  1. How is Donnie dominating competition that is *beneath* him? He's - at age 21 - pitching in the FSL with about 1 year experience at a community college. Sure, Gallagher was more dominant than Veal in BB/K (but not at, say, ERA), but Veal has been more dominant after his promtion than Gallagher has been after his promotion. For those comparing Gallagher and Veal in terms of where they were drafted - don't forget Gallagher was expected to be taken as high as the 3rd round but fell. (Because of signability concerns? UK or someone else can correct me on that one.) Joe_Cub, Pawelek reported to Mesa this spring out of shape and struggled in the spring. That's why he was sent to Boise and not Peoria. I hope he learned his lesson.
  2. Thanks, I updated. If anyone hears who's starting for Daytona in game 2, please let me know.
  3. Exactly why I voted for Veal. Sean's control was a major plus over Veal's. Veal's ability to miss bats and give up few hits was his major plus over Gallagher. Once they were promoted, Veal kept his advantage in missing bats and giving up fewer hits, but Sean's control deteriorated.
  4. It's a guess on my part, since IowaCubs.com insists Jae-Kuk Ryu will be starting.
  5. Standings: PCL American North Nashville 73-60 .549 - Iowa 69-64 .519 4.0 --- 11 games remaining SL North Huntsville 34-25 .576 - Tennessee 34-26 .567 0.5 Chatanooga* 32-28 .533 2.5 West Tenn 29-31 .483 5.5 --- 10 games remaining FSL East St. Lucie* 33-25 .569 - Daytona 33-26 .559 0.5 --- 11 games remaining (including 3 in the next 2 days against St. Lucie) Palm Beach 31-26 .544 1.5 Peoria already clinched a playoff spot by winning the MWL North in the first half. NWL East Boise 36-28 .563 - --- 12 games remaining (including 6 against Tri-City) Tri-City 33-31 .536 3.0 *First-half division winner.
  6. At AAA: 33.2 IP vs. lefties: .279 BAA 90 IP vs. righties: .285 BAA
  7. Polls close at midnight CT tonight.
  8. Poor Donnie pitches the day after the vote. Everyone go vote for the 2006 NSBB Minor League Player of the Year here (Premium). Voting closes at 12 midnight CT and Sean Gallagher right now has a 2 vote lead.
  9. Ryan Harvery didn't leave yesterday's game.
  10. Probable Starters: Iowa: RHP Wilton Chavez (2-2, 4.98 ERA) vs. RHP Kip Bouknight (1-0, 3.86 ERA) WT: RHP Sean Gallagher (7-3, 2.44 ERA; overall: 11-3, 2.37 ERA) Daytona (game 1): RHP Ryan Bicondoa (1-2, 2.61 ERA) vs. RHP Blake Eager (3-3, 4.09 ERA) Daytona (game 2): ?? Peoria: RHP Todd Blackford (9-8, 5.54 ERA) vs. RHP Trey Hearne (11-3, 2.27 ERA) Boise: RHP Jake Renshaw (0-1, 8.64 ERA; 0-2, 6.44 ERA) Mesa: RHP Rafael Dolis (0-2, 8.22 ERA) Chavez (Iowa & Nashville): 76 IP, 61 K/36 BB Gallagher (West Tenn & Daytona): 152 IP, 154/71 Bicondoa: 31 IP, 35/9 Blackford: 130 IP, 67/56 Renshaw: 29.1 IP, 20/10 Dolis: 23 IP, 29/15
  11. He could be a max-effort guy, but given his IP so far this season, I think he needs to lengthen out. Boise wins it 8-7 in 9. Elvin Puello singled and scored on an E-5 (throwing error) on a grounder off the bat of Steve Clevenger.
  12. Boise and Spokane are tied at 7 in the top of the 9th.
  13. Canzler grounds out 5-3 to strand Colvin at third. Boise leads it 7-6 going to the bottom of the 6th. Tyler Colvin's 6 triples leads the NWL, Russ Canzler's 14 HRs leads the NWL.
  14. Tyler Colvin triples to RF in the 6th - Spokane RF Wally Backman, Jr. crashed into the wall at an awkward angle going for the ball and hurts his leg. He ends up walking off the field with a big limp, but on his own power. Colvin is 3 for 4 on the night.
  15. West Tenn loses 6-5. They're now 4.5 out of first place.
  16. Meh, Francisco lets the inherited runner score (and lets another two in himself). Jose Ceda's final line: 4+ IP, 4 ER, 3 H, 1 BB, 1 HBP, 4 K, 1 HR. Ceda was definitely tiring at the end of the 4th inning and into the 5th inning. He was leaving pitches up, etc. The 4 inning outing is tied for his longest outing of the season. Boise is clinging to a 7-6 lead after 5.
  17. Woo, Iowa's playoff hopes are still alive! In Spokane, Ceda's night is over. He gives up a leadoff single and is lifted. Alfredo Francisco is coming in to the game. His line as of now is: 4+ IP, 3 ER, 3 H, 1 HBP, 1 BB, 4 K. Russ Canzler is 1 HR shy of tying the all-time Boise HR record (15 by Todd Greene in 1993). Boise leads it 7-3 in the bottom of the 5th.
  18. That may be, but I still get to be part of the pre-game ceremonies AND see the game for just $7! We got the Dodger playoff games for free.
  19. Clarinets > trombones. Them's fightin' woids! Oh, and my HS performed two straight years at Dodger playoff games and at the 1996 Alamo Bowl and none of those 3 times were we on TV. Stupid ESPN. :(
  20. 1.009 OPS for Felix in August. Ceda has a rough 4th inning, giving up a HBP (he wouldn't be a Boise pitcher if he didn't hit someone), a walk and a 3-run HR before getting out of the inning. :( 4 IP, 3 ER, 2 H, 1 BB, 1 HBP, 4 K. Boise is up 7-3.
  21. Yeah, I asked the Ceda question. Was disappointed.
  22. In Boise's top of the 4th inning: With the bases loaded, Matt Camp hit an RBI single. With the bases loaded, Tyler Colvin with an RBI single off the wall (the base runners had to hold because they weren't sure if it would be caught or not). With the bases loaded, Russ Canzler hit an RBI sac fly. Boise leads it 7-0 going to the bottom of the 4th. Tyler Colvin: 2 for 3, 2 singles. Russ Canzler: 1 for 1, HR, BB, 3 RBI.
