just keep winning series until Lee and Prior come back.... I think we still have a shot why not! The central is going to be a dog fight the whole year no one is going to run away and hide. I just hope there isn't a let down for this series. I really don't think the Cards will collapse without Pujols, they can easily move Edmonds to first and put Taguchi or whoever in center. They still have a formiddable pitching staff, something the Cubs didn't have(and still don't), to weather the storm of Pujols being out. So you are removing Albert Pujols bat (one of the game's best bat) and essentially replacing him with Taguchi. Sure, the Cards can expect the same production out of Taguchi as they got out of Pujols. The Cards lineup without Pujols, rivals that of the Cubs lineup without Lee. And no their rotation is not formiable, they're solid, but not beyond reproached, tho. Carpenter is their only "guarantee", Mulder/Marquis are both GREATLY underachievers, and Suppan/5th starter are what they are. The Cards have a solid rotation, but not one that can keep the team that can dominate while Albert is out. I don't see a collapse, but what I do see is the Cubs closing their lead by half (if not more) before Albert before Albert comes back.
  14. Dudes been hittin the ball hard right at people. He deserves a break. If there was ever an extension well worth it, then........oh boy, I hope the Cubs don't any bright ideas.
  15. As frustrating as May was, the Cubs are starting to show signs that they might have a run left. With the Cubs left for dead, this is where Dusty does his best "managing" (if you will). He preference either veterans teams, or teams that people don't give much chance to, so that he can play Captain Underdog. The Cubs have won two series in a row, with one of those series in St. Louis  . And should they take the series with Houston, I say a run is near. So, it's always fun to speculate what the Cubs could get for the veterans on this team, but right now, it's about month too early too really talk about "worrying about 2007." But let the speculation continues.....
  16. To me...KW, his wife, and the Cubs are no rushing for a "divorce" so to speak. KW likes Chicago for obviosuly and not so obvious reasons. So the thought that the Cubs would have to settle for B/C Prospects for Wood and/or Prior is ludacris. Wood/Prior are more valuable to the Cubs, then said B/C Prospects. Those "unnamed gms, scouts, etc" can go blow it out their blowhole, if they think they can get Wood/Prior on the "cheap."
  17. I know they have Quentin and Upton schedule for their future OF, but why would they trade a young, quite possibly very good OF prospect, for a pitching like Maddux, who is doing his best Glendon Rusch impersonation? We be luck to get Jeff Devanon for Maddux.
  18. Yeah but that comparison was relative to Travis Snider. When JP Riccardi is linked to a HS hitter in the first round, you know damn sure he has plus patience. Yeah, and it can be a smokescreen. You can't based your decision on what another GM might do. If the Cubs like SNider when he is available, and is the best prospect on the board, then they should take him, if they like Rowell, take him. Don't take Snider, because another GM potentially likes him.
  19. He did take a gamble on Clanton...of course, that really didn't work out too well. And Christiensen. My guess is Hendry will pass on Drabeck.
  20. But dude, he was being aggressive. Can't fault kid for being aggressive. at Baker and Cline for setting back Murton's development because they wanted him to be "overly aggressive." Murton needs to develop "selective hearing" and go back to what he has done well. Go back and listen to what the coaches taught you at GTech, cause they are real coaches. It could just be a slump. Even patient hitters have them. He'll find his plate discipline again. With Clines/Baker coaching him? Are you SERIOUS?
  21. First: I know sweeping the Cards in St. Lou would have given the Cubs like a serious momentum boost, but taking the series, I believe does the same thing....hopefully. The Cards offense, is going to be pretty much crappy without Pujols, and they know. Today they found a BP pitcher they liked in Maddux. But I am going to say...the Cards are going to have a similar June to the Cubs May. May not be as bad, but I could easily see the Cubs making up 6 games in June. If the Cubs want it. Second: Carlos Marmol, what can be said about the kid. He reminds me of Frankie Rodriguez. He has the same kind of spunk, fearless and devastating stuff. I think he will be with the Cubs, but a stint in AAA, until they moved either Novoa or Williamson, is prolly what's going to happen. But the Cubs need to have Marmlo focusing on either starting or relieving. Don't pull the crap they did on Zambrano earlier in his career, with Marmol. You want Marmol start, start him. You want to relieve, relieve. Don't bounce him around. Third: I don't blame Murton, per se, he is a nice enough kid, and he is going ot "respect his elders", but dang, Murton definately needs to developed "selective hearing" and go back to his style of hitting that made him succesful. It's obviously Baker/Cline has NO CLUE about how to teach hitting, so they are making up crap as they go along.
  22. But dude, he was being aggressive. Can't fault kid for being aggressive. at Baker and Cline for setting back Murton's development because they wanted him to be "overly aggressive." 23. Considering Marmol has more options then Aardsma at this point, I suspect Marmol will be th eone to go down when Williamson come back. BUT, if Marmol can pitch well during this stint, it wouldn't surprise me if the Cubs move Williamson to a team that needs help in the bullpen, ahemGiantsahem.
  24. The problem with that theory is that everybody now knows the Cards are desparate for offensive help with Edmonds/Pujols out for a period time. Just like everybody knew the Cubs were deaparate when Lee was out. So, my guess any significant offensive player the Cards might be interested in, either Wainwright or Reyes will be the first name out mouth by the other team.
