  1. I'm not sure about that - they've already laid out the anti-Aramis stuff (hustle, etc.) to bust out if the Cubs can't re-sign Ramirez. Aramis does sound like he wants to return, but who knows what happens once a player gets on the FA market.
  2. Agreed. Too bad Hendry will re-sign him instead. :(
  3. He came to camp out of shape. Alberto Garcia with a 2-run HR and Peoria leads it 2-0 in the middle of the 4th. Scott Taylor: 3 IP, 0 R, 1 H, 1 K, 27 pitches (22 strikes).
  4. I personally want the Cubs to practice some timely winning the World Series.
  5. Some transactions: With OF DJ Lewis (ankle) and IF Josh Lansford (elbow) injured and out day-to-day, Boise added IF/OF Cody Gilbert (who started on Saturday for Boise) to the team. The Peoria Chiefs placed IFs Ryan Lilly (shoulder) and Ryne Malone (sprained knee, might miss remainder of season) on the 7-day DL. To replace the two, the Chiefs have added speedy IF Valerio Heredia from Mesa and IF/OF Jake Whiteside, who was signed from the St. Joe (Mo.) Blacksnakes of the Central League.
  6. Standings: PCL American North Nashville 73-62 .541 - Iowa 70-65 .519 3.0 --- 9 games remaining SL North Huntsville 36-25 .590 - Chattanooga* 34-28 .548 2.5 Tennessee 34-28 .548 2.5 West Tenn 29-33 .468 7.5 --- 8 games remaining If Chattanooga wins the SL North again, the Diamond Jaxx will make the playoffs. FSL East Daytona 35-27 .565 - --- 8 gams remaining St. Lucie* 34-27 .557 0.5 Palm Beach 31-26 .544 1.5 Peoria already clinched a playoff spot by winning the MWL North in the first half. NWL East Boise 37-29 .561 - --- 10 games remaining (including 6 against Tri-City) Tri-City 34-32 .515 3.0 *First-half division winner.
  7. Probable Starters: Iowa: LHP Sean Marshall (rehab; 0-2, 4.91 ERA) West Tenn: LHP Issac Pavlik (1-1, 3.41 ERA) Peoria (game 1): RHP Scott Taylor: (8-8, 3.35 ERA) @ LHP Tyler Norrick (1-2, 3.74 ERA) Peoria (game 2): RHP Mitch Atkins (12-3, 2.36 ERA) @ LHP Adam Daniels (7-11, 3.21 ERA) Boise: LHP Mark Pawelek (2-5, 2.56 ERA) @ RHP Eric Butler (3-4, 3.80 ERA) Mesa: LHP Taylor Paker (1-2, 2.22 ERA) Marshall: 14.2 IP, 14 K/11 BB Pavlik: 29 IP, 24/10 Taylor: 131.2 IP, 65/23 Atkins: 125.2 IP, 117/49 Pawelek: 45.2 IP, 38/18 Parker: 48.2 IP, 32/11
  8. His pic with the I-Cubs is much cooler: http://img.photobucket.com/albums/v177/Navinda/walrond.gif
  9. Iowa wins 3-2. West Tenn loses 2-1. :( Elvin Puello doubles in Steve Clevenger who had doubled and Boise jumps ahead 1-0. Mario Mercedes follows with an RBI bloop single (aided by the OF struggling to find it due to the lights) to score Puello. Boise now up 2-0 in the middle of the 4th. Mesa is down 5-0. Julio Castillo started and gave up the 5 runs in 2 IP (only 2 were earned). Greibal Cuvas-Novas is in now in relief.
  10. Daytona beats St. Lucie 2-1 and goes ahead of the Mets for first place. :)
  11. Iowa up 3-2 in the top of the 9th. Jerome William was solid: 7 IP, 2 ER, 5 H, 5 K/1 BB. Felix Pie: 1/3, run, double, BB EPatt 0/3, run, BB, K Scott Moore with his 22nd HR in the 4th inning, but the Jaxx are losing 2-1. Chris Shaver: 6 IP, 2 ER, 6 H, 3 K/3 BB.
  12. Thanks for summing up Donnie's night. I went to the local Savon/Osco/CVS Pharmacy for what was a 5-minute trip while Daytona was batting...and came back 4 innings later. Daytona is now up 2-1 after 7. The 9 Ks ties Donnie's season-high at Daytona.
  13. Daytona strands 2 in the bottom of the third. Daytona is down 1-0 in the middle of the 4th. 4 IP, 1 ER, 2 H, 3 BB, 8 K*, 1 WP, 1 HR, 85 pitches. *Donnie's Daytona-high is 9 Ks, his season-high is 10 in Peoria (which is a tie for his pro career-high). He normally is on a pitch limit around 90-100 pitches.
  14. St. Lucie up on Daytona 1-0 in the middle of the 3rd. Veal gives up a 1-out solo HR and a 2-out walk in the top of the 3rd inning. :( Veal: 3 IP, 1 ER, 2 H, 2 BB, 6 K, 1 HR
  15. Daytona is scoreless in the bottom of the 2nd. Veal: 2 IP, 0 R, 1 H, 1 BB, 5 K. He struck out the side in the 2nd inning.
  16. Des Moines is close enough.
  17. I would have preferred Drabek or Snyder, but I have faith in Wilken given his track record.
  18. The Hawaii Winter Baseball is starting up again this year, opening day will be October 1st. This year, unlike in previous years, they will only have players from MLB and Japan (previously they had other Asian countries involved). The official rosters will be announced on Sept. 1 and 21 teams in the MLB will be sending representatives. The league will be mostly consisting of A and AA players. The Cubs will have one rep...my guess: it will be Ryan Harvey.
  19. That's been shown as wrong (not saying you're the one saying that the Colvin pick was in conjunction with Samardizja). Colvin got less-than-slot money, but not by much ($1.475 million). Samardzija received $250,000, but won't receive anywhere near the reported $7+ million unless he stays in baseball for a few years. The second and third biggest bonuses the Cubs gave were for Chris Huseby ($1.3 million) in the 11th round and Drew Rundle ($500,000) in the 14th round.
  20. They probably stand out more for what they did with their talent after they won the Series. I took the question to mean not necessarily having the highest payroll (tough to do) but just throw out the big bucks to the big name FAs and bump payroll significantly (a la 19 to 5).
  21. He's been awful at AA as a reliever and was nearly demoted to A+ Daytona this season. The only reason he wasn't demoted was due to an injury to another reliever (Rocky Cherry). It's a shame he lost all that velo on his FB. His not-so-good 2006 stats. I would have preferred seeing Jerome too, but I honestly don't care that much if the Cubs lose Les Walrond this offseason.
  22. The 1997 Marlins did it. It's not the best way to build a perrenial winner (better to build up with the farm), but I wouldn't be complaining about how the Cubs won a World Series if they actually did win it.
  23. I agree. The number of drops seem a bit high. The running game hasn't done anything - but they said they haven't been working on it (which seems like a bad idea) so Rex can get reps.
